Chapter 4 their fun day
Amber’s P.O.V. (Continued)
He understood that I had people around me.
“No. I didn’t receive any request for a visit from any pack, nor did we ask anyone to come here.” He replied to me in a serious tone.
“These rogues are just roaming at the same place while having a fun day, Daniel. Fun day. Do you actually believe this?” I asked him while emphasizing the fun day part.
There was silence on his side and so on my side.
“It seems that they are waiting for someone there. Someone important.” I spoke further when he didn’t utter a word in reply, still studying rogues’ movements there through various surveillance cameras.
“What do you mean?” he asked me, alarmed and excited.
“Means that they are just putting on a show of having a fun day, brother. A few of them looked in a particular direction from time to time, and then, two of them at one time went away and came back in a few seconds. This place is the most secured part of our pack. We use this route to receive important figures.” I explained and took a deep breath.
“Damn it. Either someone important is coming to our pack unannounced, or they are here to create a distraction.” Hector exclaimed angrily, and I smiled, giving him a praising gaze.
“F**k. Just stay there, and keep your eyes on them, Amber. I will call you back in a few minutes.” Daniel instructed me, and I just smiled before hanging up.
“I don’t mean to sound sarcastic or hypocritical, Amber, but with your brain and skills, being wolf-less is just a minor setback, like not having long hair when you desire it the most.” Phill, a warrior, remarked teasingly.
Even though it was just a joke, it still pricked my heart.
Still, I looked at him with an appreciative gaze.
Phill was among those people who didn’t look down at me.
“Phill.” Hector called him in warning, but I waved my hand in dismissal, trying to dismiss this topic.
“I am not belittling her, Hector. You have seen her growth. Tell me who else other than her has shown this much growth in the past three years. Even without her wolf, she can kill a few rogues barehanded. She can beat the a**es of warriors like Roman and Carl mercilessly in intense sparring, and we have been watching these rogues for more than an hour, and yet she noticed what we couldn’t.” Phill argued, bringing up my achievements aggressively.
“Thanks for your praise, Phill, but right now, we need to know why those rogues are here. Nothing matters more than the safety of our home, right?” I interrupted their argument, bringing up the pressing issue in our hands.
Both Phill and Hector were in their early thirties, mated and fathers. They were one of the best warriors in our pack.
“Pull the surveillance footage from other border stations, Phill. Call the leaders there and ask them to search the area for a mile ahead of us for any kind of threat. This can be a distraction.” I instructed them while moving back to the monitors.
“Damn it.” Hector suddenly cursed, making me glance at him.
“The king with his convoy just crossed the border security post of The Night Shadow Pack.” He informed me hurriedly, anxiety spiking on his face.
My blood went cold immediately.
The Night Shadow Pack checkpost was only four miles ahead of us. “Damn it," I cursed under my breath now.
“What the f**k? I need to go for now, Amber, but I warn you not to act recklessly, okay? Listen to Hector and Phill,” Daniel yelled at me in panic, worried, but he was the beta.
He hung up after that, and I smiled faintly while working with the system.
“Where are you?” David mind-linked me, but I couldn’t answer him through mind-link in front of them.
I put on my earbuds and called David while sitting on the chair so that I could pull the surveillance of the common camera system.
“Where are you, bro?” I asked David when he picked up the call. I put the phone on the table and continued working. My fingers were now running hard on the keyboard.
I wasn’t just a strategist. I also completed my graduation in computer science and was the only one in the pack who could hack.
“If you are at the southeast border, just come back home.” He instructed me in a serious tone.
“We have a situation here, bro. I can’t come back.” I replied to him calmly; my concentration was completely on the screen.
Hector and Phill walked out of the room to take care of other matters to strengthen the safety around the station if the king was really coming our way.
“Damn it.” I cursed under my breath when I saw the king’s convoy crossing another checkpoint of the other pack.
“They are coming our way, Hector.” I yelled aloud, knowing well that he can listen to my yelling outside.
“I need to go, bro." I spoke hurriedly, ready to hang up when I heard his voice.
“You have to leave, Amber. Let Adrian and Daniel take care of the matters, okay?” David coaxed me anxiously.
I smiled, feeling the warmth of his care and worry in my chest.
“Trust me, bro. I will be back home safely.” I assured him and hung up, as I had work to finish now.
I left the phone on the table and ran out of the room.
Hector was now barking orders, creating chaos there.
“How far are they from us?” Phill asked me hurriedly when he noticed me coming towards them.
“We need to get out now. They are only three minutes away if not intercepted midway by the rogues.” I told them while walking towards the box with ammunition.
“Damn it.” Hector yelled, but I didn’t panic. This is not the time to panic.
“We need to go now, Hector. Take guns.” I instructed him coldly, using my beta tone on him.
For a second, everyone went silent around me, but I wore the gear that I needed right now. I was still in my exercise clothes.
“Come on, guys. We don’t have time to waste.” I growled when they didn’t make any move behind me.
I stuffed a few magazines inside the waist belt and moved back while fuming now.
“Are you coming or not, Hector?” I asked him angrily, snapping him out of his daze.
He blinked and hurriedly approached me to get some guns too.
Five more warriors with Phill also ran towards the box while I walked towards the borderline. “Rogues. A few of them disappeared just now.” Someone yelled behind me, and I grimaced before starting to run towards the borderline.
"Amber come back." Hector roared behind me, but I took my gun out of my holder.
"Alert all the stations, Hector. The king's convoy is the target. They are going to attack the convoy right in front of us. Initiate plan B." I roared my instructions before I leaped high, stretching my legs to the maximum extent to the cross the borderline.
