Chapter 2 CHAPTER 2

Michael’s Pov

Just who was that girl and who told her I was staying here.

I heard smooching sounds and rolled my eyes. Jasper and Tamara were at it again.

I turned away from the window as they smooched their way into the penthouse. Jasper peeked from behind Tamara's neck and locked eyes with me. He pulled away from her with a loud smooch.

“Trust Michael Greywood to always ruin the fun.” Jasper scoffed as he put his arms around his mate.

I hissed. “Find another room.”

“Why find another room when we can have the most luxurious penthouse in the city?” Jasper grinned.

“Ugh!” I rolled my eyes.

Tamara sniffed and looked around the room. “A woman was here.”

“Oh?” Jasper quirked an eyebrow.

“There was,” I finished the drink and turned to face them. “Evelyn Moon.”

“Alpha Xavier’s heiress?” Tamara smiled. “What did she want?”

Jasper smiled. “I can tell what she wanted. You have a little lipstick stain on your chin.”

I reached for my chin and he laughed. He played me. Well, they would still know a woman was here without me telling them. Her scent still lingered in the air.

Tamara left her husband on the couch and sat on his lap. “So what did you guys do? Talk?”

“No. I sent her away.” I set down the glass and put my hands in my pocket.

“Why? She willingly came to you. Women rarely do that.” Tamara said.

She wasn't wrong. Women in the pack are inclined to believe that I'm a ruthless animal no one should talk to and I don't correct them. Let them think what they must.

“Don't tell me you actually chased her away,” Jasper scoffed. “How the hell are you going to find a woman if you keep chasing anyone who comes near you.”

“I'm not marrying any woman if she's not my mate. End of discussion.” I hissed.

“What if she was?” Tamara sighed.

“I would feel it. It wasn't her.” I said with a snort.

“Are you sure?” Tamara said.

A low growl rumbled from my chest and I clenched my fist. “Enough about my mate.”

“What will you tell your father?” Both of them rose to join me by the window. “He wants to see the woman you'll marry in two days time.”

“I'll handle it,” I turned away from there.

I was wrong. I couldn't handle it.

I was nearly at my wit's end in my quest for a wife.

Jasper and Tamara took me to bars to “catch some zee’s” and find a “girl for me”. Aside from girls who were desperate to rub themselves against me and have sex with me, I found no one.

We attended a gala hosted by my family's museum tonight. I had less than 24 hours to find a wife. Father was already on my neck and forced me to be here to “mingle”.

I was bored out of my mind and about to turn in for the night when something, no, someone caught my eye.

Evelyn didn't wear anything special but she stood out from amongst the sea of men and women in the hall.

Her neck was adorned with pearls and her pink gown clung to her body in all the right places. She was supposed to look ordinary but she didn't. If anything, she looked magnificent.

She stood by herself, her eyes darting right and left as if she was expecting anyone.

Then he showed up. Wearing a blue suit that hugged his muscular frame and sporting a styled black hair buzzed at the side. He wrapped his arm around her waist and pulled her in for a kiss.

My fists clenched and I almost lunged forward when a hand touched my shoulder.

“The Whitney's are expecting you,” Jasper said with a whisper. When I didn't respond, he followed my gaze and smiled. “Oh, I see Alpha Roman has set his sights on the belle of the night.”

Less than 24 hours and she's already run to another man. All women are the same.

“They're in the lounge. You coming?” He asked.

“Yeah.”

Just as he left, Evelyn turned and met my gaze.

She blinked but I didn't. I held my gaze, running my eyes down her body like I did the first day we met. Watching her chest heave up and down as she breathed and her lips part was maddening.

Roman called her attention before he whisked her away.

I hissed. That bastard didn't deserve her. And what the hell was she doing with him?

I turned on my heels and walked to the lounge.

The Whitney's were as I suspected, lowlife sleazeballs who were desperate for connections even if it would cost them their soul. They were the ones who begged my father to host this gala as a way of giving them an edge in high society. I nearly pulled at my hair when George Whitney bowed again.

I rose to my feet and buttoned my blazer.

“Alpha Michael, you're leaving already?” George asked.

“Yes. I have better things to attend to.” I said.

“Okay.”

I turned away from the hall with Jasper trailing behind me.

“Can you stop following me?” I told him with a sigh.

“Why? Looking for someone?” He said with a smile in his voice.

I turned around and frowned. “What will it take to get rid of you?”

“$50,000.” He smirked.

“Done. Now, get lost.” I rolled my eyes.

He walked away from the hall with a smirk. Then I turned towards the entrance to look for the woman plaguing my mind. And I did just that.

“You'll make me a lucky man tonight, won't you?” A voice I'd recognize to be Roman said.

“Roman, stop… I don't like that.” A girl cried in protest.

My wolf growled within me and I rushed outside.

It was just as I suspected.

Roman was groping Evelyn.

“I'm giving you 5 seconds to get your hands off her.” I hissed.

Roman looked up from Evelyn’s neck and grinned. “Well, look who it is. The man himself.”

“Don't make me repeat myself.” My fists were curled and ready to punch the life out of his fucking face.

“Please, go ahead. I don't see why you'll be interrupting a man and his girlfriend.” He grinned.

My brows furrowed. “What?”

“Tell him to leave.” Roman made her turn to look at me.

Evelyn lifted gaze to meet mine and then she whispered. “Leave us alone.”
