Chapter 1
Scarlet looked at the room with a blank expression as she processed everything.
She had been reborn.
She hurriedly got out of bed and walked to the mirror, looking at her face, the familiar youthful face, Scarlet was filled with both pain and happiness. Sadness that she had to go through what she went through so that she could realise what was going on, happiness, cause she had been granted another chance to make everything right.
“Scarlet, why are you still asleep? Your father’s people have already arrived,” someone said outside her room, stunning her.
From the words, she knew that she had been reborn on the day she went back to the Jenkins. However, she didn’t want to go at all as she already knew why they wanted her back. All she wanted in this life was to live a peaceful life without dramas thus she really needed to escape that family. She walked around her room restlessly as she didn’t know what to do. She wished that she had woken up earlier so that she could plan everything.
“Aunt, I am not leaving,” she shouted as she sat on her bed. The woman outside was stunned when she heard her words, as she had already told the latter about the family coming to pick her up, and she had seemed to be happy, thus she couldn’t understand why everything had changed in just one night.
Without asking for permission, she unlocked the door and walked in. She saw Scarlet seated on the bed, frowning, and she sighed.
“Scar, what’s wrong?” she asked as she patted the latter’s head.
“Aunt, why should I leave with them? Didn’t he abandon me when Mom died? He chased us out, so why should I go back? He has another family out there.” Scarlett asked as she stared at her aunt.
“Scar, everything happens for a reason. Also, you know how hard it is for us here. I am afraid that I won’t be able to afford your fees, at least with him, you will get the best education,” her aunt said, trying to convince her, but the latter shook her head, refusing to believe her words.
“Aunt, we will work something out. Also, I can’t leave you here all alone,” Scarlet said as her eyes became watery.
In her past life, she had left the only person who cared for her. The woman seated next to her wasn’t even her aunt. One day, she had asked her mother to buy her some desserts, and they left the house at night to go and buy some. They came across the woman as she was surrounded by men. They saved her, then learnt that she was an orphan. She was only five years old at the time, and the lady was only fifteen. She called her aunt, as her mother had taken her in as her sister and not her daughter. However, the heavens weren’t on their side as a few months later, her mother died.
Immediately after her burial, her father brought her mistress and her children into their mansion, then chased the two out. With nowhere to go, her aunt brought her where she had been living before she had moved in with them. The man, the so-called father, never sent them even a dime; they were even surprised when he called and told them that Scarlet would be going back home.
She didn’t want to go back there, and if the money was an issue, as someone who had been reborn, she knew more about what would happen in the future, and she could use those details to earn some money.
“That won’t do, my dear. You are the legitimate and sole heir of those properties. Don’t forget what sister said before she left. She said that we should never leave the inheritance to them. There are a lot of things in that mansion that belong to your mother. Do you want them to use them as theirs?” her aunt said, stunning Scarlet.
Now that it was mentioned, she recalled that her mother was the founder of her father’s company. She had left the shares in her name and her aunt’s name. However, a year after she left and went with the Jenkins, she was told her aunt had died. If not for what Ann had told her, she would never have found out the truth about her aunt’s death.
“Well, at least let’s go downstairs as the butler is waiting. He is the same butler as before. We can’t punish him for what those people are doing, right?” Sophia said, though she didn’t know whether Ivanna recalled the man or not. They had been kicked out of the house when she was so young, and she knew that maybe she couldn’t remember anything.
Scarlet nodded, thinking that she would know what to do later on. They walked out of the room and went to the living room, where a man who seemed to be over sixty was waiting for them.
Immediately, he saw Scarlet, and his eyes were filled with tears.
“Oh dear. You have grown up so much,” he said as he pulled her for a hug, and Scarlet let him hug her as she recalled that the man and his wife were the only people who had given her warmth when she went back to that family. She really didn’t want to return kindness with ignorance and hatred.
“Young miss, the master instructed me to come for you,” the man said after coming down, and Scarlet just stared at him.
She opened her mouth wanting to tell him that she won’t be going, but she remembered the influence the Jenkins had in the city. She knew that if she refused, they would use other ways to make her go. She sighed, feeling frustrated as though she had been given a chance to make everything right, it seemed that she didn’t even have anything under her control.
“If you insist, then I will go with you. However, if my aunt isn’t coming with me, then I am not going with you,” Scarlet said, stunning both the man and Sophia as they never expected her to say that.
Sophia’s eyes were filled with tears as she thought that Scarlet had been refusing to leave with the butler cause she didn’t want to leave her behind, she felt touched.
“That’s not a must, dear. I will stay here,” Sophia said as she patted Scarlet’s head.
She never told the latter about her mother as she didn’t want her to be filled with hatred. Cause of this, she knew that the girl didn’t know how she and her mother had met. She always thought that she was her relative. But to Sophia, she knew the real reason why Scarlet’s mother had let her live with them.
“Uhm, young miss. I don’t think that is possible,” the butler said when she saw Scarlet refusing to hear Sophia’s words.
“Well, you call him and ask. If he refuses, tell him that I won’t go to live with them,” Scarlet said with a smirk, as she was sure they won’t let her stay.
She didn’t want them to have their way in this life, so if they insist on her living with them, she will make sure they suffer some losses, and she gets what she wants. Also, she thought that she could try with saving her aunt’s life first then the rest would follow.
The butler looked at Scarlet and nodded his head when he understood that she was serious.
“Why are you calling me at this time? Don’t you know that I am in the office and you are disturbing me?” the man on the other side said coldly immediately the call was connected.
“Sir, the eldest young miss refuses to go back. She says that if it’s a must for her to go back, she has to go back with Sophia,” the butler said, causing the man to halt whatever he was doing.
He said a few words to him, and the butler hung up the call.
“So? What did he say?” Scarlet asked with a smirk on her face.
