RP Chapter 4
His actions tonight hadn’t been totally random. He had been fighting the feelings inside of him about Kacey for years. First they were too far apart in age, then when he and Shawn came back and she was old enough, she was deep in her studies in college, they had been recruited by Davis and Cunningham.
And now, they were co-workers and Shawn was even more protective. He rushed up the steps and out of the dark decorated glass building. He jumped on his Harley and rushed home. He was glad it was only a few minutes away.
He pulled into the parking garage of the building, cutting the engine, he flew to the elevator. He was going to piss Shawn and Davis off, but he had to get Kacey to get her brilliant mind on this. She’d have it figured out before Herz would.
He barely waited for the steel doors of the elevator to open to his fourth floor when he squeezed between the opening, his booted feet fell silent on the burgundy carpet that matched the walls. His gaze darted around the barely lit up brown room. Not his choice, of course, the place was close to the Agency. And relatively cheap.
But it was sure as hell lonely. He wanted Kacey to fill that void he had in his life. Sure, he had his brothers, well at least Davis, but it wasn’t enough. He wanted what he and Kacey had shared.
He let out a huff as he snatched up the two floppy discs. Yeah no one really used them anymore, but for some reason Donovan had. The one he wanted to give to Kacey was blue while the one he would give to Herz was red. He took off to head back to Kacey.
He needed to stop worrying about Kacey and keep his baby brother in mind. Save him first, find him, then worry about fixing things with Kacey.
~
Kacey was busy working on her other cases, she was pouring over a folder in front of her when it was snapped shut suddenly. She let out a gasp and spun as the over kill of aftershave assaulted her.
She looked up into the same dark brown eyes of Agent Herz. “What do you want?” she demanded.
“Just waiting on your lover boy, just like you, he has you upset though, doesn’t he?”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” She narrowed her eyes at the man that made her stomach heave.
“Your brother would be awfully mad if he found out, so you best work on me with this.” He ran a finger along her jaw gently.
“You really think I’m scared that Shawn would find out what we did? I haven’t been afraid of Shawn since I could walk, you’re wasting your breath.”
“Apparently wasting my breath on getting that dinner as well.”
“Yeah, you are.” The deep voice came from behind them.
Herz spun quickly, knocking Kacey off the stool.
Kyle rushed over helping her up slowly, putting himself between her and Herz, he pulled something from his pocket and handed it to Herz. “Now, if you don’t mind being on your way, so I can have some time with my girl.”
Kacey gripped Kyle’s arm tightly, she wasn’t his and everyone knew it. She screwed up enough already by sleeping with him. When Herz stepped closer she didn’t even think about it and stepped closer to Kyle.
Kyle puffed out his chest more, clenching his hands into fists, making his biceps bulge even more beneath his already tight t-shirt. But it made Herz take off.
As soon as he went out the swinging door Kacey let go of Kyle and moved away. But he turned and hauled her up against him. “You okay, babe?”
She flattened her hands against his chest. “Fine, Kyle, you gave him what he needed, you can go now.”
“I’m not leaving until you do, Davis and Shawn made a mistake with choosing him, and I don’t like it.”
“Not really your place to say, now go, Kyle.”
“I think it is my place to say, Kace, I came over earlier but not for what happened between us.”
“Trust me, your apology was sufficient enough, now go.”
“Kace-”
“I said leave,” she nudged him away but not very far. She turned to go back to her stool. “It won’t happen again either.”
Kyle let out a huff. “Kace, I don’t regret it, can you do me a favor, though?”
“I think I’ve done enough for you.”
Kyle pulled her head up gently by her chin. “Honey, please?”
“Don’t you honey me.” She scowled at him.
“Fine, talk to me when you’re not mad at me anymore, then again I don’t even know why, we’re adults.”
She snatched her chin from his gentle grasp and buried her pert nose back into the folder.
~
Kyle let out a groan and began to leave the lower lab.
She closed her eyes as she listened to the swoosh of the swinging door slowly stop. She felt the tears prick her eyes, but she shoved them away. If she let Herz take her to dinner maybe that would show Kyle others did want her also, but who’s to say he actually wanted her.
She yanked out the bun and ran her fingers through her hair she brought this all on herself, she knew how Kyle was, never with the same woman twice.
She snapped her eyes open and began to scan the page in front of her, even though it was unnecessary, until her vision blurred, and she dosed off, her face planted against the paper and desk.
~~~
Kyle burst into his brother’s office at the Agency. “What the hell is wrong with you?” his gaze landed on Davis and Shawn. “The both of you actually.”
“What’s got your boxers in a bunch?” Shawn demanded, laying a finger over his strong, broad chin.
“Seth Herz, I don’t trust him, there’s something about him.”
“Are you jealous of how close he’ll be working with Kacey? She can’t fawn over you the rest of her life, Kyle, she deserves someone.”
“But not Herz,” Kyle gritted out, thinking about Kacey doing what they had done ate at him. He didn’t like it. “Why can’t she and I be together?” Kyle demanded.
“Kyle, I know how you are.” Shawn drawled out.
“And what’s that supposed to mean?” he glared at the two men in front of him.
“One, you won’t rest until we find Donovan, none of us will, and two you’re never with the same woman twice.”
“Like it’s been that many, what if the reason I’m not happy with them is because none of them are her?”
“So, you’re telling me you can keep her happy and keep your cool, and keep looking for Donovan?”
“If I said yes can I try to be with her?”
“No.” Shawn answered shortly.
“Why?”
“Prove yourself, Kyle, then we will see.”
“Fine but keep Herz away from her as much as possible.” He stormed out of the office, slamming the wooden door behind him. He needed to go home and get some sleep, he’d try to talk to Kacey in the morning.
