Chapter 7 How Good Are You at Fighting
Josephine frowned. "What do you mean?"
"Are you still playing dumb? The bank loan we applied for was rejected, and the other party clearly stated it was Lord Veyron's order."
"Lord Veyron gave the order. Go find Lord Veyron. What use is it coming to me?"
"Josephine Titan, you are his wife now. If you hadn't agreed, why would he attack our family?"
"Do you think he treats me like a normal wife? I'm just a substitute bride forced by the Titan family."
Reginald choked. When he tried to speak again, Josephine had already hung up.
Reginald was so angry his eyes bulged. He turned and glared at Odette Titan. "This is all your fault! What were you thinking with that marriage scheme? Now Josephine won't even acknowledge us, and Lord Veyron treats us as enemies! Not only did your plan fail, it made things worse! Let me tell you, if the loan issue isn't resolved, you and Seraphina can get the hell out of this house. Lord Veyron hates you both anyway!"
Odette was stunned. She immediately called Seraphina.
"Seraphina, what should I do? Your father wants to..."
Seraphina glanced at Alistair Vance, who was sitting next to her working on the computer, and replied in a low voice, "Mom, don't worry. I'll tell you when I go out. Brother Yiheng is working. I'm afraid I'll disturb him."
After speaking, she got out of bed lightly, walked into the bathroom, and closed the door.
Alistair noticed her actions and smiled with satisfaction, feeling lucky to have met such a beautiful, lovely, and understanding girl.
After hearing Odette out, Seraphina chuckled lightly. "Mom, tell Dad not to worry. I'll take care of this."
"How will you do that?"
"You'll know when the time comes."
Only then did Odette breathe a sigh of relief. She turned and glared at Reginald. "Seraphina said she has a way. Just trust her. When has Seraphina ever let you down?"
Meanwhile, Fenna drove the car to the bank building. Josephine pushed the door open and got out, looking up at the majestic structure with narrowed eyes.
Her mother had left her a safe deposit box at this bank. In her previous life, Reginald and the bank manager had tied her to a chair to force the password out of her kicking, beating, slapping and finally taking needles and nailing her nails one by one... That kind of pain, though agonizing, was less vivid than the memory of Reginald's mad excitement after he got the contents of the safe. And she never knew what her mother had put inside until the day she died.
Josephine lowered her head and silently said in her heart: Mom, I'm sorry. This time, I won't lose the safe again.
Fenna, who had parked the car and come over, saw the young mistress standing at the foot of the steps in front of the bank, radiating cold air like an ice sculpture, and shuddered inexplicably. She hesitated and called out, "Young Mistress?"
Josephine turned her head. "How good are you at fighting?"
Fenna immediately puffed out her chest, her face full of pride. "If it's ordinary people, one against ten is no problem. If it's skilled fighters, it depends on the opponent's level. But young mistress, don't worry. Even if the opponent is skilled, I can protect you well."
"I want to know, if you killed someone..."
Fenna blinked her big eyes twice and answered seriously, "If it's self-defense, killing him is fine. But no one in Eryndor has ever dared to lay a hand on the Veyron family."
Josephine nodded and started up the stairs. "In a while, I'm going to beat up a fat man. Just don't actually kill him. After all, what I told Lord Veyron was that I wouldn't cause trouble, so beating someone without killing them shouldn't count as trouble."
Fenna let out an "oh" and followed her up the stairs.
As soon as they entered the hall, the staff greeted them. Knowing Josephine was there to access the safe, they took her upstairs. Out of the elevator, turn left into the second room the manager's office.
Fenna pushed the door open, and Josephine stepped in. The fat manager, sitting behind his desk watching a video on his phone, heard the movement and yelled without even looking up, "Get out!"
In the next second, Fenna grabbed him by the collar. "Who should get out?"
Though she looked like a cute little girl, the aura radiating from Fenna made the fat manager feel like he might wet his pants instantly. A smile immediately appeared on his face. "No one, no one. Miss, can you let me go first?"
Fenna looked at Josephine, and after she nodded, released her grip. But she stood beside the fat manager, ready to beat him to death at any moment.
After being released, the manager turned to Josephine with an even brighter smile. "Miss, how may I help you?"
Josephine took out the relevant documents and placed them on his desk. "I want to retrieve the contents of my safe deposit box."
The fat manager reached out, flipped through the papers carefully, then frowned. "Miss Titan, this safe deposit box won't be accessible until a year later... Aaaah"
Before he could finish, Fenna grabbed his ear, and the fat manager screamed in pain.
Josephine ignored his cries, her voice so cold it was frightening. "A year later? My mother's will states that as long as I am married, I can come and retrieve the contents at any time. But you tell me it will be a year later? Reginald Titan asked you to say that, didn't he? Tell me when did you collude with him?"
The fat manager endured the pain in his ear and denied it. "I don't know Mr. Titan. Our bank only follows the customer's instructions."
Josephine: "Mr. Titan? How do you know Reginald Titan is 'Mr. Titan'? Couldn't it be Miss Titan or Mrs. Titan?"
The fat manager choked and made a bitter face. "With such a masculine name like Reginald, everyone would assume..."
Josephine raised her hand and slapped him across the face with a sharp crack. She didn't know how much force she used, but the corner of the fat manager's mouth instantly bled. His fat face looked even fatter.
Josephine took out a tissue and wiped her fingers carefully, as if she had touched something disgusting and dirty. "Do you think I came here without any evidence? You're wrong. I know exactly when you colluded with Reginald and what kind of benefit exchange you reached. The reason you can still sit here as manager is because I believe you'll make the right choice between me and Reginald. After all, the benefits Reginald promised you may never materialize, but I can take your... life right now."
At the same time, Fenna released the fat manager's ear, picked up the fruit knife from the table, and played with it right in front of his eyes. The knife fluttered up and down in her hand, nearly hitting his face several times, but he had no way to dodge the chair was pinned by Fenna, and there was no possibility of retreating.
This wasn't the scariest part. The scariest part was Josephine herself. She was obviously a beautiful young woman, but she exuded a forceful hostility from the inside out, looking at him as if he were her father's murderer. It seemed that if he dared to refuse, he would be dead in the next second.
"I... I... I'll take you to retrieve it now." The fat manager made his decision instantly. No benefit was worth his life.
When they reached the safe deposit room, Josephine took out her key, and the fat manager took out the bank's key. Together, they opened the first door of the safe. Behind it was a keypad.
"Miss Titan, as long as you enter the password, it will open."
Josephine gave an "mm," and after watching the fat manager leave, she turned to look at Fenna. Fenna understood, turned, and walked out.
After confirming no one else was present, Josephine covered the keypad with her hands and entered the password. The safe door opened, and Josephine saw an iron box inside. She opened it. The first thing she saw were five gold bars.
Josephine took them out, and underneath were some documents. She flipped through them one by one: real estate, properties, shops, stocks, and government bonds. At the very bottom were two notebooks one labeled Medicine and the other Surgery. Opening the one labeled Medicine, she found various prescriptions recorded inside. The one on Surgery contained experimental surgical data and techniques.
As Josephine flipped through the pages, her heart beat faster and faster. This was...
