Chapter 5 a surprise trip
Lucifer’s P.O.V. (The King)
“Just because she is one of the top ten strategists among the werewolves, you are making this trip to the Dark Shadow Pack without informing them, putting yourself in grave danger. Since when did you become so reckless and interested in a mere she-wolf, bro?” Lucian, my brother, grumbled the nth time after we left the pack to come to the Dark Shadow Pack.
“I also didn't understand him, Lucian. I mean, he is the king. If he wants to test anyone, there are plenty of ways to test her abilities. He can summon her to the royal pack at any time. How is this way the best to test whether she is really that skilled and capable that we have heard about her?” Ethan, my beta who was now sitting in the passenger’s seat, said to Lucian with a light chuckle, voicing his own confusion and opinion.
I just glanced at him coldly but didn't feel like explaining anything to them.
"I guess he has something in mind to test her. It may be possible that he wants to bring her to the royal pack?" Ethan remarked teasingly, but Lucian snarled.
“Spare me from this nonsense, Ethan. We have you…. The best strategist. We don’t need someone else, and above all, she has no wolf. Even if she has some skills, she can be a liability in critical and dangerous situations.” Lucian still argued, giving me a headache.
“Stop now, Lucian. Don’t forget that you are still the crown prince. She is our subject to protect. Whether she has her wolf or not, you shouldn’t speak like this.” I scolded him in a low voice.
He wasn’t wrong though. I heard so many things about Amber Holt in the past few months that I became curious, and now I was also regretting coming this far only to see and test her.
“You can change the crown prince at any time, bro. Now it's time for you to find a mate for yourself, giving this world its queen and our pack its Luna. Then you can have as many crown princes as you want.” Lucian replied to me flatly, but he earned the coldest glare from me.
“No one will take you as a mute if you stop speaking.” I scolded him coldly.
He opened his mouth but immediately zipped it under my cold gaze.
Mate….
The most painful topic to me…
Her beautiful and sparkling eyes immediately appeared in front of me. She had a most beautiful pair of emerald eyes.
Silence fell in the car; it was heavy and suffocating, but I kept looking outside.
“We crossed the checkpoint of the Night Shadow Pack, Lucifer, but something fell off.” Ethan spoke in a strained voice, making me look at him.
"What is it?" I asked him calmly, moving my gaze on him.
He was doing something on his laptop; his fingers were now running furiously, but the tightness in his jaw made me alert.
"The pack warriors suddenly spread in the area as soon as we crossed the checkpoint, and even when they noticed the flag, they didn't come out as they should have," he explained in a strained voice.
My jaw clenched, understanding his statement completely, yet I kept my demeanor calm.
“Are you sure that no one else knows about our visit here?” I asked him calmly.
“Yeah. This is a sudden planned trip, and I didn’t tell anyone else but Gabriel.” He replied to me in the same tone.
Gabriel Fitzman was my gamma and the best warrior of our pack.
"And Gabriel will rather die than let the information leak," Lucian murmured. Our gazes met. Even though Lucian was two years younger than me, our minds worked at the same wavelength as if we were twins.
Ethan’s phone started ringing, breaking the silence again.
Both I and Lucian moved our gazes back towards the windows on our side.
I narrowed my eyes a little so that I could see as far as possible.
“Open the window.” Beast, my wolf, demanded with a low snarl.
"It has been days since I went for hunt." Lucian grumbled in whispers, but I didn't pay attention to him.
I immediately lowered the window glass and got a very faint whiff of rotten egg.
“Damn it.” I cursed.
“F**k them.” Lucian cursed at the same time.
“Screw them.” Ethan also cursed angrily.
“Rogues.” We all yelled at the same time.
“Stop the car.” Lucian demanded, anger evident in his voice.
“No. We can’t. Adrian is on the call. His beta, Daniel, has assigned a team near their checkpoint. They said that the rogues are more than 50 in number, and they are already in this area.” Ethan was now breathing heavily because of anger and worry.
“Damn it. How do they always get the whiff of your movements, Lucifer? Did they transplant a bug in you?” Lucian grumbled angrily, but my eyes were now outside the window behind him.
“Press it. The checkpoint is only a few meters away.” Ethan roared while shutting off his laptop and pocketing his phone.
“Get ready for the ambush. Spotted 50 rogues in this area.” I commanded all the warriors in the car around and behind us through mind-link, removing my watch and bracelet.
The rotten smell in the air increased, which made me scowl darkly.
“They are closer. No time to wait for their soldier to be here for rescue.” I spoke through the mind-link and patted the back of the driver’s seat.
“We are almost there, Lucifer. Give them a few more seconds.” Ethan grumbled and opened the window on his side.
“No time to wait, Ethan. They are already here.” I replied to him while opening the door.
“Stop.” Ethan roared in panic, but I had already jumped out of the car.
It's a good thing that I wore khaki combat trousers with combat boots and a slightly loose white v-neck t-shirt for the travel instead of wearing a formal suit.
I roared aloud while extending my claws; Beast’s voice mixed with mine.
At the same time, three rogues appeared from behind the tree, snarling aloud, drool dripping out of their filthy mouths continuously.
The cars stopped behind me.
I didn’t run towards them but waited for them to reach me.
They pushed each other to take a lead while running towards me.
They seemed excited, but they didn't know what was coming to them.
I grimaced while Beast snarled lowly, our eyes fixed on our prey.
The excitement of killing these filthy animals started building up in my veins.
I roared aloud threateningly while taking a step forward towards them, spreading my hands behind me, ready to attack them at any time.
We were near the Night Shadow Pack, and I was sure that they would have deployed a team by then.
What's wrong with having a bit of fun before they arrive here?
I was about to take another step forward when the wind changed direction.
A strong smell of rose and gardenia hit my nostrils, freezing me in my place.
Right at the cue, all three of them leaped high in the air.
