Chapter 6

Claire Lane reluctantly picked up the dress and headed to the Vance family’s FY Hotel.

She stood at the door of the lounge.

Just as she was about to knock, the door to the lounge automatically opened slightly.

Ethan Vance sat on the sofa, and Lana Reed straddled his waist.

Their bodies were pressed tightly together.

Ethan Vance’s throat bobbed, and his voice sounded hoarse.

“Sweetheart, don’t tease me. You’re pregnant. Do you want to kill me? You little temptress.”

“Humph, just thinking about you with that bitch Claire makes me angry!”

“I had an accident and lost my memory, that’s why I was with her.”

“But you were with her.”

“Since I regained my memory, I haven’t touched her. I’ve kept myself pure for you. Really, you have to believe me.”

“Lana, she means nothing to me. The only one I love is you. From now on, I’ll never see her again.”

Ethan Vance’s face flushed red, his body trembling lightly.

But Lana Reed wasn’t done with him yet.

Her hands were still moving deliberately.

“Sweetheart, I’m worried about the baby. I won’t go in, just let me touch you outside!”

Though Claire Lane knew it, hearing it from his own mouth still hurt immensely.

Her face turned pale from the heartbreak.

In every aspect, it was clear he respected and cherished Lana Reed.

But when he was with Claire, he was reckless, taking whatever he wanted whenever he wanted.

Never considering her feelings, never asking for her consent.

The difference between love and indifference was so obvious.

Sometimes, he would spend the whole night using her to release his pent-up energy.

When she couldn’t take it anymore, he would explain it away saying:

“Claire, I’m sorry. It’s because I love you so much.”

“As soon as I touch you, I can’t stop. When I smell your scent, all I can think about is that.”

“I really love you to death!”

Back then, she believed him. She thought that was how love showed itself.

No wonder there’s a saying that love is restraint, but infatuation is reckless.

So, the person he truly loved was Lana Reed.

“Fine then.”

Ethan Vance allowed Lana Reed to sit on him.

Underneath her, his voice groaned with eager.

“Who’s better in bed, me or her?”

“Of course, it’s you, Sweetheart. My heart and body only love you. If you weren’t pregnant, I would’ve made you unable to get out of bed. As for her, there’s no passion in bed. How could she be as charming as you, baby girl?”

“When will you let her become my personal maid again?”

Claire’s body stiffened, her blood seemingly freezing.

Her fingertips tingled slightly.

She stood still, biting her lip tightly.

Until the blood taste filled her mouth.

She suddenly felt sick.

She placed the dress in the outer room and went to the bathroom.

Bending over, she vomited violently.

But only acid came out.

As she vomited, tears began to flow.

The man she had truly loved.

Was now degrading her like this.

She splashed cold water onto her face.

This way, no one would see the tears on her face.

In the banquet hall, Lana Reed walked in, holding Ethan Vance’s arm.

The skirt of the dress brushed over Claire’s foot.

"Thank you for coming to witness our happiness."

Lana Reed sweetly smiled and reached her hand out to Claire.

Under the gaze of the crowd, Claire had no way to avoid it.

Lana Reed’s sharp nails dug into the back of Claire’s hand.

Ethan Vance’s cold eyes swept over her, as if she was a stranger.

On the stage, the VCR showing Ethan Vance and Lana Reed’s love story began to play.

The fifth anniversary commemorative film.

It turned out they were childhood sweethearts, a perfect match from well-off families.

They had known each other since they were little, grew up together.

They had been engaged since childhood.

From this angle, she was indeed the ‘mistress’.

Or perhaps a thief, who had stolen two years of their married life.

When the first photo appeared, Claire’s breath caught.

It was the seaside restaurant where Ethan Vance had proposed to Lana Reed.

Zane Lane had once taken her there.

The restaurant was very expensive, and a single meal would cost three months of her savings.

"One day, I’ll take you there every year."

He really did take her there every year, but only with his real wife.

Guests saw the sweet photos of them.

The valuable gifts they gave each other, and couldn’t help but whisper among themselves.

"My god, what kind of divine love is this! Five years of marriage, and still so sweet."

"Mr. Vance really spoils Lana Reed. She wanted stars, so he bought her several stars and named them after her. She wanted the moon, so the designer created several moon-themed necklaces, earrings, and rings..."

"I heard Lana Reed is pregnant, but not yet three months along, so it hasn’t been publicly announced."

"Then what? Lana Reed will only be more doted. I bet Mr. Vance will carry her to the bathroom, huh?"

Guests whispered to each other.

Lana Reed leaned against Ethan Vance’s chest.

Ethan Vance bent down to adjust the veil matching her dress.

Claire could still hear the murmurs in her ears.

"One year, for Lana Reed’s birthday… Mr. Vance booked an entire sea area for fireworks… I heard it cost eight million…"

"There’s almost nothing that Lana Reed wants that she can’t get in this world."

"She’s really lucky. We can just envy."

Claire stared blankly at the champagne glass.

It felt like she was in a dream world she had never seen before.

But this dream world was hurtful.

When they were poor, they had made many promises.

For example, dining at the most expensive Western restaurant, renting an amusement park, booking private movie screenings…

For example, going to see pink dolphins, watching the sunset in the Aegean Sea, visiting Provence to see lavender fields...

It turned out, he had done all of this with Lana Reed.

‘Zane Lane’ really did have money now.

But his life had nothing to do with her anymore.

Claire stood in the most hidden corner.

Gradually tightening her grip, the champagne glass suddenly shattered.

Glass pierced into Claire’s palm.

Blood burst out.

Luckily, no one noticed.

All the eyes were focused on the stage.

Ethan Vance knelt on one knee.

He helped Lana Reed put on the crystal high heels.

The shoes were encrusted with tiny diamonds.

"My dear, happy fifth anniversary."

He stood up and kissed her passionately.

The applause in the banquet hall was deafening.

When Claire turned, she bumped into the rose archway.

Flower petals rained down, like the tears of a person who had been left behind.

Lana Reed’s laughter rang out:

"In the next five years... we’re going to have three babies..."
