Chapter 2

David

David watched as Daniel pulled back a bit, “Hi, I'm Daniel. And you are even more beautiful in person than you were in my dreams.” He reached out like he was going to pull her from his brother’s arms and David felt Stormy freeze.

“You don't know how glad I am that I found you.” He said while David growled. “I don’t even know your name,” Daniel said as he moved close enough to kiss her. Stormy flinched and clung to David, who reached up and pushed Daniel’s face away.

“Her name is Stormy,” David said. “And she is my mate, and your queen.” He could hear his own irritation in his voice. It was one thing to share a one-night stand with his brother in the folly of their youth, but it was something totally different to have Daniel claim his fated mate.

“I can see that, I’m not stupid.” Daniel looked up at the ceiling for a second and then shrugged. He glanced back at his mate. “Stormy is a sexy name. I like it.”

David reached down and placed his hand under her chin gently. He turned her face so he could see her eyes. He looked at her with an expression full of questions. “Is Daniel also your mate?”

Stormy looked like she was about to cry. She chewed her lip and drew a heart on his chest before putting her palm over it. She swallowed hard and put her head back on his chest.

“It’s okay, Sweetheart.” He told her as he rubbed her back to soothe her. “I think I understand.” David took a deep calming breath.

Daniel looked absolutely crushed. “That makes one of us. She is my mate. I wouldn’t ever hurt her.” He protested as he started to pull her away from David and back to his chest again. She shivered and Daniel seemed to sense her fear and instead backed up just a bit. He looked concerned. “What’s wrong Stormy?”

David’s jealousy melted as he realized that Daniel wasn’t joking and that Stormy was also his brother’s mate. He stopped rubbing Stormy’s back and reached out squeeze his brother’s shoulder in a show of solidarity. “I think she’s freaking out because she doesn’t know that dragons can have multiple mates.”

“My Sweet, look at me.” David encouraged her. Stormy never released her grip from around his neck but did pull back so she could see his face. “I know that in some shifter cultures, you cannot have more than one fated mate but it's common for female dragons to have more than one male. The stronger she is, the more mates she will likely have.” David watched as Stormy chewed her lip.

Stormy’s eyes went huge. She pointed to each of the and flapped her hands from her shoulders like wings. Her eyebrows were furrowed and her nose slightly wrinkles in a face that David would describe as quizzical.

“Are you trying to say you didn’t know we were dragons?” Daniel asked her in amazement. “Did you not know what our kind smelled like, Sugar?”

Stormy shrugged and held her hands up like she didn’t know. She shook her head and drew a question mark on David’s chest.

“I’m sorry My Sweet, but I guess we got interrupted before we even got the basics covered. I am known as King David of the Gold dragons and I am ruler over all of Heart Stone, or what they call the land of the dragons.”

Stormy clapped her hands and bounced a little in his arms. She pointed to them and again made the same motion. She happily kissed David on the cheek and then quickly turned to kiss Daniel when she immediately froze and glanced back to David guiltily.

“Sweetheart, Dragons aren’t a jealous species. We live much longer lives than other races. Having additional mates helps keep things interesting.” David winked at her and leaned close to her ear. “Dragons have good eye sight and enjoy watching,’ he whispered huskily.

The tips of Stormy’s ears turned pink. She bit her lip seductively and David’s body stirred in response. He stroked her hair softly.

“Mate bonds are determined by fate. If the gods have chosen Daniel for you as well, there must be a reason. We could do worse than occasionally sharing a bed with my brother. He is a good man who will cherish and strive to please you.” David explained.

“Daniel is also heir to my kingdom until our children are born. He would rule beside you if the worst were to happen to me. He is skilled in raising royal children. Accepting the bond with my brother means you will have more people protecting and looking after you.” David encouraged her.

She turned to look at Daniel. She pointed to him, used her finger to write an O and a K on Daniel’s chest and then pointed to David while using her hand to make a biting motion on her neck. She bit her lip as she waiting. Daniel cocked his head and raised his eyebrow.

“I think she is asking how you feel about sharing a mate with me.” David told Daniel as he began to piece together the odd way his little mate expressed herself.

“I want to be with you and I love my brother. We won’t be jealous, Sugar.” Daniel told her with a small smile.

Stormy slowly released some of her grip from around David’s neck and relaxed against Daniel. She seemed to study him a moment, before leaning over and placing a quick kiss on his cheek.

“I’m sorry for scaring you, Sugar. I’m surprise you didn’t know about multiple mates. I guess you weren’t raised around dragons. It is common knowledge that my mother, the former queen, was a very powerful woman. She had three mates. The king was a Golden dragon like David. Her second mate was his top advisor, he was a Green. Her third was a from a rival clan of dragons that became part of the fold when their dragon king mated with my mother.” Daniel calmly explained. He slowly reached up and tucked a stray strand of Stormy's hair back behind her ear.
