Chapter 4 Secretary? A Dog Wouldn't Do It, She Will!

"Mr. Green, please don't be angry. Nora just joined the company and doesn't know any better yet. I'll have a good talk with her later."

Although he felt wronged inside, the director would never dare to publicly question his own boss.

After only a moment's hesitation, he apologized to Samuel with a fawning expression on his face.

Then he glared at Nora irritably.

"Why do you talk so much? If Mr. Green tells you to go get the materials, just go get them! Do you want to keep this job or not?"

Job!

That word hit Nora's weak spot.

She forced herself to swallow the humiliation, walked over to Samuel, and took the pickup address he handed her.

The design materials Samuel wanted were in a private warehouse in the suburbs. The boxes weren't big but were very heavy, and Nora struggled to carry them.

As if even God was deliberately making things difficult for her, on the way back from the suburbs, the taxi she was riding in got stuck on an elevated highway, and a torrential downpour started falling from the sky.

[Where the hell did you go to get some materials? Slacking off on your first day of work, huh?]

[Mr. Green's been asking for you. You have 30 minutes.

Show up or don't bother coming in tomorrow.]

On her phone, the director's constant text messages hit Nora's soul like death sentences, one after another.

"Driver, I need to get out."

In the end, Nora steeled herself, threw one hundred dollars at the taxi driver, and got out of the car with the box.

She knew what was in the box and how important it was. To prevent the contents from getting ruined by the rain, she took off her jacket and covered the box with it.

That day, everyone stuck on the elevated highway saw a woman running frantically through the storm.

The woman was wearing high heels that didn't seem to have good traction. She fell many times along the way, her ankles and arms bruised purple.

But even so, she didn't stop, and every time she fell, she did everything she could to protect the box in her arms.

"Bang!"

Nora's final fall was at the entrance of Bright Tower.

By then, she was soaking wet, her hair plastered to her cheeks, looking as wretched as a beggar.

It was during this fall, as she struggled to get up from the ground, that she saw a pair of finely crafted black leather shoes.

Nora froze, instinctively looking up slowly from those shoes.

Then she saw a tall man. He wasn't wearing a suit jacket, just a white dress shirt with the sleeves casually rolled up, revealing solid muscles.

Seeing her in such a miserable state, the man's eyes seemed to surge with turbulent waves, but when Nora looked carefully, she only saw ice-cold indifference.

"Twenty-eight minutes and thirty-nine seconds. Congratulations, Ms. Brooks. You've managed to keep your job for now."

Samuel raised his arm to check the watch on his wrist, his voice cold and emotionless.

"Mr. Green, here are the materials you wanted."

Nora bit her lower lip and, ignoring her injuries, staggered to her feet and placed the box from her arms in front of him.

The box was wrapped in her clothes—completely dry and undamaged.

But whether it was Nora's imagination or not, after seeing the intact box, Samuel didn't seem happy at all. In fact, he seemed even angrier.

But what was he upset about?

Was he angry that she had protected the box too well, so he couldn't use damage to the box as an excuse to punish her?

Sure enough, he had sent her to get the materials just to humiliate her.

Nora's eyes reddened, and her whole body trembled. God knows how much she wanted to throw the box at Samuel and loudly demand why he was treating her this way.

But if she completely offended Samuel, what would happen to her Mia?

Mia was still so young. She hadn't even had a chance to see the world properly. She couldn't die!

"Mr. Green, can we go to your office now to discuss the revisions to the wedding planning proposal?"

In the end, Nora suppressed the grief and anger raging inside her, lifted her face, and gave Samuel a slightly ingratiating smile.

"Assistant Nelson, take Ms. Brooks to the rest room. Let her take a shower, change into employee clothes, and then come find me in my office."

Samuel didn't look at her directly. After saying this to his assistant Kevin, he strode away.

Kevin Nelson was completely confused.

Wait, could someone tell him when their company got a rest room and employee uniforms?

"Ms. Brooks, please come with me."

After staring at each other in silence for more than ten seconds, Kevin finally took the box from Nora's hands and reluctantly led her into Samuel's rest room.

Then he secretly ordered one of the company receptionists to buy Nora a set of expensive casual wear according to her size.

"This brand isn't cheap, is it?"

When she came out of the rest room after changing, Nora kept examining the tag she'd removed from the clothes.

"Assistant Nelson, your company's employee uniforms don't require employees to pay for them themselves, right?"

"Heh!"

As soon as she finished speaking, before Kevin could respond, a cold snort came from behind her.

Nora turned around abruptly and discovered that Samuel was also at the rest room door, standing just four or five steps away from her.

"Mr. Green!"

Nora's expression changed slightly, and her body involuntarily tensed up.

"What is Ms. Brooks afraid of? So unwilling to see me?"

Samuel walked forward slowly, extended his arm, and effortlessly trapped her between his chest and the hallway wall.

The crisp scent of ebony and cedar lingered at her nose, warm breath spraying on her eyelashes. Nora's heartbeat skipped two beats, and she unconsciously closed her eyes.

"Mr. Green is joking. I'm your employee. It's normal for an employee to be afraid of their boss."

"I see. Then your days ahead won't be easy."

Samuel pressed her shoulders and leaned close to her ear, laughing wickedly twice.

"Ms. Brooks, I discussed it with the planning department director. A multi-talented person like you is wasted in the planning department!"

"Starting now, you're being transferred. Your new position is as my personal secretary, responsible for taking care of my daily life."

His... personal secretary?

Was he joking? He was about to get married, yet he wanted her by his side every day. How was this any different from cutting out her heart with a dull knife?

Nora's face turned deathly pale, and she instinctively wanted to object.

But before she could speak, Samuel spoke again.

"Base monthly salary of thirty thousand dollars. After the three-month probation period, the salary increases by another ten thousand. Two days off per week, triple pay for overtime, and separate allowances for business trips!"

Fine, it was just being a personal secretary. To earn money for Mia's surgery, she could endure this hardship.

Nora's throat moved up and down twice. She pushed Samuel away and gave him a perfunctory smile.

"Thank you for your appreciation, Mr. Green. I hope we'll work well together."
