Chapter 3 Logan
The day has just begun, and I am almost to my favorite camping sites on the property that I purchased a few years ago in the hopes to one day build a cabin for my wife and children to enjoy. That is all gone to shit in a blink of an eye. It will take Chet about a week to get the feds all brought up to speed on what happened and the divorce started. I don’t expect too much push back on the divorce since I have video of her and him together, but you never know. That is why I had to get away for a few days to let Chet work his magic for me. I just reach the top of the hill, and the breeze floats through the trees and washes over my face. I take a deep breath and the smell of vanilla and cinnamon fills my nose just as I hear the most angelic voice, I have heard stopping me in my tracks.
I close my eyes and listen, “I must really be loosing it,” I say on a whisper and shake my head and continue on my path up the hill almost to where my home away from home for the next week is located. I am just stepping through the brush and stop dead in because in front of me is the the most angelic creature I have ever seen in my life. Before me stands a woman of about 5’8”, in a long white nightie that just reaches about her bare feet and her waist length chestnut hair flows in the wind and shows off her curves for days. My mouth is watering just at the site of her. Her voice floats on the breeze as she stretches her arms out wide and lays her head back just enough to allow the words to be sung to the now blue sky.
She is singing with such passion and such soul searing pain that I just want to scoop her up and hold her and tell her that I will never let anything hurt her again. As if my feet have a mind of their own, I find myself stepping closer to her, I am just about within arms reach when she finishes singing and drops her head into her hands and sobs. She is about to collapse to her knees, but I am able to reach her in time and we fall together. I let her cry it out and just hold her whispering into her hair that I am here, and I will never let anything happen to her ever again. She grips my arms and sobs harder into my chest for what feels like an hour before she passes out.
I look around the area and see that she has quite the set up and from the looks of it she has been here for a bit. This raise my hackles and makes me want to know why such a beautiful creature is out here all alone and why is she so upset. I see her tent and drop my pack as gently as I can, so I don’t wake her, then I scoop her up and gently lay her down on her sleeping bag bed. She curls up into a ball and it pulls at every protective instinct I have. I grab my pack and pull it into the tent and close it up before I kick off my boots and snuggle up next to her, as soon as I do, she turns and curls up into my chest and sighs. I am so gone; I just know that this is where I was supposed to be, and she is who I was supposed to be with. I will need to call Chet to get this divorce done asap, because I am not going another day without this beauty that is currently in my arms.
Sunny
I wake up to a warmth pressed up to my back and a heavy weight around my waist, I reach down and feel what feels like a large arm and my whole-body tenses, and my first thought is that they found me. However, I don’t think Mr. Brighten would be holding like this, he would be dragging me to my wedding kicking and screaming. I slowly turn toward the body behind me trying not to wake him, once I am face to face with a Greek god of a man. His hair is black wavy mass on his head and his jaw line is so fierce he could probably cut glass, I try to look down the body, but I am only able to see his chest. The only thing I can think of is that I am still dreaming, I must have cried myself to sleep and this is my subconscious giving me what I need.
I gently stroke his cheek with my index finger and sigh, “Thank you, I needed your strength, even if only in a dream.” I kiss my fingers and place them on his lips.
“Hmm,” he sighs out with a deep richness that instantly makes my body hum with anticipation.
“I wish you were real,” I say as I move a piece of hair from his forehead and raise up to kiss it. “I wish dreams didn’t tease me so, you feel so real.” I snuggle back down onto his chest and allow myself to fall back into a deeper sleep.
Logan
I wake up to the feel of my phone vibrating in my pants and this lovely woman sleeping on my chest. I hate to wake her, so I slowly slide out of her embrace and out of the tent to answer my phone.
“Yeah,” I bark into the line because I know it is my soon to be ex-wife.
Her shrill voice bellows through the receiver, “You serve me with divorce papers on our anniversary. What the fuck Logan.”
“I am sure Chet included the note as to why I filled, and I am positive that you know why I filled.” I answer as I walk farther away from the tent and fill my heartache for her. Yet I know I need to end this call quickly so I can return to my future.
“What are you talking about, I never cheated on you.” She yells into the phone.
“Really?” I huff out and type out a text and include the video I took this morning, then I think better of it and just say, “Well I guess you better read that nice prenup that your father had us sign when we got married again, oh and BTW, Bret is on his way to jail and you will be joining him soon.” With that I ended the call and blocked her number. Then I shoot off a text to Chet to let him know about the call and that I blocked her number.
He sent me a text back almost as fast as I sent mine. He tells me that Bret has been booked and she was served, and the Feds are on their way to speak with her, also that her Father has already called him twice. It seems he feels that the prenup is null and void because of how long you were married. Only he doesn’t seem to realize that his lawyers where so thorough that she won’t get a dime from you because she cheated. At this I chuckle and tell him that I am at my camping location and that I want this divorce done before I get back. He sends me a thumbs up emoji. I turn back to the tent and crawl back into the makeshift bed with my beauty and fall instantly asleep.
I am gently awakened from my slumber to see the most enchanting gray eyes I have every seen staring at me. “Good afternoon Sunshine.” Say with a half smile as I reach up to brush a lock of hair away from her face and tuck it behind her ear.
“Your real?” She asks on a whisper. “I am not dreaming, did my family send you? Are you going to take me back there?”
I shake my head and say, “No, I just came to camp on my property and get away from the world for a few days and found you crying.” She seems to relax at this and sighs. “My name is Logan Marshall, and I will never let anything hurt you ever again.”
“I am Sunny Russell, and I don’t know if you can save me.” She says with a heavy sigh and looks over my shoulder. “I know I should be worried that you are here, but somehow I feel like you are meant to be here with me, almost like I was waiting for you.” She looks me in the eyes and smiles shyly.
I reach up and take her face in my hands and gently brush the newly formed tears away, “I feel the same way.” I say and kiss her forehead. “Do you want to tell me what brought you out here by yourself?”
She takes a deep breath and lowers her eyes, “My father and Mother are trying to settle some debt and I am the payment.” I tense and grip her shoulders a little tighter than I should, she winces, and I release her. “Anyway, as soon as I could I run I did and have been running since.” She says with a shrug.
I am so irritated I could spit nails, but I look into her eyes and instantly soften and know that she will never have to see them again if she doesn’t want to. “I will never let that happen. You have me now and I am never letting you go.” I tell her with all the sincerity I can give with words.
Smiles at me and nods, then leans into my chest and breaths deep just as her stomach rumbles. I chuckle and hold her tighter, “Sounds like we need to feed you.” I say with a smile myself.
“Yes, I have some can soup and some granola in my cooler hanging in the tree outside.” She says sheepishly.
I smile because not only is she beautiful, but she is a survivalist and I can’t be prouder. I kiss her forehead again and tell her, “Why don’t you get dressed and I will retrieve what I brought, and I think between the two of us, we should have pretty good lunch.” With that I untangle us despite her slight whimper. After I am out of the tent, I have to adjust myself and I get to work on stoking the fire and getting lunch ready. After I feed her, I will find out all there is to know about her and her about me, including my pending divorce.
