Chapter 3
He said irritably, “I don’t know. And I don’t understand how you can be so relaxed at home while I’m drowning in work with the company on the verge of going public, as if you have no worries in the world.”
His words, implying that I did nothing all day, erased all my efforts.
Yes, I was at home, but every exhausting and troublesome task at the company was sent to me by his assistant to handle before it reached John.
He was the one reaping the rewards without lifting a finger!
How did I become a parasite in his eyes, living off him and draining his resources?
“So, this is how you see me?”
I laughed hollowly, my heart twisting in pain, making it hard to breathe.
When he noticed that I was not only ignoring his orders but also ready to make a scene, a look of impatience crossed John's face as he yanked his tie off his neck and threw it to the floor before heading straight to the bathroom.
I stared at the blue and white tie lying on the ground, my blood boiling.
My mind felt like it was exploding, leaving me in a blank haze as I slumped to the floor.
I had personally bought that tie for John, carefully selecting both its style and fabric.
John had sensitive skin; even the slightest bit of rough material would trigger an allergic reaction!
Yet, he needed many outfits for business engagements, spending millions on clothes each year.
As the company prepared for its public listing, expenses were piling up, so I saved my own share to ensure he had the best, allowing him to focus entirely on his career.
I always believed that in any relationship, one person inevitably sacrificed more than the other.
As long as we were progressing in a good direction, I thought it was worth enduring some hardship.
I was unwavering in my faith that John would never let me down!
But reality slapped me hard across the face.
I didn't just lose; I lost completely.
The blue and white tie was speckled with a cluster of false eyelashes.
In such an intimate space, having something from another woman touch it was unbearable to think about.
I was terrified to delve deeper into what this could mean.
I feared I wouldn’t be able to bear the heavy consequences that awaited me.
