Chapter 11 Breaking Off the Engagement

Early the next morning, Olivia woke up extra early.

Today was her day off, and an auspicious day too.

Perfect for calling off an engagement.

Just thinking about still being engaged to John made her feel sick.

She heard her parents and brother's voices outside the door.

Sylvia's voice carried worry. "Michael, don't you think Liv has changed too much lately? Yesterday she said something about everyone around her changing... Do you think she might be sick?"

Michael sounded firm. "What sickness? Our daughter is not sick! Liv has just grown up and has her own ideas now. All we can do is support her. Maybe with the wedding approaching, she's nervous. When you have time, take her shopping to help her relax."

After a brief silence, Vincent's voice came through, tinged with displeasure.

"I really can't stand the thought of Liv getting married, and I definitely don't want to agree to this marriage! That John guy - I can't see a single good thing about him! If it weren't for Liv liking him, I wouldn't even look at him."

In the living room, sighs came one after another.

Until Olivia appeared.

"Vincent, you don't need to worry about me anymore. I'm going to call off the engagement with John today."

All three people in the living room froze.

Sylvia was the first to react, asking excitedly. "Liv, so what you said last time was true?"

Olivia nodded, her tone firm.

"Yes, I was blind before. Now I feel nothing for him. Calling off the engagement will be better for both sides."

Michael's face turned serious.

After a moment, he still showed a relieved smile.

"Liv, to be honest, we've never been happy about this marriage. Last time I was afraid you were just speaking in anger, but this time I understand what you mean. Let's go call off the engagement right now."

They soon arrived at the Collins family home.

"Sir, Madam, the Shaws are here."

After the butler's announcement, Andrew Collins and Julie exchanged glances, both puzzled.

"What's the Shaw family doing here at this time? The wedding isn't for another year, and they didn't give us any notice today."

"Why else? It must be about what their daughter did yesterday! That racing competition, betting on a naked run! Your son's face was completely humiliated!"

"So they're here to apologize today?"

"What else could it be?!"

"Well, we can't forgive them easily. If it weren't for their daughter throwing herself at him, I wouldn't want my son to marry her anyway!"

The two made up their minds and deliberately took their time before letting them in.

Andrew sat on the sofa, looking at news on his phone, not even lifting his eyelids, saying slowly.

"You're here. Have a seat."

Julie sat beside him, drinking tea and reading a magazine.

"Olivia, have you come to your senses and come to apologize to John?"

Olivia had seen this kind of attitude countless times before.

In the past, she didn't really care, and it wasn't because she liked John.

She was just naive back then, thinking she had enough confidence that even after marriage, she'd have the ability to support her own future without wasting energy and time on her in-laws.

But now, she didn't want to put up with it anymore.

Olivia let out a cold laugh, walked up to Julie, threw her magazine straight into the trash can, grabbed her teacup, poured the tea into a nearby flower pot, and said.

"Mrs. Collins, I'm here to call off the engagement. If calling off the engagement with your good-for-nothing, embarrassing son requires an apology, then I'm willing to give one."

The Collins couple hadn't recovered from the shock of the tea being dumped when they were stunned speechless by this statement.

When he came to his senses, Andrew was both angry and annoyed. "Olivia! What do you mean by that? Weren't you the one who begged to get engaged to our John? Now you're backing out just like that? Is this how your parents raised their daughter?"

Olivia's lips curled with mockery. "I did say I liked John back then, but the ones who called my dad countless times asking for the engagement - that was you, wasn't it? The ones whose faces lit up when you got that first contract from my family - that was also you, wasn't it? Not even a year after the engagement, and you've already forgotten how you used to grovel?"

After saying this, Olivia showed a disgusted expression. "How my parents raised their daughter is none of your concern. At least my parents didn't teach me to do naked runs."

Years ago, the Shaw and Collins families were roughly equals.

But after repeated business battles, the Collins family was left behind.

In recent years, they'd barely stayed afloat thanks only to the Shaws' support

Yet they still couldn't recognize their own position.

With this kind of attitude, Michael and his wife had long lost their patience.

Seeing their daughter speak without holding back, they naturally wouldn't be polite either.

"Alright, we've made it clear. You understand now - this marriage is off. Our two families will stay out of each other's way from now on."

With that, Michael stood up to leave.

Seeing this clean and decisive action, the Collins couple suddenly realized that Olivia wasn't joking or throwing a tantrum!

The Shaw family was serious!

No, how could this be!

They had seen Olivia's feelings for their son with their own eyes.

They'd tested her many times before, and no matter how unreasonable they were, Olivia never minded.

Otherwise, they wouldn't have dared to treat the Shaw family this way!

What went wrong here?!

But things had already been said, and Andrew, who had been arrogant for so long, couldn't bring himself to make peace, so he could only keep a dark face and pretend he hadn't heard.

But Julie panicked at the thought of losing the Shaw family's support and cried out. "No! I don't agree! If you force this breakup, we'll spread the word that the Shaw family goes back on their word!"

Clearly, Julie was at the end of her rope, talking nonsense.

But Olivia still stopped.

She glanced at Julie, her lips curving slightly, saying lightly, "We'll terminate all cooperation between our families. Rather than worrying about my family, you should worry about your own struggling future in the business world."

With that, Olivia didn't want to waste more words and turned to open the door.

But when the door opened, John was standing right outside.

He saw Olivia and looked somewhat surprised.

But after thinking for a moment, he deliberately put on a cold face, though his tone carried smugness.

"Olivia, go home. I won't forgive you. A woman like you - vicious and despicable - we're just not right for each other. Don't try to see me again."

Olivia had no idea what was wrong with the Collins family.

Every single one of them - where did they get the confidence to think she was here to apologize?

She found it annoying and interrupted with disgust on her face. "Deal! Double happiness! So I can eat and drink well in the future, you better not show up."

Before she finished speaking, Vincent had already given John a warning look, his tone icy. "John, you and my sister have called off the engagement. You have nothing to do with each other now, so stay away from her. I've never been a patient person."

John's fake arrogance shattered into pieces.
