Chapter 3 The New Offer, and the Boss Turns Out to Be Him!
After Samuel finished speaking, he let out a light laugh and actually just walked away like that.
Nora stood there, puzzling over it for a long while but couldn't figure out what he meant.
What did he mean by "see if you can still say that tomorrow"?
She couldn't figure it out, so she just stopped trying.
That night, she lay in the side room of the children's ward, tossing and turning, unable to sleep.
Mia's condition, the astronomical surgery fee... it all pressed down on her like a mountain, making it hard to breathe.
One million dollars—how could she possibly raise that much money?
Just then, her phone screen lit up with a new email notification.
The sender was a well-known multinational corporation she had desperately sent her resume to before.
Bright Capital.
The email was brief, but it made her sit bolt upright instantly.
[Ms. Nora, congratulations on passing the interview. Our group's top wedding brand planning department urgently needs a project assistant with full wedding planning experience. You are a perfect match for our emergency talent program. We invite you to report to Bright Tower tomorrow at 9 AM.]
Jesus!
This company was a leader in the industry!
Even regular employees made over ten thousand a month. If she could produce some results, the income would be really good!
This was real money and real hope!
Nora's heart immediately started racing. Without hesitation, she replied with confirmation.
She was both shocked and thrilled.
Days of gloom instantly vanished into thin air.
For Mia's sake, she had to do well at this job no matter what!
Bright Tower was in the heart of the CBD.
Early the next morning, Nora, wearing high heels she wasn't quite used to, merged into the crowded stream of people rushing to work.
The elevator entrance was packed.
She squeezed into an elevator with the crowd, but before she could steady herself, she was pushed and shoved back out.
Then she crashed into a solid chest.
A familiar cedarwood scent instantly hit her.
This scent...
Nora's whole body stiffened. She looked up and met a pair of eyes looking down at her from above.
Samuel!
The man was wearing a black suit today, broad shoulders and narrow waist, his features cold and sharp, looking even more composed and restrained than yesterday at the wedding company.
He steadied her arm with one hand, the atmosphere frozen.
"Nora?" He raised an eyebrow slightly, his voice cold. "Yesterday you acted like you wanted nothing to do with me, and today you're already throwing yourself into my arms?"
He lowered his head slightly with a half-smile. "Ms. Brooks already has a husband and a child, and you're still doing this kind of thing?"
Blood rushed to her head instantly.
Nora pushed him away, forcing herself to ignore the sharp pain in her ankle as she stumbled to steady herself.
"Mr. Green's imagination is a bit too active."
She brushed her hair back. "The elevator was crowded, it was just an accident."
As she spoke, she wondered to herself.
Why would Samuel be here? Was he a partner here?
But then again, Green & Associates had such a wide business network, it wasn't that surprising.
Samuel's smile deepened a bit. He stopped looking at her and left her with an ambiguous remark.
"Perhaps. I wish Ms. Brooks... a pleasant time working at Bright Capital."
The elevator doors slowly closed, cutting off his tall, cold figure.
Nora was confused.
"How strange..."
She didn't dare delay and immediately went to another elevator.
The floor where the planning department was located.
The HR specialist quickly processed her onboarding, gave her a temporary ID badge, and whispered a reminder.
"In ten minutes, go to the main conference room. There's an emergency department meeting. The boss is coming to inspect today, so don't be late."
Nora's heart tightened, and she quickly nodded in agreement.
Ten minutes later, she followed other colleagues to the conference room.
The room was already filled with quite a few people, the atmosphere solemn and silent.
She found a seat in the farthest corner and sat down, feeling a bit nervous from the atmosphere.
Was this boss really that intimidating?
Just as she was thinking this, the door suddenly opened.
Everyone's breathing instantly stopped.
A tall figure walked in, long-legged and imposing, his overwhelming presence instantly dropping the temperature in the conference room several degrees.
The man's features were cold and sharp, his prominent brow bone and high nose bridge strikingly handsome. Under the cold white lights of the conference room, he seemed like frozen ice.
Seeing the familiar face, Nora's brain went "buzz" and completely crashed.
He... wasn't a partner.
The boss of Bright Capital's top wedding brand was actually Samuel!?
So that lifeline of an email wasn't a coincidence at all?
He did it on purpose?
Nora couldn't believe it.
Why would he do this? To get revenge for her scolding him yesterday? Or revenge for her leaving without saying goodbye five years ago?
Samuel sat in the main seat, legs crossed. After his eyes met her shocked gaze, he quickly looked away.
Without any pause, as if she were a stranger.
"Let's begin."
The meeting proceeded under oppressive tension.
Nora kept her head down, staring at a blank page in her notebook, her fingertips white from gripping so hard.
In her ears were the voices of department heads giving reports, but she couldn't hear a single word, only praying for time to pass quickly and the meeting to end soon.
Finally, the meeting ended.
Nora quickly gathered her things and tried to slip away, but after just a few steps, the man's deep voice came from behind her.
"You, the new hire?"
Everyone's eyes instantly converged on her.
Nora's steps stopped abruptly.
She adjusted her breathing, mechanically turned around, and smiled stiffly and ingratiatingly.
"Yes, Mr. Green. What can I do for you?"
Samuel calmly picked up his coffee. "Come to my office later. I have some proposals that need revising. Let's see what your professional level is like."
Nora's smile stiffened.
Go to his office? How was that different from walking into the lion's den?"Mr. Green, it's my first day at work today. I might not be very familiar with the company's business yet. Could you give me some time?"
"Oh."
Nora breathed a sigh of relief, then heard the man casually toss out another line.
"So you're not capable enough then."
Nora gritted her teeth in anger. This damn man was clearly doing this on purpose!
"No, I..."
Just as she was about to say something, the planning department director quickly pulled her aside, gave her a look, then respectfully said to Samuel.
"Yes, Mr. Green. I'll have her go to your office shortly."
Nora was momentarily speechless.
She took a deep breath, adjusted herself, and prepared to leave.
"By the way, I ordered a batch of design materials. Later, I'll trouble Assistant Su to go pick them up and bring them to my office. Remember, handle them carefully, don't damage them."
Nora frowned and instinctively asked, "But this... doesn't seem to be within my job scope, does it?"
"Are you questioning me?"
Samuel's face turned cold as he looked at the director. "Is this the person you hired, specifically to oppose me?"
The director looked confused.
No.
This is so unfair.
Didn't you hire her yourself?
