Chapter 5 Hitting two birds with one stone
“What are you standing there for?” Grace asked with a frown as she glanced at Tristan, who came out of his daze and started fighting the attacker close to him.
In ten minutes, they were done, and Grace sighed as she fell on the chair.
Tristan stared at her and snorted. “Now you are tired? Thought you were too strong?”
Grace looked at him, then looked outside. She wasn’t worried about Natalie as she knew the latter could protect herself.
She was relieved that she had managed to stop Tristan from feeling grateful to Natalie. At least now, she had changed something, and Tristan won’t make things hard for her because of Natalie.
“I never knew you knew how to fight,” Tristan said as he tried to communicate with Grace.
“I really don’t know,” Grace answered without looking at him.
Her attitude stunned Tristan, as he had thought that she had come to save him cause she had feelings for him. Now, it seemed that she was greatly mistaken; he frowned as he tried to think why else Grace would risk her life for him.
He didn’t doubt her words when she said that she didn’t know how to fight, as he had noticed that whenever they tried attacking her, she would dodge; she was just good at using the pistols. Still, he couldn’t understand how one would be so professional with the pistols, but she didn’t train for fights.
He shook his head, not knowing what to think about her anymore.
“Why are you here?” he asked.
“A burn,” she replied calmly. Though it was a few words that could be mistaken for her being cold or arrogant, her bright eyes seemed to speak what her words couldn’t.
“No, I mean, why are you here, saving me?” he asked. “After all, all the patients have surely been evacuated.”
“I was worried about my sister,” Grace said as she yawned. She frowned as she wondered why Natalie had not yet walked in. Were they still fighting?
She stood up and walked towards the door. Tristan was staring at him while his bodyguards, who were there, were looking around the room and the balcony.
Grace opened the door and saw Natalie was talking to a group of people and sighed in relief. She knew that they must be part of her team. ‘At least she is okay; I have escaped being hated for her injury and saved the guy. Hitting two birds with one stone.’ She thought, and a smile appeared on her face.
She felt a stare on her and sighed as she wondered why the man was still staring at her for that whole time; wasn’t he getting tired?
She turned around and looked at the guy. “Your background seems complicated, huh? People after your head?”
Tristan stared at her face for a while, trying to find any sign of fakeness, but all he saw was innocence and curiosity, causing sighed in relief. He had been wondering whether she had really shown up on that floor cause of her sister, as she had said, or because she knew his background.
No one at school knew which family he came from apart from the teachers. Still, he doubted whether she was there to save Natalie, as he understood that they didn’t get along, one the real heiress and the other the fake.
“Thank you for saving me,” he said. He couldn’t deny that she had really come on time. Previously, the fight had been outside when they were ambushed by people who came through the balcony and others who had been wearing the doctor's and nurses' coats.
If she had not walked in with just two bodyguards, he wouldn’t have survived.
Natalie looked at the ward and sighed in relief. She had had a premonition that something would happen to her when she heard there were attackers in the ward. She had been fighting her way to the ward when Grace showed up.
She couldn’t deny that Grace had indeed helped her, first to concentrate and fight the attackers outside while she assured the Morgan’s fifth young master was okay. With no screams, just calmness, she knew that the attackers in there had been dealt with.
“Who is that lady who showed up? She looked much younger than Natalie,” One of the men with her asked as he stared at the ward.
“My sister,” Natalie replied before turning around calmly, startling everyone. The group was left there, and after a while, they exchanged glances as they found it hard to believe her words, as they all knew about Grace.
She walked to the room, looked around before staring at Grace. “Where is mom?” she asked.
“Where you left us,” Grace replied as she continued playing with her phone.
Natalie frowned at her words, finding it hard to believe her and doubted her. “Why would mom let you come here?”
“I knocked her off; she wouldn’t, and I had to. If something happened to you, they would blame me cause you two were just accompanying me to the hospital when the incident happened,” Grace said in a serious tone as she looked at Natalie.
Natalie was stunned to hear her words and felt as if someone had slapped her. She had been touched thinking that Grace was there cause she was worried about her, cared for her, but it seemed it was just to benefit herself. She sneered and looked at Grace coldly. However, Grace just rolled her eyes when she saw how her attitude had changed.
Grace stood up, placed the phone back in her pocket, then looked at the man who was seated on the hospital bed. “Tristan, I am going back. Take care of yourself.”
With that, she started to walk away.
“Wait,” Tristan shouted; his tone carried a bit of urgency.
Grace stopped and turned to look at him. She didn’t speak; she just raised her eyebrows at him as she waited for him to speak. Nonetheless, her heart was racing fast as she wondered whether the time had come.
