Chapter 4 CHAPTER 4
Evelyn's Pov
We didn't do it.
Roman fell asleep on me the second we walked into the hotel room. He had drunk himself to stupor and boy, was I glad he did.
I snuck away from the hotel room and walked home.
Now, I'm sitting in my bedroom trying to choose between ignoring his calls and answering it.
The incessant buzzing of my phone made me almost hurl it across the room.
“Won't you pick that up?” Xavier asked.
I'd almost flinched when I suddenly remembered he was with me in the garden.
“None of your business.” I turned and rose to my feet.
Apart from being an annoying brother, we tied to make sure we were joined to the hip. Literally. He follows me everywhere except the bathroom.
The phone stopped ringing and I sighed. Why won't Roman leave me alone?
“Well, whatever the issue is, it's none of my business. Let's go.” Xavier said, extending his hand to me.
I swatted it away and walked out.
Xavier drove me to college and even waited till I got out of the car.
“Have a lovely day, Evie.” He winked at me.
“Grow up!” I slammed the door shut and walked towards my department building. I was already late for the class and the asshole was acting all lovey dovey with me. Sicko.
I'd made it to the lecture hall just in time for the seminar.
Jolene had sent me a text about an impromptu lecture that'll be held by a “top-notch” CEO. I was really passionate about business and had hopes of reviving dad's company so I needed all the tips I can get.
I'd just brought out my book when Jolene slid into the seat next to me.
“Hey, pretty girl.” She smiled and leaned in for a hug.
I hugged her back and returned to my seat. “You're late.”
“Nope. I'm 5 minutes early,” she shrugged. “Besides, the CEO won't be here till a few minutes.”
“You have to tell me who this CEO is,” I smiled. “I haven't seen any brochure about this.”
“It's an in-house meeting. I think he's close with our professor or something.” She explained.
“Professor Clara? Hmmm could he be her boyfriend?” I furrowed my brows.
“I don't think so. I've never seen Alpha Michael with any woman before.” She said.
“Wait. What?”
Professor Clara mounted the stage with a mic in her hand. She smiled sweetly to the audience as she began in a solemn voice.
“Good morning, ladies and gentlemen and welcome to the in-house business meeting. I am your host, Clara Kingsley and with me here on stage is the current CEO of Greywood Legacy Group. Shall we rise for a standing ovation, please.”
Everyone leapt to their feet. In a matter of seconds, a thuderous applause echoed around the hall. Then he walked in.
It wasn't a show of pride or power. He didn't need them. He was them.
He had a sharp jawline curved with authority, jet-black hair cropped at the sides but long enough to be styled to perfection. His full, defined lips were set in a cold, impassive line. What made me nearly drool was his eyes. Those deep blue eyes that sucked me in. The tailored slacks that matched them and the white shirt that stretched across his chest, clinging to every muscle. He wasn't wearing a suit yet he looked simply divine.
Professor Clara gave him a big smile and gestured to the platform.
Michael took slow, powerful strides towards the podium, each step soaking up the applause that still hadn't stopped. Even Jolene was screaming her ears out beside me.
He was well respected as he was feared. No man on earth can combine those two factors but he did.
Then he looked around the crowd as if searching for something. I nearly ducked to hide myself but Jolene wouldn't budge.
His gaze landed on mine before I could sit down and he held up a hand. The hall went dead silent.
Without taking his eyes off me, he began. “Good morning, ladies and gentlemen and welcome to the in-house meeting.”
I ran out of the hall the second the meeting ended. I don't know why I did but when I remembered the look he gave me in that room, I knew something was up.
If there was anything my mom taught me, it was to run when you smell trouble.
I made it to the parking lot and texted Jolene to meet me there. I sold my car to pay some bills in the house so most of the time I take a cab to school or she'll drive me. Xavier only does so he wouldn't look like an asshole in front of his mom.
While I waited for her, I didn't notice the footsteps coming behind me until a hand grabbed my ass.
I screamed and turned to see who it was that touched me and my blood froze — Roman. How the hell did you find me?
“Hey, babe.” He grabbed my face and tried to kiss me but I turned and his lips brushed my cheek.
“What are you doing here?” I took a step back.
He wouldn't stop grinning. “You wouldn't answer my calls so I tried asking your mother and she told me you'd be in school.”
Damn it, Madeline!
“Yeah. I couldn't take your calls. I was in class.” I swallowed, still feeling the pain from the ass he grabbed.
