Chapter 11 Breaking Off the Engagement

"Don’t call me that," Vincent’s voice was ice-cold, and then he pointed at the gift box in her arms. "Leave the bag. And the things I just gave you. Leave all of it."

Samantha was utterly dumbfounded. "Vincent! Why!"

"Why?" Vincent sneered. "Since you feel so wronged, don’t accept anything from the Shaw family from now on."

Samantha felt as if she’d been struck by lightning.

Michael finally spoke up as well. "Sam. Let’s leave today’s matter at that. You all should go back first."

Sam’s expression was hideous, but with the evidence right before their eyes, there was no way to argue. He could only grit his teeth and lead his family away.

Before leaving, Samantha still shot a stealthy glare at Olivia, her eyes wishing they could swallow her alive.

Only when the front door closed did the living room finally return to silence.

Vincent sat on the sofa, not speaking for a long time. After a while, he let out a bitter laugh.

"I truly didn’t expect that all these years, I’ve been played for a fool by her."

Olivia sat down beside him and said softly, "Vincent. I also wished it was a misunderstanding. But if it’s a misunderstanding once, a misunderstanding twice, is it still a misunderstanding the third time?"

Vincent fell silent. Sylvia also sighed softly, her expression complicated; after all, that was her own brother’s family.

Looking at her mother, Olivia didn’t push her but simply said gently, "Mom. Be more careful in the future. I’m not asking you to cut ties with them. Just don’t trust them unreservedly anymore."

Sylvia was silent for a long time before she finally nodded. "Alright. Mom understands."

Meanwhile, Olivia gazed in the direction of the door, her eyes turning cold bit by bit.

Today was merely the beginning. The debts the White family owed the Shaw family—she would collect every single one of them, piece by piece.

Early the next morning, Olivia woke up extra early. Today was an auspicious day, perfect for calling off an engagement.

Before she even reached the living room, she heard her parents' and brother's voices.

Sylvia's voice carried worry: "Michael, don't you think Liv has changed too much lately? Yesterday she said something about everyone around her changing... Do you think she might be sick?"

Michael sounded firm: "What sickness? Our daughter is not sick! Liv has just grown up and has her own ideas now. All we can do is support her. Maybe with the wedding approaching, she's nervous. When you have time, take her shopping to help her relax."

After a brief silence, Vincent's voice came through, tinged with displeasure.

"I really can't stand the thought of Liv getting married, and I definitely don't want to agree to this marriage! That John guy—I can't see a single good thing about him! If it weren't for Liv liking him, I wouldn't even look at him."

In the living room, sighs came one after another.

Until Olivia appeared.

"Vincent, you don't need to worry about me anymore. I'm going to call off the engagement with John today."

All three people in the living room froze.

Sylvia was the first to react, asking excitedly: "Liv, so what you said last time was true?"

Olivia nodded, her tone firm:

"Yes, I was blind before. Now I feel nothing for him. Calling off the engagement will be better for both sides."

Michael's face turned serious.

After a moment, he still showed a relieved smile.

"Liv, to be honest, we've never been happy about this marriage. Last time I was afraid you were just speaking in anger, but this time I understand what you mean. Let's go call off the engagement right now."

The Shaw family soon arrived at the Collins family home.

"Sir, Madam, the Shaws are here."

After the butler's announcement, Andrew Collins and Julie exchanged glances, both puzzled.

"What's the Shaw family doing here at this time? The wedding isn't for another year, and they didn't give us any notice today."

"Why else? It must be about what their daughter did yesterday! That racing competition, betting on a naked run! Your son's face was completely humiliated! How can there be such a woman!"

"So are they here to apologize today?"

"What else could it be?!"

"Well, we can't forgive them easily. If it weren't for their daughter throwing herself at him, I wouldn't want my son to marry her anyway!"

The two made up their minds and deliberately took their time before letting them in.

Andrew sat on the sofa, looking at the news on his phone, not even lifting his eyelids, saying slowly:

"You're here. Have a seat."

Julie sat beside him, sipping tea and reading a magazine, not even lifting her eyelids.

"You came to apologize and didn't even bring a gift? How exactly were you raised? The Collins family isn't a place where nobodies can come and go as they please. If you ever marry into this family, someone will need to teach you basic etiquette."

Olivia had seen this kind of attitude countless times before.

In the past, she had managed to endure it all; when the love-brain took over, she truly didn't act like a human.

But now, she saw clearly what kind of trash John was, and she no longer had any filter for him!

Olivia let out a cold laugh, walked up to the Collins couple, and threw their phone and magazine straight into the trash can:

"I thought there was no one left in the Collins family, since there isn't even a proper reception. If you two are truly so poor, I don't mind you coming to my Shaw family to beg for food."

Julie stood up in a rage and cursed at Olivia, "What do you mean there's no one left? A woman like you, without a single shred of upbringing, can forget about ever entering the doors of my Collins family in this lifetime!"

Did they still think she was that same love-brain who would rather die than live without John?

Olivia was so amused she laughed and clapped twice for Julie.

"Then I truly must thank you for your kind words. I really don't care for a piece of junk like the Collins family."

"If you two are free today, let's call off the engagement quickly and cleanly."

The Collins couple hadn't recovered from the shock of their things being thrown away when they were stunned speechless by this statement.

When he came to his senses, Andrew was both angry and annoyed: "Olivia! What do you mean by that? Weren't you the one who begged to get engaged to our John? Now you're backing out just like that? Is this how your parents raised their daughter?"

Olivia's lips curled with mockery: "I did say I liked John back then, but the ones who chased my dad for miles asking for the engagement—that was you, wasn't it? The ones whose faces lit up with joy when you got that first contract from my family—that was also you, wasn't it? Not even a year after the engagement, and you've already forgotten how you used to grovel?"

After saying this, Olivia showed a disgusted expression: "How my parents raised their daughter is none of your concern. At least my parents didn't teach me to do naked runs."

Years ago, the Shaw and Collins families were roughly equals.

But after repeated business battles, the Collins family was left behind.

In recent years, they'd barely stayed afloat thanks only to the Shaws' support.

Yet they still couldn't recognize their own position.

With this kind of attitude, Michael and his wife had long lost their patience.

Seeing their daughter speak without holding back, they naturally wouldn't be polite either.

"Alright, we've made it clear. You understand now—this marriage is off."

With that, Michael stood up to leave.

Seeing this clean and decisive action, the Collins couple suddenly realized that Olivia wasn't joking or throwing a tantrum!

The Shaw family was serious!
