Chapter 3 The Dangerous Gamble

A heavy crystal flower vase smashed against the wall right beside Eva’s head. Some of the fragments even ricocheted, grazing her temple and leaving it bleeding.

Eva gasped, her heart leaping into her throat. Within the dimness of the room, she could discern the silhouette of a tall man sitting on the bed.

His eyes burned with deep animosity and profound depression. Looking ready to pounce on anyone who dared approach.

"You will never comprehend what I am enduring right now. That scratch on your head is nothing. You better get the hell out before I lose my mind completely!" Wayne threatened.

‘Yes, I admit his current state is deeply pitiful. But he isn't the only one suffering in this world. Does he think my life is easy?’ she thought.

"This wound on my head is nothing compared to yours, so I won't be angry. But did you know? People who seem fine often harbor deeper wounds. Not all pain is visible to the eye.

Right now, you feel like your life is ruined, but out there, there are many people suffering far more, even though they appear perfect. I won't force you to accept this fate. However, wouldn't it be better to focus on healing rather than dwelling on your fate?"

"Don't talk nonsense! With me in this condition, who could possibly cure me?"

"I can!" Eva answered with absolute certainty.

Wayne flashed a bitter smile. "Who do you think you are? Even renowned specialists couldn't cure me. You don't need to bluff just to please me."

"I might be nobody, but I can guarantee your recovery as long as you are cooperative. Medical treatment will never succeed if the patient refuses to work together. Success heavily relies on the patient's own fighting spirit," Eva countered.

"Bullshit! You better leave. Your presence here is just a waste of time," Wayne barked, dismissing her.

"Let's make a deal. I promise I will leave if your health shows absolutely no progress within one week. Please give me a single chance to prove that effort never betrays the results," Eva requested.

Wayne averted his gaze. "Whatever!" he snapped curtly.

Eva smiled. Yes! He finally relented. ‘Thank You, God,’ she celebrated internally.

"But don't get too happy just yet!" Wayne turned his head back toward Eva.

"I am not an easy person to approach. Do not expect me to let you touch me. So, make an effort to ensure I feel comfortable and can accept your touch!"

The woman froze. ’Damn it! I thought he was being cooperative. It turns out my battle is still far from over.’

"Very well, I will make an effort," she replied. ’But how on earth am I supposed to treat him if he refuses to be touched?’

The atmosphere suddenly fell silent. Eva froze, unsure where to begin. This therapy required physical contact, and her patient was averse to touch.

In the midst of the stalemate, Eva's phone vibrated violently. There was an incoming call from Adam.

"You're noisy!" Wayne snapped.

"Excuse me," Eva said. Her phone continued to vibrate. Realizing she still needed his money, Eva was forced to step out of the room to answer it. "Hello, Mr. Adam."

"What's taking so long?"

"I'm on an errand for you, sir."

"How's it going?"

‘Gosh, I haven't even been here an hour!’ Eva complained to herself. "We were just about to start therapy, sir."

"Did he accept you?"

"Yes, I was very well received," Eva lied.

Adam chuckled sarcastically on the other end. "Oh, really? You seem very happy to be greeted with a broken vase. Maybe I should learn from Wayne next time."

Eva's face heated up. "How did you know?"

“It’s not difficult for me to know everything,” Adam interrupted coldly. “I can monitor your every move.”

“You’re violating my privacy!” Eva protested.

“The law is in my hands. If you object, please step back.” Adam immediately hung up.

Eva growled in frustration. ‘Why do I have to deal with these two devil?’ she thought, exasperated. After taking a deep breath to calm herself, she stepped back into Wayne’s room.

"Why do you take pleasure in disrupting someone's peace? I am resting!" Wayne bellowed, catching Eva completely off guard.

"I apologize, but I must treat you. Therefore, if you do not want me pacing back and forth, please permit me to conduct this therapy. I promise it won't take long," the woman answered.

Wayne locked a sharp gaze onto Eva's eyes. "Fine! I will grant you ten minutes. After that, you must exit this room!"

"Understood," Eva complied.

"However, if your actions yield absolutely no effect, then do not expect me to permit you to touch me ever again tomorrow," Wayne hissed.

Eva inhaled a lengthy breath. She simply nodded, then pulled back the duvet concealing the man's leg. She touched it to evaluate the condition of the injury. It perfectly aligns with the medical reports I reviewed last night, she noted internally.

She put on her stethoscope, directing the instrument toward Wayne’s chest. However, the man instantly bellowed at her, "WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING?"

The woman startled backward. "I simply wish to examine you."

"My leg is what hurts, why are your hands trying to touch my chest?" Wayne protested.

'Good grief!' Eva screamed internally.

"Even though it is the leg that is injured, medical examination must be conducted thoroughly so I can prescribe the correct medication. If I administer the wrong medicine and you suffer poisoning, I will be the one held accountable," the woman explained.

Wayne stared at her with a piercing gaze. Eva stepped forward once more, examining the man's chest utilizing the stethoscope.

He swallowed hard as their proximity grew exceptionally close. He could see just how meticulously Eva was examining his body.

"Your heart rate is remarkably fast. Has it ever been like this previously?" Eva asked with absolute innocence.

Wayne grew thoroughly flustered. In truth, his racing pulse was entirely caused by the woman, but there was absolutely no way he would admit it. The man firmly clamped his hand over Eva’s wrist just as the doctor prepared to examine his abdomen.

Grab!

Eva turned her head toward him. "What is it?"

Wayne closed the physical distance between their faces. "Why are you going that far? Are you trying to examine me, or are you being lewd?"

Eva was entirely unaware that outside the room, a pair of eyes was watching closely. Their current positioning appeared intensely intimate, causing that individual to entirely misunderstand the situation.

"So this is how she conducts her medical treatment? Last night she climbed into my bed, and now she's trying to climb into another man's bed?" Adam’s jaw clenched tightly in pure fury.
