Chapter 5 Slap John

Samantha looked completely shocked, burst into tears with a loud wail, and threw herself into Linda's arms.

"Mom! She hit me! What gives her the right to hit me!"

Linda pushed her daughter's hands aside to check the red, swollen cheek, feeling both heartbroken and furious.

"Your face is completely red! Olivia, have you lost your mind? Is this how you treat your sister? I'm telling you, when a child is this badly behaved, you parents need to do something about it!"

Sam was so angry his chest heaved, his hands clenched into fists, veins bulging.

"Olivia! If it weren't for your parents' sake, you better believe I would—"

Before he could finish, Michael suddenly stood up, stepped in front of Olivia, and said in a low voice.

"Sam, Liv used to treat Samantha so well, giving her whatever she wanted. If she suddenly hit her this time, I believe there must be a reason."

Though Sylvia looked troubled, after thinking for a moment she said.

"Samantha wanted to try on the necklace, Liv didn't force her to buy it. In the end, she chose to pay for it herself. Even if she paid, the necklace still belongs to your Samantha, doesn't it?"

Linda's eyes widened, her voice sharp with anger.

"You're being unreasonable! Didn't your Olivia hit her? Why all this nonsense! Just make Olivia apologize to Samantha right now!"

Michael's face was cold. "I don't think an apology is necessary. If you think Liv did something wrong, the two kids just won't see each other anymore. Or better yet, we don't need to stay in touch either."

Michael had no blood relation with them anyway.

If not for Sylvia's sake, he would naturally avoid such parasitic relatives.

These words showed no mercy, but the Sam couple wasn't ready to give up and tried to argue.

"But—"

Before they could finish, Sylvia noticed Olivia didn't look well and, unusually, walked to the door and opened it. "I think we should give the kids some cooling-off time. You should go home now."

Seeing this, the Sam couple knew they wouldn't get anywhere.

They could only drag Samantha out, still muttering as they left. "Well, some people have money, don't they? Samantha, just remember this slap. It's your parents' fault for being useless, letting you get bullied by your own aunt's daughter. What family ties, what blood relations—once people have money, who remembers me as a brother?"

Samantha was sobbing, glared viciously at Olivia, then followed Sam out.

The living room became quiet.

Sylvia sighed, then pulled Olivia close, her face full of concern.

"Liv, what happened today? Did someone upset you? Why did you suddenly hit Samantha? Did she bully you?"

You really couldn't blame Sylvia for being protective.

She knew her own daughter best.

Olivia was kind to people. Even if she was a bit straightforward, she would never bully others without reason.

Michael also softened his tone, but remained firm.

"With Mom and Dad here, no one can bully you."

Olivia's nose tingled.

She held back tears and leaned into her mother's embrace.

"No, I just suddenly realized that Samantha isn't as innocent as she seems."

Not just not innocent—she was downright vicious.

In her past life, if not for her, how would her parents have died of heart attacks with their eyes still open, and how would her brother have fallen off that cliff?

In this life, she would protect the peace and happiness she had regained.

She gripped Sylvia's hand tightly and said word by word.

"Mom, Dad, you need to be more careful around the White family too."

Sylvia patted her back comfortingly.

"Okay, Liv has been wronged. We can just keep our distance from them. But your uncle is still my brother—"

Yes, her brother, which is why they would be completely defenseless when he harmed them.

But Olivia had no way to make them believe in something as intangible as her past life.

As she remained silent, Michael noticed his daughter seemed to have something hard to say, and what had just happened made him feel she had changed.

He hesitated but still said, "Liv, is something bothering you?"

Olivia lowered her eyes, hiding the complexity in them.

"Dad, there are some things I can't explain clearly, but I just hope you'll trust me. The White family has bad intentions. The further away we stay, the better."

Michael nodded.

But Sylvia was even more conflicted. "Blood relatives—wouldn't it be wrong to just cut off contact like this?"

Olivia tried to persuade her. "Mom, people who only take advantage of you—what kind of blood relatives are they? It's better to cut them off."

Sylvia didn't say anything more.

But Olivia knew clearly that without finding evidence, she couldn't completely shatter Sylvia's illusions about family ties.

The next morning, Olivia's phone rang.

It was John.

"Olivia, come to the racing track this afternoon to watch my race."

John's tone was flat.

This wasn't an invitation—it was more like an order.

Olivia said coldly. "Not going."

There was a second of silence on the other end.

John never expected Olivia would refuse, and as nameless anger rose within him, his voice grew heavier."Don't say I didn't warn you. If you miss this chance, it won't be so easy to see me again."

These words made Olivia feel sick.

She hung up directly.

But then she suddenly remembered that in her past life, on this day, John had won first place in the race and basked in glory, which had made her miserable.

Since John wanted her to go, she would do as he wished.

That afternoon, the racing track was buzzing with people.

As soon as Olivia reached the spectator seats, she felt many hostile stares.

"Well, well, isn't this Ms. Shaw? Here to fawn over John again?"

"Even if she wants to fawn, she can't get close. She can only come watch his race and fantasize by herself."

Olivia raised an eyebrow and looked back to see several men in racing suits huddled together staring at her, their faces full of mocking smiles.

Weren't these John's buddies?

Four spoiled rich kids led by Jack Smith—they had mocked her plenty in the past.

Olivia glanced at them with disgust, pulled out her phone, and said.

"Looks like you'll never learn the phrase 'trouble comes from the mouth.'"

Jack sneered, pointing at Olivia's phone and raising his eyebrows exaggeratedly at the people behind him.

"Oh my, who are you going to call to complain?"

Another rich kid laughed out loud.

"Complain about what? She loves John like her life depends on it, would kiss the ground he walks on. We're so close with John—would she dare?"

But in the next second, Olivia's cool voice rang out.

"Dad, I want to cancel all deals with the Smith and Lee family companies. Cut ties with them completely. And the Smith contract has loopholes—I want to sue them for fraud!"

The call wasn't hung up yet, and Jack's face had already turned white.

"You! You're serious!"

Olivia sneered.

"Yeah, fun, isn't it?"

Jack wanted to back down and apologize, but thinking of how Olivia used to be madly in love with John, he still held onto hope.

Until his phone shattered the silence.

"Jack Smith! Our family was counting on Shaw Corporation to help us out, and you go and offend their daughter! Now we're going to get sued too. Don't come home—just get lost!"

Jack didn't dare listen anymore and hung up, already breaking into a cold sweat.

Soon after, the other rich kids also received calls.

The whole group nearly collapsed on the spot.

At this point, saving face didn't matter anymore.

Jack was so scared he almost cried, nearly kneeling before Olivia, begging.

"Ms. Shaw, I was wrong, please let us off!"

Olivia couldn't be bothered and turned to leave.

But two figures suddenly appeared not far from her, blocking her way.

Samantha was stroking her new necklace, looking like she was watching a show.

And beside her, John's face was dark.

"Olivia, have you made enough of a scene? Hurry up and apologize to them."

Olivia sneered and beckoned to him with her finger.

"Then come here."

John knew it—Olivia could never escape his grasp.

But he couldn't let go of his superior attitude.

He walked forward a few steps with a cold face, unable to hide the smugness in his tone.

"Know you were wrong now?"

With a flip of Olivia's hand, a crisp slap rang out.

John's face burned with pain.
