Chapter 1 Chapter 1

Ethan's POV

"He has no choice but to do what I say. He is leaving for that academy whether he approves or not."

My father's angry voice rang in his home office, making me gulp, I was sweating profusely, hoping not to be caught eavesdropping in the conversation.

"Theo, you know that this school is only for Alphas, Ethan can't survive there, he would be discovered the next day."

"That is the reason for the successful suppressant experiment, isn't it?"

My dad cold voice resounded in the room and even from here, I can imagine the shocked look on my mother's pretty face.

"I can't believe you are trying to make our son a lab rat just for your selfish interests. Theo, how far do you intend to go?" My mum's voice was muffled, I knew instantly that she was trying to hold back her tears. I clutched my hands tightly.

Ever since I was born, I had always been a disappointment to my father. He’s strict, but loves his wife so much. Their relationship turned a bit sour when I came in eight years after their marriage, as an Omega child.

"This is for the best Zoe, I'm sure that's what he wants too...."

"He's going to be executed once found out. Isn't that a major concern for you?"

"Not when he is from a family of recessive Alphas. Besides, the drug would do its job."

A sharp sound suddenly came from inside, and before I could try to look into the tiny gap in the doorway, the door was pushed open. To my shock, my dad stood with a stern face, staring at me with anger.

"What sort of child eavesdrops on their parents' conversation?"

I was beyond embarrassed, but I tried to shake it off. He knew I was at the door even before I managed to open the little crack, not bad from an Alpha male. Sometimes I wonder what it would feel like to be an Alpha, just like my older sister and brother.

"I wasn't planning to, I wanted to discuss something with you. I couldn't bear to interrupt your conversation." I managed to say this words out, looking anywhere but my mum's face. She must be disappointed.

"Oh, Ethan honey, why don't you wait outside for us. I will conclude my conversation with your dad."

I nodded and walked off hurriedly. After all, I just didn't want to sit there and watch them decide my fate. Ravenholt Academy huh? Right from high school till my graduation, top Alphas in my school always bragged about the School. How powerful it is and the connection it came with. It's not like there was any dominant Alpha in my high school, so they all saw it as a privilege to interact and make connections with the upper society. Never in my life did I think I'd be going there.

In the evening, my dad came into my room with his usual stern face. He threw a file towards me and watched as I opened it. The contents revealed the lab results and a stronger suppressant which would help hide my scent, that even a high ranking top Alpha wouldn't detect.

"Tomorrow would be your resumption date for the academy, remember what you've discussed. Don't try to disappoint me, else you'd be kicked out from this family. After all, you never belonged here in the first place."

His words hit me like a sting, of course he always treated me like I wasn't his child. To him, I was an imposter, a failure of his gene.

"Why don't you make your son go if this is so important to you. Why make me..."

"You think I'd even look your way twice if he wasn't banned from the Academy? How dare you speak to me that way, you want your punishment so badly now?"

His voice thundered dangerously. I clutched my fists tightly in anger, but I couldn't refute. I had no other choice, he threatened to harm my mother if I refused.

The next morning, my luggages were already packed. My dad was impatiently waiting at the driveway while my mum hugged me goodbye. My sister couldn't even be bothered to raise her head. That's how it has always been. Only my mum and brother treated me like a human in the whole family and that was enough for me.

After hours of driving, we finally left Scottish Highlands and twenty more minutes we were in Inverness.

The car pulled into the huge iron gate, on a gold inscription, the name of the school was boldly inscribed in it. We were directed to park in a small car park outside the Academy. I learnt later, that parents/guardians of the Alphas aren't allowed into the school. A tough looking armed guard walked up to us and knocked twice on the door, my dad signalled at him to give him a moment.
