Chapter 3 Chapter 3: Staying at My Ex-Husband’s Brother’s House
Selena knew Mrs. Collin didn’t want to owe anyone, but she wasn’t some outsider—she was her own daughter.
Wyatt sat nearby, listening to their conversation, feeling utterly useless. He snuck a glance at Selena, then blushed and lowered his head, silently vowing to become successful so he could protect and take care of this beautiful sister.
…
After convincing Mrs. Collin, Selena sold two precious stones, bought a house in the capital, and arranged for a fake identity for herself.
She was no longer the timid, weak Selena Collin but the vengeful Selena Taylor. Her next step was to devise a plan to bring misery to her ex-husband’s family and that first love of his.
Selena glanced at her phone screen. Displayed was information on Balthazar Winchester, chairman of Winning Edge Enterprises, and coincidentally… Amelia Torres’s ex-boyfriend.
She had heard that three months after she went missing, William Sterling—her ex-husband—had unilaterally divorced her and married his first love, Amelia Torres. But Selena knew Amelia Torres could never forget her ex-boyfriend, and as fate would have it, Balthazar Winchester was now William Sterling’s biggest rival.
After ten years in Heaven, the thing she had perfected most was the art of seducing men, making them fall madly in love with her. She could only imagine how insane Amelia Torres would become once the man she loved turned his attention to Selena.
“Hey, miss, why are you standing here? The wind’s strong; you might catch a cold.”
Suddenly, a young man’s voice interrupted her thoughts. Selena turned to see a familiar face.
The young man rushed over and draped his coat over Selena’s shoulders, saying:
“It’s late, why are you still…”
Mid-sentence, he froze, staring at Selena in disbelief. He had never seen anyone so beautiful before.
“Are you an angel?” - The young man mumbled.
Selena smiled softly, reaching out to gently cup the young man’s chin. In her mind, she thought, “Got you, little brother-in-law.”
This young man was named Keith, the younger brother of Selena’s ex-husband. As she looked at the man standing before her, an unconscious memory of all he had done to her crept into her mind.
When she had been married into her husband’s family, he had constantly used her appearance as a target for bullying and ridicule, calling her an old, fat woman, a stupid fool... Countless cruel insults, none of which a younger brother should ever hurl at his sister-in-law.
There were even times when he deliberately pushed her to the ground and poured water over her, leaving her completely humiliated, and yet, in the end, it was she who was scolded by her mother-in-law and husband, not the culprit.
Selena had no affection whatsoever for Keith. This time, upon her return, he was one of the people on her list for revenge. When her husband and his first love rekindled their romance, Keith had been the first to openly support their affair. Not only that, but he even planned to have her thrown into a brothel so his brother could marry his sugar baby with ease.
Since he had been so cruel, she could not be blamed for being merciless in return. And now, it seemed that he had developed a bit of a crush on her.
At this moment, Selena’s finger was still resting on Keith’s chin. He was already blushing with embarrassment, stammering as he asked:
“Um… excuse me, miss..."
Selena withdrew her finger, her thoughts snapping back to the present. She could clearly see the disappointment on Keith’s face. She gave a faint smile and said:
“I thought you looked familiar, like someone I used to know."
Keith hurriedly waved his hands:
“No… no worries, but I’m sure you and I have never met before. If I had known someone as beautiful as you, I would never have forgotten."
“Is that so? Well, it’s better that we don’t know each other."
With that, Selena handed Keith his jacket and turned to leave. He quickly chased after her and asked:
“Where are you going? It’s dangerous for a woman to be out alone at night. Let me give you a ride."
Selena kept walking, replying:
“No need."
Even though she was indifferent, Keith didn’t give up. He kept following her, asking:
“Is there anything I can help you with?"
Selena stopped, then turned to look at him and said:
“I need money. Give me some."
She wasn’t asking to borrow it, nor was she begging—she was demanding it outright. Her blunt demand left Keith flustered for a moment.
Selena turned and continued walking. Keith, regaining his senses, hurried after her. As he walked, he pulled out a wad of cash from his wallet and handed it to her.
“I only have five hundred thousand dollars in cash. Wait here for a bit, there’s an ATM nearby. I’ll withdraw more for you."
Selena stopped. Keith let out a breath, surprised that his stamina couldn’t match hers. She looked completely fine, while he was out of breath.
“If you don’t hurry and get the money, I’m leaving."
Hearing this, Keith sprinted to the ATM, withdrawing two hundred thousand dollar, which was all his weekly allowance. He returned and handed it to Selena.
She accepted it without hesitation. Just as she was about to hail a taxi and leave, Keith grabbed her hand and asked:
“Where are you going? Didn’t I just give you the money?"
Selena frowned and removed his hand, saying:
“What, do you want me to sleep with you to pay off the debt?"
Keith’s face instantly turned crimson. He stammered:
“No... I… I just wanted to know where you’re staying, how to contact you."
Selena looked down for a moment before replying:
“I don’t have a phone at the moment. I’m planning to rent a place. Once I’m settled, I’ll pay you back."
When Keith heard that she had no place to stay, his eyes widened in shock. How could such a beautiful woman be wandering the streets without a home? Could it be that she had just escaped from human traffickers?
Thinking this, he grabbed her hand without a word and pulled her toward his car. After stuffing her into the seat, he said:
“Don’t worry, I’ll take you to a safe place."
Without waiting for her response, he climbed into the seat beside her.
“Take us to the apartment near my school," Keith told his driver.
