Chapter 1 THE BETRAYAL
AURORA
“Carl, please don't do this to me…” I choked on my tears, as the rain poured heavily, drenching me completely.
The burn of the silver dagger pressing against my throat made my heart ache and my fear triple.
“I don't trust you Aurora, you have always been a bane in my existence.” He smirked, pressing the dagger even further. “You have served your purpose, I don't need you anymore.”
“Carl please…I swear, I will keep my mouth shut, I will keep your secret safe, and no one will know. Please don't kill me, I love you…”
Carl laughed, his tone filled with mockery, “Love? You know nothing about love, Aurora. If you knew, you would never have agreed to our marriage.”
I tried to shake my head, but the dagger against my throat made me think otherwise.
“Please…”
EARLIER THAT DAY
“Are the muffins ready?” I asked the chefs as soon as I strolled into the kitchen to check on the preparations.
“Yes, Luna Aurora, freshly baked and piping hot.”
“Hmm, I like the sound of that. Keep up the good work.” I smiled, happily striding out of the kitchen.
The dining room was already spectacularly decorated just as I liked. The beautiful rosy theme matched the Valentine's holiday perfectly.
“A perfect period to celebrate the love of my life.” I giggled at my words and skidded off to my bedroom, needing to change before he got back.
My outfit for tonight was already laid out on my bed, a red mid-length dress, gold strappy heels, and a handbag. All of which are Carl's favourite colors.
I strolled off to the side, stopping before the nightstand, I pulled the drawer open and took out the envelope I had hidden there for the past three days.
Sliding out the documents I had received days ago, my heart fluttered in my chest, a sense of satisfaction settling over me.
Tears welled up in my eyes as my gaze rested on my stomach. I dropped my pregnancy result on the nightstand and moved to the mirror, smoothing my maxi dress to see the not-yet-existing bump on my stomach.
“After three long years, you are finally here, Princess. The wait is over, and I really cannot wait to tell your father.” I pursed my lips, wiping the tears that fell on my face.
Carl is going to be thrilled, the best birthday surprise he is ever going to receive.
I strode back to the nightstand, returning the document to the safety of my drawer, before plunging into my bed.
I picked up my phone from the bed, aiming to text him again, he promised to be home by 7pm and that was only 12 minutes away.
“Carl, where are you?” I texted, smiling sheepishly as I waited for a response,Dera my wolf moved around the back of my mind, her happiness didn't top mine, but it was there.
Typing… it read. “I am sorry my love, I don't think I will be able to make it tonight. The Chief Council is holding an important meeting for the Alphas tonight and I can't miss it.”
“What?!” I gasped, my shoulders dropping.
“I am sorry my love, I promise to come by tomorrow.” He added, but my heart had already sunk deep.
Today, of all days, the council chose to ruin my plans. Today was supposed to be our day, Carl’s birthday, and the mark of our third year in marriage. Today was supposed to be as memorable as the others have been. How could this happen?
I slumped on my bed, my heart heavy, and my mind drained. I gave it my all today, preparing everything Carl loves, just to see him happy.
“Okay babe, I will see you tomorrow.” I texted a reply, before tossing the phone on the bed.
I heaved a sigh, burying my face in my palm, disappointed was the least word I could use to describe my feelings.
This was the first time in three years he was missing his birthday and our anniversary. Days like this are the best I get of him.
Carl is supportive, kind, handsome, and the best husband I could ever ask for, the only problem we have is his duty as Alpha. On the most important days, he misses out because of pack duties. It's always so frustrating because he refuses to let me help.
He's so hardworking, and selfless, and sometimes it hurts to see him like that. He's simply the best,he has always been right from the very beginning, I had an instant crush on him as we developed into childhood friends. The immense joy in my heart when my father announced we were betrothed.
A smile subconsciously spread across my face, recalling the happiest day of my life, our wedding day.
“I still have to celebrate ,my husband, all I have to do is reschedule.
Ding!
I rose instinctively, my gaze landing on my phone. I grabbed it, hoping to see a text from him changing his mind.
Except it wasn't, but rather an unknown number. I tapped it open and it read; BC street, first penthouse. Come alone if you want to see your husband alive.”
My phone fell out of my hand as they trembled from the instant fear that gripped my soul.
“Carl…” I swallowed, but my throat only tightened, lungs aching as I tried to breathe.
“Carl…” I gasped, “My husband is in danger.”
I jumped off the bed, grabbed my phone, and sprinted out of the room. Getting off the stairs, one of the chefs approached me, “Luna Aurora, the dining table is…”
“Clear the table, have the staff feast on everything, I will be back soon,” I said hastily, not stopping for a second.
I got to my car and drove out of the building at great speed.
Bc street! Bc street! Bc street!
I kept repeating the address in my head, glancing at the directions on the map. I tried not to think about the situation ,I couldn't imagine Carl getting hurt. My heart wouldn't take it.
30 minutes later, I pulled up at the Bc street, following the instructions, at the first penthouse.
I got out of my car and hurried to the gate, it was open, saving me from having to knock. Sprinting to the door, I found it open, lights on.
I swallowed my spew and dashed right in, my senses flying out the door. “Carl!” I yelled, running up the stairs.
I didn't know which way to go, so I turned to my phone, aiming to message the unknown number and inform them of my arrival at the penthouse, but then…
“Fuck Carl…”
The words seeped into my heart, sounding like a moan. My fingers froze against my phone, beads of sweat rising on my forehead.
I moved forward, my steps slow, my body hesitant.
“Yes Carl…Yes…”
More sounds of moaning filled my ears, and my heart stopped beating for a second. I shook my head, refusing to believe this is real.
Carl is in danger, maybe someone's playing a fake audio to plant a fake narrative and keep me from reaching Carl, but I won't let that happen, I need to save him.
With that thought I raced towards the room the sound was coming from, pushing the door open, paralysis struck me in the shade of shock, Dera, my wolf winced, her pain blending in with mine almost immediately.
My husband was on his knees, another man's dick plunged deep into his mouth. And it wasn't just any man…
It was John…my brother.
