Chapter 10 Marry Me Tomorrow
The constant roar of heavy machinery barely drew more than a passing glance from the construction workers when a white sports car pulled up at the edge of the site.
The driver's door opened, and Teressa stepped out first, her face clearly clouded with anger.
Billy followed a few steps behind, wearing a calm expression as though he had come for no reason other than to accompany her.
Standing beside the hood of his black SUV with his arms crossed, Revan kept his eyes fixed on the excavators digging the first foundation trenches. He didn't even turn when he heard footsteps approaching.
"So it's true. You really are here." Teressa's voice was sharp.
Only then did Revan slowly shift his gaze.
His indifferent eyes settled on the woman who was supposed to become his wife in three days, then moved to Billy standing beside her.
There wasn't the slightest hint of surprise on his face.
It was as if he had expected them to come.
"Do you need something?" Revan asked flatly.
Teressa frowned. His tone was far too cold. There was no warm greeting, no smile, not even a simple question asking if she was alright. "Revan, I heard you've been selling almost all of your personal assets."
"So?"
The curt response only fueled Teressa's anger. "So?" she repeated in disbelief. "We're getting married in three days. The whole city is talking about you. Everyone's wondering why you're suddenly selling so many of your assets."
Revan remained calm. "And?"
"You don't care?"
"What exactly am I supposed to care about?"
Teressa took a deep breath, trying to contain her emotions. "People are starting to think you're hiding something."
"I am selling my assets."
"That's not what I mean." Her voice rose, causing several workers to glance in their direction. "Are you planning to marry me after you've spent all your money? Have you ever thought about how I'd feel?"
Revan looked at her for several seconds. His expression barely changed. "Why should I?"
The emotionless question left Teressa speechless.
Revan continued in the same calm voice. "They're my assets."
"You..."
"Whether I sell them or keep them is my decision," Revan cut in.
Teressa clenched both fists. "You weren't like this before."
"People change."
An awkward silence settled over them.
Seeing Teressa's face growing redder by the second, Billy finally stepped forward with a faint smile. "Revan," he said in a much calmer tone, "I think this is all just a misunderstanding."
Revan looked at his cousin without expression.
Billy raised both hands as though trying to make peace. "Teressa's just worried. After all, the two of you are about to become husband and wife."
Revan said nothing.
Billy smiled again. "Try looking at it from her perspective. A few days before the wedding, her fiancé suddenly starts selling almost all of his personal assets. It's only natural that she'd start wondering what's going on."
Revan's expression remained cold. "And?"
Billy chuckled softly. "I just want the two of you to work this out."
Teressa immediately nodded. "That's right. I just want an explanation."
"I already gave you one."
"No, you didn't."
Revan let out a quiet sigh. "I'm selling my assets because I want to sell them."
"That's not an explanation," Teressa shot back angrily.
Billy stepped in again before the situation could escalate. "Revan, not everyone can stay as calm as you."
He smiled politely, though his eyes concealed something entirely different. "If you really aren't hiding anything, I don't think there's any harm in giving Teressa some peace of mind."
Revan remained silent.
Billy continued in a reasonable tone. "At least give her some reassurance."
Teressa nodded eagerly. "Yes. That's all I want."
Revan's gaze shifted from Billy to Teressa.
Standing before him, Teressa looked genuinely anxious.
Beside her, Billy wore the calm smile of someone trying to mediate the situation.
But Revan knew better.
Billy had never been a peacemaker.
He had always been a snake, hiding his fangs behind a friendly smile.
"What kind of reassurance?" Revan asked without expression.
Billy smiled faintly. "You two are getting married in three days, aren't you?"
"Yes."
"In that case..."
Billy shrugged casually. "Why not move the wedding up?"
Teressa nodded, looking at Revan while carefully hiding the flash of cunning in her eyes.
Billy continued in an even tone, as though the idea had only just occurred to him. "If you really aren't hiding anything, marry Teressa tomorrow."
Silence instantly fell over them.
Even the distant rumble of heavy machinery seemed louder than before.
"Once you're officially husband and wife, no one will have any reason to speculate anymore. Everyone will know your relationship is perfectly fine." Billy's eyes settled on Revan. "So, what do you say?"
Revan held Billy's gaze for several moments. His eyes were as calm as the surface of a still lake.
In his previous life, the suggestion might have caught him off guard.
But now, he knew exactly where Billy was trying to lead the game.
His cousin was trying to speed up the wedding before Revan could finish carrying out his plans.
The faintest smile touched the corner of Revan's lips.
He looked at Billy for a long moment before finally giving a slow nod.
"Alright."
The brief answer left both Billy and Teressa frozen.
"You... agree?" Teressa asked, unable to believe it.
Revan nodded once. "If that's what you want."
Teressa's eyes immediately lit up.
The relieved smile she had been holding back finally spread across her face.
In her mind, it was only a matter of time before all of Revan's wealth became hers.
Meanwhile, Billy quietly let out a breath of relief.
As far as he was concerned, the only thing that mattered was making sure Revan was tied to the marriage as quickly as possible.
Neither of them realized that from the very beginning, Revan had never intended to go through with the wedding.
Teressa only noticed something when her gaze swept across the construction site.
Dozens of excavators continued digging into the earth.
Massive cranes lifted steel frameworks.
Truck after truck loaded with cement and steel continued arriving without pause.
A frown appeared on her face.
"Wait..." She looked back at Revan. "What exactly are you building on a property this huge?"
Revan followed her gaze. Then he answered simply. "A house." He paused for a brief moment. "A house that will keep me alive."
His final words were almost swallowed by the deafening roar of heavy machinery echoing across the construction site.
Teressa didn't hear them.
She merely shrugged before looking back over the busy project.
For some reason, her instincts told her that something this massive didn't look anything like an ordinary house.
'Whatever. That house will be mine sooner or later anyway,' she thought.
