Chapter 4 Are You Pregnant?
"Got it."
As soon as she finished speaking, Aurora hung up the phone.
"Why are you going back there? The Knight family estate is nothing but trouble. Especially your mother-in-law—she looks down on everyone. She's never given you a proper look. Going there just means getting treated badly."
Scarlett said, her tone full of dissatisfaction.
"Grandpa wants to see me. It wouldn't be right not to go."
Among all the people in the Knight family, Grandpa Knight was the one who treated her best. He truly cared for her like a granddaughter, and Aurora didn't want to disappoint the old man.
At seven o'clock that evening, Aurora arrived right on time at the Knight family estate entrance.
Oliver's car was already parked there.
He was leaning against the car, wearing a black suit, his face dark.
Seeing Aurora walking over, he let out a cold snort.
"Get in."
The Knight family estate covered a large area.
Although this was the estate entrance, there was still quite a distance to where people actually lived.
Outsiders' cars couldn't drive in, and walking would take quite a while.
Since Oliver was willing to wait for her, Aurora wasn't going to make herself suffer. She opened the car door and sat in the back seat.
Oliver sat in the driver's seat, coldly glancing at Aurora, then drove without saying a word. The atmosphere in the car was so oppressive it was suffocating.
The car drove all the way into the Knight family estate. Aurora and Oliver each got out and walked into the living room together.
Grandpa Knight was sitting on the sofa reading the newspaper. Seeing them come in, he quickly put down the paper, his face breaking into a smile as he waved them over.
"Good, good, Oliver, you're back. Come sit down."
Aurora walked over first and called out "Grandpa." Oliver followed with his greeting.
Just then, Oliver's mother Grace came out of the kitchen carrying a plate of fruit.
Seeing Aurora, the smile on her face instantly faded, her tone distant. "You're back."
Aurora nodded and called out "Mom." Grace didn't respond, but Aurora didn't care.
As long as they kept up appearances, that was enough.
Grace put the fruit on the table and plopped down next to Grandpa Knight. Her eyes deliberately swept over Aurora with a critical look, as if examining something unpleasant.
Grandpa Knight was holding Aurora's hand, looking her up and down.
"Good, good, have you lost weight recently? Is Oliver bullying you? If he dares bully you, you tell Grandpa, and Grandpa will stand up for you."
Before Aurora could answer, Grace let out a cold snort and spoke sarcastically.
"Dad, how would Oliver dare bully her? She's such a busy person! Married for three years and can't even have a child, just knows how to run around outside all day."
Aurora's expression cooled slightly, but she didn't respond.
Over these years, she'd gotten used to Grace's sarcasm. If she really argued with her, it would only put Grandpa Knight in a difficult position.
Grandpa Knight glared at Grace. "Say less. It's good that she's busy with her career. Better than people who do nothing all day."
Grace was indirectly criticized by Grandpa Knight. Though unhappy, she didn't dare say more, but her expression grew even uglier.
On the living room sofa, Grandpa Knight chatted with Aurora until the maid brought the food to the table. Grace found an excuse and pulled Grandpa Knight toward the dining table.
A rich spread of dishes filled most of the table, making one's mouth water just looking at it.
Grandpa Knight picked up his fork and symbolically took a bite, then everyone else started eating.
Just then, the butler brought over a bowl of creamy clam chowder and placed it in front of Aurora.
Seeing this, Grandpa smiled and said, "Here, drink more. Grandpa specially had the kitchen make this for you. It's good for your health."
Aurora looked at the soup. A strong fishy seafood smell instantly hit her nose.
She immediately felt her stomach churning, nausea rising in her throat.
Without time to say anything, Aurora quickly covered her mouth and rushed to the bathroom, bending over to dry heave.
The atmosphere in the dining room instantly changed, with everyone's eyes on Aurora.
Grace's eyes held some suspicion, Grandpa Knight frowned, and Oliver's eyes were ice cold, thinking who knows what.
Aurora retched for quite a while before she recovered.
The butler promptly handed her a glass of warm water.
She took it and drank a sip, her tone slightly apologetic. "I'm sorry, Grandpa. I've let down your kindness. I didn't mean to, I just suddenly felt uncomfortable."
Looking at Aurora's pale face, a thought suddenly arose in Grandpa Knight's mind.
"Child, are you pregnant?"
He asked directly. Aurora's heart instantly sank.
Counting back, her period was indeed over half a month late.
Before, because of the cornea and divorce matters, she hadn't paid attention to it.
Now that Grandpa mentioned it, combined with the dry heaving just now, Aurora couldn't help but wonder.
Grace rolled her eyes from the side, making snide remarks.
"She's been married for three years with no news. How could she suddenly be pregnant? I think she's pretending on purpose, trying to use a child to trap Oliver."
Grandpa Knight glared at her and said sternly, "Shut up! Send someone to buy a pregnancy test."
Whether it was real or not, this matter needed to be confirmed. They couldn't just watch Aurora keep dry heaving!
The driver moved quickly and soon returned with a pregnancy test.
Under the watchful eyes of the whole family, Aurora, embarrassed, took the pregnancy test and walked into the bathroom, her heart full of mixed feelings.
A few minutes later, she came out of the bathroom.
Everyone's eyes fell on her in unison, with Grandpa Knight especially full of anticipation.
"Good girl, tell Grandpa, are you pregnant?"
Those with sharp eyes had already seen the two red lines on the pregnancy test.
Aurora nodded and showed the two red lines.
In this situation, it was impossible for her to hide the pregnancy.
Grandpa Knight slapped his thigh and laughed heartily.
"Good, good, good! The Knight family finally has a new child! Good girl, you're truly a great contributor to the Knight family."
Grace's face turned pale and flushed alternately. Looking at the red lines on the pregnancy test, she couldn't speak for a long time.
Oliver stood on the other side, his eyes full of shock and a trace of barely noticeable complexity.
He had never thought Aurora would get pregnant, especially at a time like this.
The rest of the meal, everyone ate with different thoughts, until Grandpa Knight couldn't hold on anymore. He pulled Aurora aside and chatted endlessly before finally letting them leave separately.
On the way back, the atmosphere in the car was even more oppressive than before.
"Aurora, you did this on purpose, didn't you!"
After the car left the Knight family estate area, Oliver slammed on the brakes, stopping the car by the roadside. He turned to look at Aurora, his eyes full of coldness.
"You knew Grandpa was hoping for a great-grandchild, knew I wouldn't disregard Grandpa's feelings, so you faked a pregnancy, trying to use a child to keep me, trying to stay in the Knight family. Aurora, how can your mind be so vicious?"
Their eyes met, his filled with resentment.
