Chapter 4

The luxurious villa had a spacious master bedroom.

Lana Reed was curled up on the silk sheets.

Her face was pale, like paper.

When she saw Ethan Vance, her tears flowed like a broken dam.

The once fierce woman now looked fragile.

“Honey, my belly hurts so much...”

“Is our baby going to be okay?”

“Please, save our baby.”

Ethan Vance knelt beside the bed.

He carefully wiped away her tears.

“Don’t worry. I’m here. Our baby will be fine.”

Then he turned to Claire and shouted sharply:

“What are you waiting for?”

“Come and see what’s wrong with Lana.”

Claire watched them with cold fingers.

But her professionalism prevented her from leaving.

There was another room in the villa equipped with all kinds of medical instruments.

She looked at the fetus on the ultrasound screen.

It was still tiny, but full of vitality.

“The fetus is fine. It’s just a bit unstable due to emotional fluctuations.”

“No major emotional stress from now on.”

“Rest for the next three months, sitting or lying down.”

Years of professional training allowed Claire to make an accurate diagnosis.

Ethan Vance carefully picked up Lana Reed and placed her on the bed in the master bedroom.

“Did you hear that? No more running around.”

Lana Reed suddenly pointed at Claire.

“I want her. As my personal servant.”

“She knows medicine and can take care of me.”

The air seemed to freeze.

Ethan Vance frowned.

“She has a full-time job.”

“I don’t care. I want her!”

Lana Reed pouted in a spoiled manner.

“I want her to guarantee our child’s safety.”

“If something happens to my child, I’ll make her pay.”

Claire suddenly laughed bitterly.

How ironic.

She had to serve her husband’s current wife.

If something happened to her, she might face severe punishment.

“No way.”

Claire spoke coldly, turning to leave, but heard the chilling voice from behind.

“Your father’s necklace.”

“Don’t you want it?”

Ethan Vance’s voice came from behind her.

Claire froze.

That necklace was made with her father’s ashes.

It was the only memento her father had left for her.

When they got married, she had given it to Zane Lane as her most precious gift.

Zane swore that he would keep it well.

His promises had all turned into jokes.

He said he would never change.

But he had another wife.

He said he would treat her well, but he was the one who hurt her the most.

He promised to take care of her necklace...

Ethan approached her, his voice extremely low.

“I’ll give it back to you if the baby stabilizes.”

Claire didn’t dare look back at the heartless man.

She was afraid that in his eyes, she would see her own broken reflection.

His cruelty was something she had witnessed.

But she couldn’t let go of that necklace.

She clenched her fists and took a deep breath.

“Fine. I hope you keep your word.”

The fetus usually stabilized in three months, besides her immigration procedures were still being processed. She had no choice but to agree.

Lana Reed smiled smugly.

Claire turned and took the stethoscope.

She listened to the baby’s heartbeat in Lana’s belly.

Thump-thump, thump-thump.

Strong and healthy, Claire felt a slight relief.

Ethan Vance gently stroked Lana’s forehead.

He unbuttoned his shirt and revealed his collarbone.

Beneath it, there once was a tattoo.

Before their marriage, Zane Lane had tattooed the letter ‘L’ on her, symbolizing her surname.

But now, the ‘L’ had been erased.

As soon as he regained his memory, he couldn’t wait to erase all the traces of their love.
