Chapter 6 Threat?
The next day, 3 PM.
Sienna showed up right on time downstairs at the Baker Corporation building.
She wore an oversized black blazer over a white T-shirt, paired with straight-leg jeans and a pair of Doc Martens.
Her shoulder-length hair was tucked behind her ears, with a single silver earring on her delicate earlobe.
She looked sharp and put-together, completely different from her previous bare-faced self.
Alexander, who was waiting for her, saw her new look and a flash of admiration crossed his eyes behind his glasses.
"The short hair looks great."
"Thanks." Sienna smiled.
Alexander's gaze softened a bit. "Let's go."
"Okay."
The two walked into the building. When the receptionist saw Sienna, she froze for a moment, then quickly stood up. "Mrs. Baker?"
Sienna rarely came here, so she was surprised the receptionist still remembered her.
"I'm here to see Theodore," Sienna said directly.
"Of course, Mrs. Baker."
After the receptionist buzzed them in, Sienna led Alexander into the elevator and pressed the button for the top floor.
Alexander glanced at her. "Nervous?"
Sienna shook her head.
She only felt relieved.
The elevator doors opened. At the end of the hallway was Theodore's office.
The door was open. Sienna immediately spotted the man sitting behind the desk, wearing a navy blue shirt with sleeves rolled up to his forearms, looking calm and distinguished.
Hearing them, Theodore looked up, his eyes landing on her and pausing for a moment.
She had changed.
Her hair was cut short, her clothes were different—she was like a pearl that had shed its dull outer shell, revealing its true luster.
Sienna walked to the desk and sat down in a chair, her manner composed. "So, which clause aren't you happy with?"
Theodore picked up the divorce agreement from the desk and flipped to the last page.
"This one." His voice was low. "Change it."
Sienna looked where his finger pointed and raised an eyebrow. "Why should I change it? Isn't it the truth?"
Theodore's jawline tightened. "Sienna, don't push it."
"Push it?" Sienna laughed lightly. "Theodore, when you were sleeping with Chloe, did you think you were pushing it?"
Theodore: "What's between us has nothing to do with Chloe."
"Why doesn't it?" Sienna shot back. "You cheated during our marriage and got your mistress pregnant. Technically, I should write that as the reason for divorce, but I didn't. I gave you some dignity and only wrote 'failure to fulfill marital obligations.' What more do you want?"
"You..." Theodore's face turned dark.
"Mr. Baker." Alexander spoke up at the right moment, his tone gentle but firm. "According to New York law, adultery makes you the at-fault party, which can negatively affect property division and alimony. My client is only asking for a division of premarital assets, without requesting any additional compensation. That's already a huge concession."
He pushed up his glasses. "If you want to fight even this clause, I don't mind filing a more detailed divorce lawsuit on behalf of my client."
The office fell dead silent.
Theodore's brow furrowed slightly, his deep eyes staring coldly at Alexander.
Alexander met his gaze, neither humble nor arrogant.
The atmosphere was tense.
Without hesitation, Sienna tore the divorce agreement in half.
"Since Mr. Baker won't accept it, forget it." She looked at Alexander. "Please draft a new divorce complaint and submit all the evidence of Mr. Baker's adultery and his mistress's pregnancy to the court."
"Sienna!" Theodore's magnetic voice was laced with coldness. "You think a few words can threaten me?"
Sienna said calmly, "You've got it wrong. I'm not threatening you, I'm notifying you. If you won't cooperate, I'll have to use legal means. If you don't want all your dirty laundry aired out and affecting Baker Corporation's stock price, just sign."
After being married, she didn't want things to end this way between them either.
Theodore automatically ignored the strange feeling in his chest and leaned back leisurely in his chair, crossing his legs.
"Fine, sue me if you want, but let me remind you—Baker Corporation's legal team has never lost a case."
Sienna shrugged. "Doesn't matter. If I can't get divorced, Chloe will always be the mistress, and the thing in her belly will always be an illegitimate child who can't see the light of day."
Theodore's expression suddenly darkened.
Just as they were at a standoff, the office door was suddenly pushed open.
His assistant Harold Smith burst in, his face pale. "Mr. Baker, we have a problem! Ms. Chloe's 'Rebirth' series is accused of plagiarism. It's all over the internet."
Harold's words cut off abruptly when he saw Sienna and Alexander.
"What happened?" Theodore asked coldly.
"Everyone's saying she plagiarized from Ann, a designer who retired three years ago." Harold handed over a tablet. "The similarity is over ninety percent. And when compared, all of Ms. Green's work from the past three years can be found in Ann's portfolio."
"More importantly, our collaboration with LU Group on the 'Oriental Series' project uses Ms. Green's 'Rebirth' series. LU Group's project department called asking how we plan to handle this."
"Ms. Green couldn't reach you, so she called me several times. She doesn't seem to be doing well."
Theodore quickly scanned through it, his frown deepening.
If this wasn't handled properly and LU Group canceled the contract, Baker Corporation would have to pay a huge penalty.
Not only that, if the plagiarism was confirmed and the company continued working with Chloe, it would negatively impact the company.
The stock market would fluctuate, and the shareholders wouldn't let Chloe off easily either.
Alexander looked at Sienna with concern.
But Sienna remained calm, as if she were an outsider.
She wanted to see how Theodore would handle this plagiarist.
The next second, Theodore put down the tablet and ordered, "Find Ann. As long as she authorizes her work to Chloe, she can name her price."
His words were like a sharp blade stabbing deep into Sienna's heart, the pain almost making her lose control of her emotions.
She didn't want to hear any more and interrupted, "Mr. Baker, since you have urgent business, the divorce agreement..."
"We'll talk another day." Theodore grabbed his jacket and prepared to leave.
"Mr. Baker, my patience is limited. You'd better give me an answer soon."
Meeting her unfamiliar gaze, Theodore felt like something was blocking his chest, making him uncomfortable, but he didn't pay attention to it and just left.
Sienna sat there, watching his figure disappear from the office, unable to snap out of it for a long time.
At that moment, something in her heart died completely.
"Sienna." Alexander called her softly.
"Let's go back. I'll leave the divorce matter to you." Sienna stood up.
"Are you okay?" Alexander asked with concern.
"Yeah." Sienna nodded.
"If Theodore finds out that Ann is you," Alexander looked at her, "what are you going to do?"
"If he finds out, he finds out," Sienna said casually. "But my work will never be authorized to Chloe."
She would make sure to nail Chloe to the pillar of shame as a plagiarist.
Before, she hadn't exposed it because Chloe was the best friend she considered family, so she let it slide again and again.
Now, she wouldn't show any mercy for old times' sake.
