Chapter6 The Exposé

Talia POV

Gavin's position today was entirely thanks to the Camorra family's investment and his company's reputation.

If I exposed how he was ungrateful, abandoned his girlfriend of seven years to climb the social ladder, and indirectly caused the death of his own child, his company would definitely get criticized for a while.

Though it wouldn't be enough to destroy him, it would definitely disgust him.

Once this thought appeared, I couldn't suppress it anymore.

But I couldn't do this myself, or Serafina could easily turn it around and say I was deliberately getting revenge.

The best way was to use the media.

I remembered when I worked at the luxury counter, I met an entertainment reporter named Luna. She specialized in digging up dirt on wealthy families, was bold, and cared most about news buzz.

Back then when she came to the store to interview Serafina, I was the one who helped connect them. She still owed me a favor.

While Jareth was handling documents, I snuck into the hallway and sent Luna a message. "Got some major dirt on Gavin, the Camorra family's future son-in-law. Want to hear it?"

Within seconds, Luna called me, asking excitedly, "Spill it. Is it cheating or financial issues? As long as it's explosive enough, I'll definitely handle it properly for you."

"Worse than cheating." I lowered my voice, deliberately building suspense. "To marry Serafina, he abandoned his girlfriend of seven years and indirectly killed his own kid. If you dare publish it, it'll blow up nationwide."

Luna asked in surprise, "Really? That's huge. You got proof? Without evidence I don't dare write it. The Camorra family isn't someone to mess with."

I was prepared. "I have evidence. I've got transfer records from when his ex-girlfriend worked to help him pay rent and utilities during his startup days. Plus their old photos together and chat logs. I even have screenshots of him giving her the cold shoulder after he hooked up with Serafina."

When I broke up with Gavin, I was lucky I didn't delete these files. Who knew they'd be so useful now.

I added, "Even though I'm the one tipping you off, just say it's from an anonymous source. Just blur the evidence a bit."

Luna agreed immediately. "No problem. I'm familiar with this kind of thing. I guarantee it'll be seamless. Send me the evidence. Tomorrow morning, I promise Gavin will be trending everywhere."

After hanging up, I felt secretly pleased.

As soon as I turned around, I ran into Jareth leaning against the office door, holding a cup of coffee and watching me.

My heart tightened. He didn't hear what I just said, did he?

"What are you up to?" He walked up to me and asked calmly.

"Nothing... just chatting with a friend." I instinctively hid my phone behind my back.

This was better kept to myself. If Jareth found out, who knew if he'd stop me.

The next morning, Luna's report went live right on time.

The headline immediately caught attention. "Mafia Family Son-in-Law's Rise to Power? Gavin Abandons Girlfriend of Seven Years to Marry Camorra Family Heiress, Causing Her Miscarriage!"

The article included the transfer records, chat screenshots, and photos I provided. Though key information was censored, anyone could guess what happened.

Luna wrote brilliantly, painting Gavin as an ungrateful, cold-blooded scumbag.

As soon as the report came out, online comments flooded in.

"Oh my god, seven years together still can't compete with a Mafia family heiress? This guy is such trash!"

"No wonder Gavin's company suddenly took off. Turns out he latched onto the Camorra family. The price was abandoning his ex?"

"The worst part is the ex-girlfriend. Not only got dumped but lost her baby too. So pitiful!"

Comments from netizens kept pouring in. Gavin's personal social media accounts were instantly flooded with hate. His company's website was also overrun by users, the comment section full of demands for an explanation.

I sat in Jareth's office, looking at the trending topics, feeling very happy.

#GavinUngrateful

#CamorraFamilyFutureSonInLawFallFromGrace

These topics shot to the top of trending lists one after another, the heat staying high.

The office AC was a bit cool. I was scrolling through comments cursing out Gavin, still smiling, when I heard a loud bang from the doorway.

Gavin ran in, his hair messy, his suit jacket wrinkled beyond recognition. He pointed at me and shouted, "Talia, was it you? Did you leak those reports?"

I slowly put down my phone, leaned back on the sofa, and looked at him. "So what if it was, so what if it wasn't?"

"It really was you!" He rushed forward two steps but was stopped by the guards at the door. He could only glare at me from a few steps away. "Why would you do this? We were together for seven years. Even if we broke up, did you have to destroy me?"

I said mockingly, "Gavin, you're talking to me about feelings now? When you and Serafina teamed up and made me lose my child, why didn't you think about our seven years together?"

Mentioning the child, Gavin's tone softened a bit. He defended himself. "That thing... that was an accident! I had no idea Serafina would go that far!"

I suddenly stood up, unable to suppress my anger. "You're saying that was an accident? She sent people to kidnap me, locked me in an abandoned warehouse for three days and nights, watched me bleed nonstop, and you're telling me that was an accident?"

Gavin said hastily, "I really didn't know. Serafina told me she just wanted to send some people to scare you, make you leave me on your own. She promised she wouldn't hurt you or the baby. I believed her. I thought it was just to scare you."

"You believed her?" I stared at him. "I was with you for seven years. Don't you know what kind of person I am? You'd rather believe a woman you barely knew than believe me?"

Gavin just lowered his head. "At that time... the company was waiting for Serafina's investment. I couldn't lose that opportunity. I thought once the company was stable, I'd make it up to you. I would..."

"Make it up?" I interrupted. "My child is gone. How are you going to make that up? With your company now? Or with your engagement ring to Serafina?"

He suddenly looked up. "Talia, I know I wronged you, but I really didn't plan the kidnapping. Serafina only told me after she did it. I was really angry too, but she's the Camorra family's daughter. I can't afford to offend her!"

I walked forward two steps. The guards wanted to stop me but I waved them off. "So you just watched her hurt me, watched our child die, then turned around and got engaged to her, enjoying everything she gave you?"

"I didn't!" Gavin shouted, his eyes a bit red. "I went to Serafina back then and had a huge fight with her. But she threatened me, said if I dared turn against her, she'd pull her investment and make sure I couldn't stay in this city! I'd been building my business for so many years, put in so much effort. I couldn't just let it be destroyed."

"So your business is more important than my child? More important than our seven years together?"

Looking at his pathetic appearance, the last bit of feeling I had left disappeared.