“You were in class last night?” He scoffed. “Honey, I've calling your phone since last night. You left me in that hotel room.”
I shrugged. “You were wasted and I didn't want to bother you so I had to leave. As far the calls, I went to bed early.”
“That's too bad,” he clicked his tongue. “Well, we’ll make up for lost time, eh? Come on. My friends are waiting.”
I moved back when he reached for my hands. “Jolene is waiting for me.”
“Jolene can wait. I'll take you. Come on. Let's go have fun.” He grinned as he pulled me away.
The smell of alcohol and cigarette smokes greeted us as we entered the lounge of Greywood Towers.
Roman's friends were already in the lounge when we arrived.
Girls wearing clothes that barely covered their ass was giving one of them a lap dance. Another was literally making out with his girlfriend or whoever she is, on the couch and the others shared a cigar.
The one getting a lap dance looked up and smiled. He gently pushed he girl aside and crossed the room to greet Roman.
“My man!” They slapped each other's backs loudly and I almost winced.
When they pulled away, Roman laughed and drew me close.
“Hey, guys,” he said to his friends. “Meet Evelyn Moon, my wife-to-be. Evelyn, meet my friends”
“Hey, Evelyn.” The one who hugged Roman said. “I'm George.”
When I shook his hand, he leaned down and pressed a light kiss to my knuckles.
The one who'd been making out introduced himself as Adam. The rest were Kimberly, Williams, Victor and a few others names I couldn't remember.
“Let's get ready to party!” He yelled.
Michael's Pov
I'm not the type to chase after a woman but the second I laid my eyes on Evelyn, I wanted her.
I couldn't figure the tight feeling in my chest until I saw her in that lecture hall. Red curly hair, wide green eyes and full parted lips. I clenched my fist to tame every raw instinct within me. My wolf was teetering towards the edge and so was I. The question was : why do I feel this feeling when she's not even my mate.
The second I ended the lecture, she dashed out of the lecture hall as if she didn't want to be there in the first place.
Did she hate to? Well, I said awful things to her last night but still… she was the one following another man.
“Fuck!” I hissed as Jasper and I walked to the BMV.
“What's wrong?” He asked, taking my briefcase.
“Nothing.” I lied and power-walked to the car.
“You sure?” He asked me in a sing-songed manner.
“Yes.” My phone buzzed in my pocket and I whipped it out.
Father was calling. Dammit!
I answered and turned away from Jasper. “Hello, father.”
“Yes, son. I've been meaning to call you all morning. I need you at the hotel right away.” Father replied.
My brows furrowed. “Is something wrong?”
“Not at all,” I could hear the smile in his voice. “I've found you a wife.”
“What?”
“Be at the hotel in 10 minutes. Look nice.” He said then ended the call.
I peered at my phone like I'd never seen it before. What did he just say?
“What happened?” Jasper asked as he came up beside me.
I put my phone away. “Father just found me a wife.”
“Woah. Isn't that good news?” He asked.
“No.”
I grabbed my jacket and drove straight to the hotel.
Father and his guests were waiting for me in his penthouse but I made a detour to the lounge when one of the staff informed me of some noise pollution in the lounge.
I could've easily overlooked this issue but I needed all the distraction I could get.
I followed the petite brunette to the lounge and pushed the door in.
The sight before me made my blood boil.
Sitting beside Roman with a glass of alcohol trembling in her hand was Evelyn.
Roman leaned in and tried to kiss her but she turned her cheek. That annoyed him and he raised his hand at her. It was then I interrupted.
“Touch her and I'll break those hands!” I snapped.
All heads turned to face me.
Roman scoffed and leaned back in the couch. “Are you stalking us now, Greywood? I didn't know you were this obsessed.”
Evelyn's eyes dropped to mine and they looked like she was about to tear up. Did this bastard touch her?
“Are you hurt?” I ignored Roman and asked her.
She shook her head and turned. “I'm fine.”
Still acting defiant?
I crossed the room to where she always and grabbed her arm.
“What are you doing?” She gasped.
“Getting you out of here.” I said, pulling her behind me.
“Hey!” Roman yelled as he rose to his feet. “Just what the hell do you think you're doing to my wife-to-be?!”
“She's not your wife-to-be! She's mine!” I don't know when those words formed in my mouth or how they left but I knew I wanted Evelyn and no one else.
“What are you doing?” She whispered behin
d me.
“Giving you an offer you can't refuse.” Then I claimed her lips with mine.
