Chapter 3 CHAPTER 3
Evelyn's Pov
I never wanted to be here. If anything I would be at my father's side in the hospital, knitting his sweater. But when Madeline, my stepmother, tossed another dress on my bed and told me to attend the Crown Gala hosted by the Greywood family.
“I told you Michael didn't want me.” I tried explaining to her but she refused to hear me.
“It’s not Michael we're after.” she smirked.
“Then who?” I arched my brow.
“I heard Alpha Roman Reign from the WhiteRock pack will be there.” she told me with a grin.
“Alpha Roman?” I swallowed.
Roman Reigns was a wealthy man alright but he was also the biggest asshole in the world. He goes after anything in a skirt. The last time I saw him he was kissing one of my girlfriend's during our company's anniversary two years ago. Now, I'm going to marry him?
“Mom, can't you choose someone else?” I sighed.
“No. He's willing to even marry you so yes, he's the one for you. Get dressed. We're attending a gala in 10 minutes .” She said then walked away from my bedroom.
I heaved a sigh and collapsed on my bed. “God, I'm exhausted.”
The door creaked open and the asshole of my stepbrother walked in.
“I heard you're meeting Alpha Roman tonight. You excited?” He smirked.
“No. Get out.” I hissed.
“Nah.” he laughed and closed the door behind him.
I pulled the dress off the bed and rolled my eyes. “Get lost.”
“You know, it's funny how mom keeps throwing you to the feet of those men when you can have the real thing.” He grinned.
“Who?” I shot a sideways glance.
“You're looking at him.”
“You're kidding, right?”
Killian leaned in and I shoved him by the shoulder.
“I mean it, Killian. Get out of here. Don't piss me off more than I already am.” I rubbed my throbbing temples.
“I was only kidding,” he scoffed and put his arms around her shoulder. “but will you really go ahead with this?”
“What choice do I have? Dad's in the hospital and our bills are piling up.” I pinched the skin between my eyes.
“You can always say no.” He said.
“I hope you're getting dressed, Evelyn!” Mom called from downstairs.
“You heard mom, get out!”
We got dressed and mom drove us to the gala. Then she left me on my own to “find the man of my dreams.” The man we both knew was waiting for me at the party.
Michael never changed. In fact he was worse than the last I saw him.
He put his arms around my waist and kissed me like I was already his. I couldn't pull away. Everyone was watching.
I managed to push him away when I felt a strong pull.
I whipped my head to the side, searching for the source of this connection. My mate… he was here. He was here. Finally.
“Looking for someone?” Roman whispered behind my ear.
“No.” I shook my head and looked away. Just as we were about to leave, I felt eyes boring into my face and turned ahead.
My eyes met piercing blue ones and I swallowed hard. Michael was here.
“Shall we?” Roman kissed my cheek and before I could stop me, he took me away from there.
I spent the rest of the evening like Roman's arm candy, smiling and talking, mostly smiling thought because he talked to a lot of people. I'd never felt so useless in my life.
When he was done, he pulled me towards the entrance.
“Shall we?” Roman grinned. “I want to get lucky tonight.”
I could only smile nervously and follow him.
Madeline saw me leaving and smiled. She was getting what she wanted. But what about me? What about what I want? I don't want to sleep with a man I don't know for money.
I closed my eyes and prayed something or someone would stop me when suddenly, we heard a loud growl : “I'm giving you 5 seconds to get your hands off her!”
Roman said with a smile. “Well, look who it is. The man himself.”
“Don't make me repeat myself.” Michael said. I was stunned because I've never seen him this upset before.
“Please, go ahead. I don't see why you'll be interrupting a man and his girlfriend.” Roman said with a smile.
Interrupting a man and his girlfriend? What the hell was he saying?
“Tell him to leave.” Roman made me turn to look at him and I swallowed hard.
Oh no.
Roman tightened his grip around my shoulder and leaned down to whisper. “Should I remind you who'll save your family?”
I shook my head gently.
“Good. Then tell him to fuck off.” He smiled.
I turned to Michael. Memories of that night flashed in my head and my face heated up. Michael had embarrassed me. He didn't deserve my attention after humiliating me like that.
I lifted my eyes and whispered. “Leave us alone.”
Michael scoffed. “So that's what you're after? Selling your body to a man who can foot your bills?”
It was my turn to scoff. The asshole!
“You’re the same with all of them.” Michael had a look of disgust on his face. Why was he disappointed in me when he was the one who literally walked me out of the room?
“What the hell is your problem?!” I snapped at him.
“Nothing. I don't know why I even bothered myself.” He turned and walked away.
“Michael!” I tried to go after him when a hand shot out and grabbed me.
“Don't brother about that asshole. Let's get ourselves busy.” Roman grinned and pulled me towards his car.
While in the car, Roman wouldn't stop touching me. His arms ran down my thigh and he even tried to sneak his fingers into my dress. I'd push him away and he'd come back.
He drove to a hotel and gave the keys to the valet.
He even tipped the man and told him. “Yo, I'm gonna get lucky tonight!”
“I bet you are.” The man smiled back.
Okay. That's behind gross.
“Shall we?”
Roman held out his arm.
I hesitated for a second before I linked my arms with his.
Dear Goddess, I hope I know what I'm doing.
