Chapter 7 What do you guys want?
In the car, the two of them were silent. Ziven focused on driving, occasionally glancing at Nixie, who didn’t look at him at all. Whether she was angry or not, Ziven didn’t know. But in the middle of what happened earlier, he felt like he was about to lose control, so he chose to stop before he ended up hurting her.
Meanwhile, Nixie, still embarrassed, kept staring out the window, trying to get used to it. Because later they might do more than that. Nixie was also grateful that Ziven still had limits, even though she knew that a man’s desire was far greater than a woman’s.
The journey was quite long because they had to cut through the forest. Nixie couldn’t even believe there would be a huge house in the forest behind this.
Nixie had also changed into casual black clothes. The pretty girl deliberately left her hair down because there were red marks on her neck.
The orange hue of the sky that afternoon was so beautiful. It made Nixie keep staring in awe. If only the monsters were gone and the earth was like it used to be, maybe they would be very happy.
20 minutes passed and finally they arrived at one of the biggest supermarkets in the city.
“Sorry about earlier!” That soft words made Nixie turn to him.
“Sorry for what?”
“Sorry for being too hasty? We haven’t even signed the work contract yet!”
Nixie smiled. “Forget it! Besides, that’s part of being a Guide. I don’t mind! We should shop quickly and then buy some snacks outside!”
Ziven just nodded at her casual words. Whether it was because of work or gratitude, what Nixie said was meant to comfort him.
They went inside. For years he hadn’t experienced his normal life again, like what they were doing now. Fresh food was available in full there, which naturally made Nixie’s smile widen.
But when she saw the outrageous price list, the girl with the heart necklace stared straight ahead, eyes wide in shock. “These prices don’t make any sense!”
“Our food supplies are imported from other cities by air, miss! So the cost is lives,” said a clerk suddenly, walking toward them in a friendly manner. Even so, many people were buying groceries casually, which made Nixie wonder how much money they had just for real food like this?
The smile the clerk gave made Nixie feel like he was silently saying, if you don’t have money, don’t come here! She felt like she was being scolded indirectly.
Not long after, Ziven handed her a black card. “Use this! Buy whatever you want!”
“But the prices are ridiculous. Even if you have a lot of money, you could go bankrupt in an instant?!”
“Rather than die?” Nixie was silent for a few seconds, then she picked out groceries without thinking twice. Whether it was too much or too little, she didn’t care anymore. Considering how far it was, if it could last a week she was already grateful.
It took Nixie quite a while to choose, until she reached a box of red apples that looked very sweet. A moment later she felt someone touch her back.
Nixie turned, thinking maybe Ziven needed something. The next second she was shocked to see Keira smiling at her.
“Keira?!”
Nixie spontaneously hugged her old friend, missing her. Even though it had only been yesterday since they last met, it felt like forever.
“What are you buying, Nixie? And who’s that beside you?” Keira asked, smiling teasingly.
“He’s my Esper. I’m buying groceries for us!”
Keira let go of the hug and looked Ziven up and down. The man, now silent, stared at Keira strangely. But then Nixie’s friend immediately stepped back with a curious expression.
“What level is he?”
“I can’t say that here!” Nixie replied, afraid that if she said it, this girl would make a scene and everyone would know. That Ziven was an Sss+ level Esper, who they considered dangerous.
“Why? Oh, are you afraid I’ll take him from you?” Keira teased, but that made Nixie shake her head quickly.
“Better help me shop!” Nixie said, immediately pulling Keira’s hand. Meanwhile, Ziven chose to go outside to get some fresh air.
The streets were quite busy today. Many cars were passing by and some people chose to walk. Ziven watched it all with no expression. So this was what life was like — this busy with their normal activities.
A loud roaring sound in the sky made Ziven look up. Several people also stopped, startled and scared. But soon everything went back to normal because they knew there were heroes called Espers who would protect the city with all their heart.
While focused, several Espers walking casually realized that the hospital’s prisoner had gotten out of his cage. “Hey, who do we see here? Is this the very dangerous Sss+ level Esper? Did you just escape from the hospital, Mr. Ziven?”
Ziven glanced at the young man who was laughing mockingly at him, but the stoic man didn’t care. He had to get ready for the border tomorrow. It seemed they were getting close to the city.
Seeing that Ziven didn’t respond made the three of them unhappy. “So what if he’s Sss+ level? We can beat him. Three against one, you’ll definitely lose!”
“Are you crazy? I don’t want to. If he loses control, not only us will die but the whole city too,” one of them replied, scared.
“Coward. Right now his power is probably weak because he’s outside. Who knows, maybe in the next fight we’ll be the ones getting the world’s attention!” said one of them confidently.
Suddenly they were confronted with the handle of a black statue by a very beautiful brown-haired girl, complete with a heart necklace accessory that made them freeze. “Who are you?”
That sharp remark made them blink a few times to process it, until one of them stepped forward arrogantly. “You’re a level A Esper! Who are you?”
Keira, now blocking the three of them with an equally arrogant look. “You guys are supposed to be saving the world but you act like losers. You should be heading to the border right now! Are you deaf to that monster’s sound? Or do you just enjoy bullying the weak?”
“Tch. Weak humans like you dare to go against Espers like us? Remember, without us, humans would be wiped off the face of the earth!”
“And if there were no Guides, you wouldn’t survive those monsters either!” Nixie said, now stepping forward bravely. “I’m his Guide. What are you gonna do about it?!”
