Chapter 6

"You trying to scald me to death?!" Emily struck first, screaming and jumping up. "Mr. Moore, she definitely did it on purpose!"

Matthew looked at Elizabeth's swollen red hand, almost rushing over to check her injury, but forcibly stopped himself.

He couldn't go soft. She brought this on herself.

He slammed the table and shouted harshly, "Elizabeth, you can't even handle such a small task. What good are you? Get back to the servants' quarters and get out of my sight!"

Elizabeth was trembling all over from the pain, but still stubbornly raised her head to look at him. "I'm not leaving... I want to stay..."

With a loud crash, Matthew flipped the dining table in front of him, sending food flying everywhere.

"The sight of you makes me sick!" Matthew scooped up Emily and strode upstairs.

Emily gasped, wrapping her arms around Matthew's neck, turning back to flash Elizabeth a smug smile.

"Clean this mess up!" Matthew's command came from the stairs.

Elizabeth stood frozen, watching their intimate figures, her heart aching so badly she could barely breathe.

She slowly crouched down, her vision blurring.

Soon, a woman's moans and a man's low voice came from the room, stabbing at Elizabeth's ears.

She covered her ears hard, but those sounds kept drilling into her head.

That was the man she loved, now making love with another woman...

"Matthew... gentle..." Emily's high-pitched voice came through, completely crushing Elizabeth.

"No... no..." Elizabeth shook her head, scrambling up from the floor and stumbling out of the villa, as if fleeing from something terrible.

A downpour started outside, drenching her instantly, but she didn't feel cold. She just kept running desperately, trying to escape that place.

That was Matthew, who would risk his life for her. How could he touch another woman?

Elizabeth ran barefoot through the muddy water, blood mixing with rainwater.

Until she couldn't run anymore, her vision went dark, and she collapsed softly.

In the second-floor bedroom, Matthew sat on the sofa, his face showing no desire, his eyes dark.

"Scream! Keep screaming! Who told you to stop!"

Emily trembled in fear, wrapped in a blanket and huddled in the corner of the bed, her voice hoarse from shouting.

"Mr. Moore... I... I really can't anymore..."

"Useless!" Matthew irritably loosened his collar, walked to the window and lit a cigarette, but his gaze drifted downstairs.

In the rain, that thin figure swayed and fell into the mud.

The cigarette instantly burned his fingertip. Matthew felt a sharp pain in his heart.

"Elizabeth!" Matthew growled, turned and rushed out of the room.

In the rainy night, Matthew knelt in the muddy water and pulled Elizabeth into his arms.

"Elizabeth! Wake up!" The person in his arms was ice-cold, with only weak breathing.

Matthew looked at her pale face, his eyes reddening.

"Elizabeth, you were born to torture me!"

Matthew cursed through gritted teeth, but his movements were gentle as he carried her back to the villa in big strides.

The bathroom was full of steam. Matthew personally took a towel and carefully wiped the mud off her body.

Warm water washed over her scarred body.

Matthew saw the bruises on her knees and the torn flesh on her feet, his hand holding the towel trembling.

For that bastard Daniel, she ruined herself like this?

"Elizabeth, you have no heart." Matthew's eyes were red. "I really want to strangle you and end it all."

He spoke harsh words, but his hands applying medicine to her wounds were very careful, afraid of hurting her.

After changing her into clean pajamas, drying her hair, and tucking her in, Matthew sat by the bed, his gaze scanning every inch of her features.

Only when she was asleep would the coldness in his eyes fade a little.

"Letting you go, I can't bear it." His fingers gently caressed her cheek. "Keeping you by my side, I'm afraid I can't control myself and might kill you then kill myself."

"Elizabeth, what am I supposed to do with you?"

He sat by the bed all night.

As dawn approached, Matthew finally got up and left.

When Elizabeth woke up, her head hurt.

She opened her eyes groggily and found herself lying in a guest room bed.

She was wearing silk pajamas, her wounds had been redressed, and there was a faint smell of medicine in the air.

Was it Matthew? Elizabeth struggled to sit up.

"Now that you're awake, get up and work! Who said you could sleep in!"

The housekeeper Olivia Smith's sharp voice shattered her thoughts. Elizabeth changed back into her maid's uniform and knelt on the floor scrubbing.

Footsteps came from the stairs. Matthew, wearing a suit and with his arm around Emily, came down from upstairs.

Seeing Elizabeth kneeling on the floor, he smirked coldly.

"Looks like you're well-suited to being a maid. Pretty clean scrubbing."

Elizabeth bit her lip and kept her head down, not daring to look at Matthew, afraid she would cry.

"Since you like serving people so much, come shopping with us. Emily needs someone to carry her bags."

Matthew finished speaking and walked out with Emily, giving Elizabeth no chance to refuse.

Elizabeth could only endure the pain in her feet and limp along behind them.

Crown Heights Mall, jewelry counter. Emily wandered around the counter, pointing at this and that, saying she wanted everything.

"Mr. Moore, this necklace is so beautiful, I want it."

"Buy it." Matthew didn't even lift an eyelid, buying Emily whatever she wanted, but his gaze kept glancing at Elizabeth behind them.

Elizabeth stood to the side, carrying bags of all sizes.

Watching the man who once belonged only to her now treating another woman so well, Elizabeth felt a stabbing pain in her heart.

Just then, a gentle voice rang out, making Elizabeth's whole body go cold.

"Elizabeth?"

Daniel stood not far away, looking shocked, wearing a white custom-tailored suit that made him look quite distinguished.

He quickly walked over, his gaze falling on her maid's uniform.

"Elizabeth, why are you dressed like this? Matthew has you working as a maid?"

Daniel looked pained, reaching out to grab Elizabeth's hand.

"Come with me! I won't let him treat you like trash!"

Matthew stood not far away, watching Daniel's hand reaching for Elizabeth, his face darkening, his hands clenched tightly at his sides.
