Chapter 7 Nora, You Are Really Despicable
"Mm..."
When she opened her eyes again, it was already daylight outside.
Nora held her head and looked around, finding herself in a hospital. She seemed to be in a VIP room—there was only one bed in the entire room.
Samuel sat on a sofa not far away, reading documents. Sunlight streamed through the window, falling on his shoulders.
So, was he the person she saw before she passed out?
Nora looked at Samuel, her heart pounding in her chest.
For a moment, she really wanted to rush up to Samuel and ask him about her doubts.
But as she threw back the covers, ready to get up, she froze.
What if the person who saved her at the banquet hall wasn't Samuel? If she rushed over to him like this, Samuel would definitely laugh at her, wouldn't he?
Besides, even if Samuel was the one who saved her, what would that prove?
Samuel and Emily's wedding was already in the works. Him helping her didn't mean he still had feelings for her.
"Seen enough?"
While Nora was lost in thought, a deep voice suddenly reached her ears.
"Mr. Green..."
Nora looked up abruptly, only then noticing that Samuel had already walked to her side.
"What are you doing here?"
She coughed and quickly lowered her head, avoiding Samuel's gaze.
"Lung infection, low immunity, chronic malnutrition!"
Samuel didn't answer her question. With a bang, he threw all the documents in his hand onto her, his tone full of mockery.
"Nora, is your husband useless? How could he let your body get this bad?"
"I..."
Nora picked up the papers that had fallen beside her and glanced at them. Her lips began to tremble uncontrollably.
What Samuel had been reading this whole time was actually her medical records?!
Why was he looking at this?
"Are you mute? Say something!"
Seeing her continued silence, the anger in Samuel's eyes grew. He couldn't help but reach out and grab Nora's neck, forcing her to look at him.
"A man who can't even provide you with a stable life—what use is he to you?"
He was about to marry Emily. How was her life any of his business?
Nora bit her lower lip hard, wanting to push him away and tell him to leave her alone.
But at that moment, the door to her room was suddenly pushed open.
"Uh..."
It was Kevin.
Seeing the scene in the room, he nervously swallowed and hesitated for a long time before saying quietly:
"Mr. Green, Miss Johnson has told your parents about you leaving her alone at the evening party and leaving early with Ms. Brooks! Your father called me and wants you to contact him immediately."
Samuel left Emily alone at the evening party?
What did Kevin mean by that?
Had Samuel really been the one who caught her before she passed out?
Nora's eyes widened.
But he'd already pulled away, his gaze elsewhere.
"Got it."
After saying this, Samuel strode toward the door.
Before leaving, he didn't even look at Nora properly, as if she was someone insignificant to him.
Sure enough, she had overthought it. Samuel had let her go long ago. If he saved her, it was probably just because she was an employee of Bright Capital.
Nora stared blankly at Samuel's retreating figure. After a self-mocking smile, she hugged her blanket and fell back onto the hospital bed.
"Nora, is that really you?"
Not long after she lay down, her room door was pushed open again. This time it was Dr. David who came in.
"I heard from the nurse that you were hospitalized here, so I came to check on you."
Dr. David walked to Nora's bedside and picked up her medical records, glancing through them with a complicated expression.
"Nora, your body functions are already having problems. I suggest you stop all work immediately and rest properly for a while."
"Dr. David, thank you for your advice, but I haven't raised enough money for Mia's medical expenses yet. I don't dare relax."
Nora hugged her blanket with a bitter smile.
"Just working yourself to death to earn money won't solve the problem."
Dr. David looked at her deeply and said in a serious tone: "What you should do now is find Mia's biological father and convince him to have another child with you."
"If you can get bone marrow from Mia's younger brother or sister, Mia can be saved!"
Mia's biological father?
She had already found that person.
But he was about to marry someone else.
Under these circumstances, how could she have the nerve to beg him to have a child with her?
Nora closed her eyes, not knowing how to respond to Dr. David.
"Well, never mind, let's not talk about this now..."
Seeing her pale expression, Dr. David stopped trying to persuade her.
He let out a long sigh and pulled a bank card from his pocket.
"There's two hundred thousand dollars in here, my savings. Although it can't completely solve your problems, it can make life a bit easier for you and Mia."
"Dr. David, you've already helped me so much over the years. I can't take your money."
Nora's eyes reddened as she quickly pushed away the bank card he offered.
"Consider it a loan. When you have money, you can pay me back with interest. That should work, right?"
Dr. David pressed her arm, trying to force the bank card into her palm.
"No..."
Nora shook her head, about to refuse again, but her body was too weak. As she tried to push him away, her body went limp and she fell into Dr. David's arms.
"Nora, are you okay?"
Dr. David was startled and quickly held her shoulders, trying to help her back to bed.
At that moment, a loud crash suddenly came from the doorway.
Nora instinctively looked up and immediately saw Samuel standing at the door with a cold expression.
The air pressure around him was frighteningly low, and a tray lay at his feet.
The tray held meat soup, shrimp, salad, and eggs.
The food clearly had been carefully prepared, specifically for a patient.
But now all the food had fallen to the floor and couldn't be eaten anymore.
"Nora, this man is your husband, right? You like him that much? I just left and you already called him over?"
"If I hadn't come back, what were you two planning to do next?"
"Have sex in the hospital room I'm paying for?"
"Nora, do you know how cheap you are?"
Samuel kicked the tray aside, walked up to Nora, and told her word by word.
"Having dated you makes me feel disgusted."
