Chapter 5 I Am Pregnant
Aurora looked up in shock, meeting Oliver's gaze directly.
The coldness in his eyes cut into Aurora's heart like a knife.
"Faking a pregnancy? Using a child to keep me?" Aurora laughed coldly. "Oliver, aren't you thinking too highly of yourself, and overestimating how much this child means to me?"
She leaned back against the seat, turning her head to look at the dark night outside the window. When she spoke, her voice was light and distant.
"I never planned to keep this child anyway, so you don't need to worry about my hidden motives."
Aurora deliberately emphasized the words "hidden motives," as if slapping Oliver hard across the face.
Oliver froze for a moment. The anger in his eyes faded somewhat, leaving only confusion and bewilderment.
There was even a hint of panic that he himself hadn't noticed.
He stared at Aurora's profile, seeing her jawline tense and her back rigid.
"Are you serious?"
Facing his doubt, Aurora nodded.
"Oliver, we've already signed the divorce papers. This child should never have existed in the first place. I won't use a child to tie you down, and I don't want him born into a broken family, becoming an obstacle between you and Claire, or a burden on my future life."
Aurora's words were crystal clear, and each one hammered at Oliver's heart.
Seeing her resolute expression, the anger in Oliver's heart surged again, but was suppressed by some inexplicable emotion, with nowhere to vent.
Oliver had thought Aurora was doing all this to keep the child.
Turns out she didn't want it at all!
"Fine. I'll pick you up at eight tomorrow morning to go to the hospital for the procedure."
Holding back his frustration, Oliver didn't waste words and set the time directly.
Without waiting for Aurora to respond, Oliver started the car and dropped her off once they reached the city.
Watching Oliver drive away, Aurora touched her still-flat stomach with a sense of loss, then hailed a cab back to Scarlett's place.
When Scarlett saw Aurora return looking upset, she rushed over.
"Hey, did that jerk upset you again? Don't worry, we're divorcing him anyway, so we don't have to take his crap!"
Aurora leaned against the hallway wall to take off her shoes, shaking her head wearily.
"Scarlett, I'm pregnant."
"What?"
Scarlett was stunned by her words, standing frozen for a long moment before reacting, her face full of shock.
"So what are you going to do now?"
She didn't press for details, directly asking about Aurora's plans.
"I'm not keeping it. I've already agreed with him that tomorrow we'll go to the hospital for tests, and then schedule the procedure."
She looked up, forcing a slight smile at Scarlett.
"But your health..."
Scarlett frowned, looking at her with concern.
"You've worn yourself out working these past few years. If you go through with this, will there be any complications?"
"Whether there are or not, I can't keep it." Aurora's attitude was firm. "Oliver and I are done, so this child shouldn't exist, especially not at a time like this."
Seeing her determination, Scarlett didn't try to persuade her further, just patted her shoulder gently. "Let me know if you need anything."
"Thanks."
The two exchanged a smile and went to their rooms to rest.
Early the next morning, Oliver's car was already waiting downstairs at Scarlett's building.
Aurora wasn't surprised he knew where she was staying. She opened the car door and got in.
The two remained silent throughout the drive.
At the hospital, the various tests proceeded in an orderly manner.
Oliver stayed by Aurora's side the whole time, making sure she wasn't playing tricks.
Aurora sat in the waiting area, her fingers unconsciously rubbing the hem of her clothes, her heart a jumble of emotions.
Oliver sat beside her, his gaze occasionally falling on her stomach, his eyes complicated.
A phone suddenly rang. Oliver checked the caller, nodded at Aurora, and walked to the other side.
Just then, Aurora's name was called, so she walked into the doctor's office alone.
"Ms. Sinclair, according to the test results, you're about five weeks pregnant. If you don't want the child, this is indeed a good time for the procedure."
The doctor pushed up his gold-rimmed glasses, his expression serious.
"However, your uterine wall is very thin, much thinner than normal. It's already difficult to get pregnant with this condition. If you terminate this pregnancy, your chances of conceiving again will be extremely low, possibly even resulting in permanent infertility."
The doctor's words struck Aurora like thunder.
She stood frozen, her face pale, the report in her hand crumpled into a ball.
Permanent infertility?
These words pressed down on her like a boulder, making it hard to breathe.
She had never imagined her body was in such terrible condition.
"Doctor, is there no way to fix this?"
Facing her question, the doctor didn't give a definitive answer, but the regret in his tone was clear.
"This pregnancy is lucky for you. But if you forcibly terminate it, the damage to your uterus will be irreversible."
Aurora's mind went blank, her ears ringing.
Before she could speak, the doctor's office door was suddenly pushed open. Oliver stood outside, his face dark.
Without a word, he came in, grabbed Aurora's hand, and pulled her out.
The doctor couldn't understand what was happening between them, but shook his head without bothering to ask.
The two struggled all the way to a corner in the hospital corridor, where Oliver released her hand.
"Aurora, you're something else. Now you're even using the sympathy card."
Few people came here. The two faced off as Oliver spoke with mockery in his voice.
"Terminating the pregnancy causes infertility? Ha! If you think this will make me keep you, forget it!"
Aurora's wrist hurt from being pulled. Coming back to her senses and hearing his words, her face immediately turned cold.
Oliver thought she was acting, trying to gain sympathy!
But she wasn't!
"I'm not planning to stay, and I'm not planning to keep this child. I had no idea my body was like this."
"You didn't? Ha."
Oliver laughed coldly, clearly convinced she was being two-faced.
He checked his watch and pulled Aurora outside.
On the way back, the two remained silent.
Oliver's phone suddenly rang, with "Claire" flashing on the screen.
His brow twitched hard as he quickly stopped the car to answer.
Claire's crying voice came through, sounding panicked.
"Oliver, where are you? I got into a car accident on the suburban highway. The front of my car is smashed, and my arm really hurts."
As soon as Claire spoke, Oliver immediately made Aurora get out of the car.
"Claire, I'm coming now."
Aurora stood still. "I'm not feeling well. Can you take me back?"
Oliver was impatient. "Stop making a fuss."
The moment he finished speaking, the car sped away.
