There was no time. I reached for his wrist, trying to peel his hand off me.

 

The man snapped alert. His other hand came up to grab my collar.

 

I slapped him away in one motion. My palm slid down his forearm to the edge of his holster—hook, pull—and I ripped the pistol free.
