Chapter 4 This is My Sincerity
After a moment, Karl Veyron nodded lightly and said, "Let's go."
Josephine Titan knew he had agreed and couldn't help but smile brightly, her eyes shining with joy. "Thank you. You won't regret it."
Karl Veyron's eyes brightened slightly. He steadied his mind and withdrew his gaze. Darian Voss pushed the wheelchair and turned to leave, and Josephine followed suit.
Behind them, Silas Thorn hesitated as he looked at the couple Reginald Titan and Odette Titan. The young master had just ordered him to act, but now he had taken the girl away. Should they proceed or not?
"Dismissed," Karl Veyron's voice sounded from outside the door.
Only then did Silas Thorn lead his team out one by one. It wasn't until they disappeared beyond the gates of the Titan family villa that the people in the hall reacted, letting out sighs of relief and wiping away cold sweat. The night prince of Eryndor was too frightening.
Reginald Titan and Odette Titan helped each other up. "I never thought that at the critical moment, it would be Josephine who saved our Titan family," someone exclaimed.
Reginald looked pleased and self-satisfied. "Josephine is a good child. She truly frightened everyone today. I've already booked a hotel and selected fine wine to treat everyone."
The atmosphere in the Titan family gradually became lively again after they had escaped disaster.
Half an hour later, Josephine and Karl sat face to face in a low-key, luxurious car. Josephine looked at the two dark red marriage certificates in her hands and was momentarily stunned. She had actually married the man she had desperately tried to avoid in her past life.
Did that mean her destiny in this life could finally be controlled by herself?
She lifted her feathered lashes and quickly glanced at Karl Veyron. Apart from the fact that he was said to be near death, this man was undoubtedly handsome, excellent, and powerful.
And from what she could see at the moment, he didn't seem as cold-blooded and difficult to talk to as the rumors suggested. So she finally had a new beginning, different from her past life. That was wonderful. The sudden joy made her lips unconsciously curve upward.
"Do you want to marry me?" Karl suddenly spoke, his indifferent voice carrying a faint, imperceptible gloom.
Josephine restrained her smile, paused for two seconds, then nodded gently. "Yes."
"If you wanted to, why did you expose the matter of being a substitute bride?" Karl asked.
"Because I don't believe impersonation could ever deceive your eyes, Lord Veyron. Rather than being exposed later, it's better to explain it clearly from the beginning. This is my sincerity to you," Josephine replied seriously.
Karl chuckled lightly, and a trace of inquiry gleamed in his eyes. "Have we met somewhere before?"
Josephine thought carefully for a moment and shook her head. "No."
In her memory, today was the first time they had met in both this life and the past.
Karl nodded and resumed his previous indifference. "Why do you want to marry me?"
"Because you can give me enough protection," Josephine confessed. "I've lived a very miserable life until now. If I want to escape that kind of life, I must find a powerful backer. And you're powerful enough."
As Karl raised his eyebrows slightly, his gaze, seemingly smiling yet not, fixed on her.
When they took their wedding photo earlier, she had tied up her hair, revealing her features clearly. Her forehead was smooth, her eyes and brows beautiful, her nose straight and delicate, and her lips, moist and red, were slightly pursed with joy between her brows. Two shallow dimples faintly appeared on her porcelain-white face. She looked pretty and cute.
It seemed she was really just a simple little rabbit looking for a backer.
But was that truly the case?
"So you simply want to use me?"
His indifferent tone made Josephine nervous for a moment. "It should be mutual use, shouldn't it? After all, you also need a wife, don't you?"
She looked back at him as calmly as possible, not dodging or avoiding.
"If I merely needed a wife, there are many women who would be willing."
"But those women are likely to have interests entangled with you and the Veyron family. That's why you chose Seraphina Titan, who has no connection to your social circle. And I am even more suitable for your requirements than Seraphina."
"How so?"
"Because not only was I unconnected to your social circle before, I am also an orphan now my mother passed away years ago. As for the people in the Titan family... When I agreed to marry you, I severed my relationship with Reginald Titan. Therefore, you don't even have to worry about the Titan family coming to attach themselves to you and drain you."
As she spoke, she handed two agreements to Karl.
One was the contract severing the father-daughter relationship with Reginald Titan, and the other was the contract dissolving the engagement with Alistair Vance.
"Reginald Titan is your biological father, isn't he?" Karl asked in surprise.
Josephine slowly narrowed her eyes, and the hatred in them instantly sharpened. "He is a biological father who gave me life but never raised me. Add to that a vicious stepmother, a stepsister who wants to snatch everything, and a ruthless fiancé."
"They made my first twenty years a living hell. I want them to return everything they took from me. I want them to pay for the harm they caused me."
Karl put away the contracts. "So you intend to take revenge with my help?"
Josephine replied, "Yes. However, I can guarantee that my affairs will not bring you any trouble or difficulty. If you are uneasy, we can sign a contract."
"If one day you feel this marriage is no longer necessary, you may end it at any time, and I will not make a fuss."
Karl pondered for a moment. "You only want to use my power?"
Josephine was silent for a moment. Although the phrase "using your power" was not very pleasant, it was not wrong. However, since this was a cooperation, she couldn't take all the benefits for herself. So she sincerely added, "Of course, since I have enjoyed the protection this marriage brings me, I will be one hundred percent loyal to this marriage. From this moment on, you are my only family in this world."
"So no matter what you ask of me, you can tell me directly, and I will do my best to cooperate."
"No matter what request?" Karl's voice rose slightly.
Josephine nodded firmly. "Yes. No matter what request."
She firmly believed that the man before her, however bad, could not be worse than Alistair Vance and Seraphina Titan. So whatever request he could make, it couldn't be more excessive than asking for her heart.
Karl said, "Hmm. Then be a good wife to the third young master of the Veyron family. Remember that identity at all times."
He was reminding her that being his wife was definitely not easy.
But Josephine still nodded without hesitation.
Karl hummed again, then closed his eyes tiredly. His thick lashes fell, covering his lower eyelids like two small fans. His thick black eyebrows rose with heroism, his nose was straight and well-shaped, and his thin lips held a faint pallor.
Josephine knew that was the lip color of a seriously ill person.
There was a faint, bitter herbal smell in the car, subtle and hard to detect.
Josephine carefully looked at him.
In her past life, this man had died one month after marrying Seraphina.
But judging from his complexion, he didn't seem that sick.
She slowly reached out and touched his wrist, lightly placing her index, middle, and ring fingers on his pulse. After about five or six minutes, she withdrew her fingers. A hint of confusion flashed in her eyes.
