Chapter Two

Margaret Mathias.

My mouth had hung open when I heard his words. I turned towards Jennifer, who had a victorious smile on her face. I nodded my head, realizing that I was alone in all this, so without a word, I went to my room, and I started packing my clothes into my luggage. When I was done. I heaved a deep breath because this is not what I had imagined after marriage, I had imagined having a luxurious life, but not this.

I walked out of the room; my luggage was still firmly held in my hand as I continued dragging it out. Both of them were silent; a part of me was waiting for at least one of them to beg me to stay, but no one did. I was close to the door when Joshua eventually stood in front of me as he said, "You know it hasn't gotten to that. Yes, I admit I have been silent all through the process, but just endure a little bit longer; everything will be fine."

"If she wants to leave, then let her be; don't stop her," Jennifer interjected, which made me walk out of the room without looking back. I slid the door open while using both hands to drag the luggage until I bumped into someone. I lifted my gaze. I was shocked when I noticed two handsome young men who seemed to be in their late twenties. Their hair was well-trimmed, they had beautiful olive skin, and their biceps were evident under their tight shirts. They had beautiful round lips and green eyes. They had similar features, I'd say they were like siblings.l but I'm not certain.

"Oh, I'm sorry... I..."

"Come in, Salvador and Denise; I know both of you must be tired from the long journey."

They briefly scanned me before they both walked into the house. I could feel my heartbeat increase, recalling how well-toned those men are. I was almost tempted to look back at them, but I had to resist the strong urge to leave regardless.

I went back home; my parents saw me, a look of pity clearly written in their eyes when they noticed how unkempt I looked and how much weight I had drastically lost, they welcomed me, and we cooked together, sat at the dining to eat like the family that we were before I made the decision to marry Joshua.

My mother averted her gaze towards me and said "Oh honey, I warned you, but you never listened, the day I had set my eyes on Joshua, I knew he was of no good, but money had blinded you."

"I'm sorry, mum. Now I regret everything, and I want to start all over again. I will try to be a good girl and focus on getting my own money without depending on any man."

She smiled, hugged me, and said, "That's the spirit, and I'll support you all the way." When we were done, I took my shower, and decided to sleep.

I jolted awake when I heard the voice of Jennifer calling out my name, telling me I needed to carry out the needed house chores. I was panting while scanning the room, only to realize that I was the only one, which made me heave a sigh of relief. I can't believe that Jennifer had managed to traumatize me to that extent.

I swallowed a deep breath as I checked the time only to realize it was already 9am. Despite the fact I was back home, I could still hear her voice and see her in my dreams. I begrudgingly walked out of the room. I noticed that my mom had already prepared breakfast. She had a broad smile on her face as she urged me to the dining table. I sat down as I joined her in eating. I didn't expect myself to miss these moments, knowing what freedom feels like. She gently wrapped her hand around mine as she said, "I know how you are feeling at the moment; that's why I'm suggesting that you shouldn't think of ever going back to that house again."

"But..."

"Please listen, Margaret, there's more than what you see, so please just promise me that you are not going back there. I know I should have tried stopping you a long time ago, but you were too blinded by love and material things to see his true intentions."

I let out a deep breath, nodding my head as I gently wrapped my hand around hers and promised her that I was not going back.

She smiled as she continued eating. Suddenly, she started choking; her eyes bulged, and her face turned red. She was finding it difficult to breathe.

"Mum...Mum, are you okay? Please have some water." I urged her, panic etched on my voice, but what horrified me was when she started vomiting blood. I rushed towards her as I wrapped my hand around her. Out of fear, I started searching for my phone to call an emergency ambulance, but I couldn't seem to find the phone.

My mom, who was finding it very difficult to breathe, wrapped her hand around my cheeks. Her gaze was intense as she watched me. "I... I know... this... is not the right time to tell you this, but I don't think I'll make it. For that, I want to tell you that my sister is..."

A loud shot echoed. I froze on the spot. When my mom went silent in the pool of her blood, my gaze searched, looking for whoever did that. I lifted my gaze only to find Jennifer standing by the door, wearing black leather clothes and a gun firmly held in her hand, looking unperturbed.
