Chapter 6
I turned my face to the window, crushing down the Mate pull, refusing to look at him.
Three hours later, an enforcer called me forward, seating me at a computer.
“Miss Moss, some truths… you need to see yourself.”
He pressed play.
Video interviews with my friends and colleagues filled the screen.
“Yes, Zora bonded.”
“After the accident, she denied it, never spoke of her mate or pup again.”
“Of course we knew, but we’re just coworkers. If she won’t talk, we can’t pry.”
“She posted about her bond on Facebook—we all saw it.”
“She even invited us to the pup’s full-moon feast. I only missed it because of a work trip.”
“This morning? Yes, I saw her. Later in the street she was with him, leaning on his shoulder, laughing like—”
“Didn’t look like a fight this morning at all.”
“These kids… they make a scene and treat us bystanders like fools.”
With every new “fact,” my heart just… stopped.
How? Why does everyone swear I bonded with Michael?
In both of my lives, I only met him after my wolf soul lost balance and I collapsed the first time.
If not for my previous life, I wouldn’t even know his name.
How could I have bonded him—how could there be a pup?
So, in this life, am I supposed to accept it again—serve them until I die?
Beside me, my mother wiped her tears and pulled my empty body into her arms.
“Zora, don’t be afraid. I’m here. Mommy’s here.”
“No matter what it costs, I’ll cure your amnesia.”
Tears slid down my face. I shoved her away, hard.
I smashed a cup, pressed a shard to my throat.
“Get out!”
“I’d rather live at the Enforcement Bureau than go home with you!”
“You just want my money—you want to trap me in this bond until I die!”
An enforcer frowned, hands raised in a calming gesture.
“Easy. This is only a preliminary check.”
“If you don’t want reconciliation, we won’t force it. We’ll keep investigating—trust us.”
Outside the circle, Michael’s lips curled. He stroked the faint glow of the bond mark on his neck, then dragged a finger across his throat—a slicing gesture.
If I die, he gets everything.
No. I will not let him win.
I squeezed my eyes shut and dropped the shard.
A female enforcer led me to a private room and introduced a psyche Healer.
“Don’t worry. We’ll approach this from your mind and your wolf soul.”
The Healer was gentle. She helped me breathe, then asked, careful, steady:
“When did you and Michael first resonate wolf-to-wolf?”
“Why do you resist this bond?”
“Is your relationship with your mother good?”
“Why do you believe your mate and your mother want your money instead of for your good sake?”
Following her questions, my life unspooled like a film.
