Chapter 3 He's my mate!

Lyra's POV

The Alpha's son kept walking closer and every step he took made my heart thump with fear. I was doomed. His face shifted to me with recognition as he looked at me and his gaze turned cold and unforgiving.

I forced myself to take my gaze off him, a lump forming in my throat as I swallowed hard.

He's the Alpha's son. He isn't just rich, he's also powerful.

Memories of what I had done the previous night kept coming back to me and I kept groaning inwardly. I should have just let him do whatever he wants to the waiter, I shouldn't have intervened.

His voice which rose snapped me out of my reverie.

He stared at my mother with disgust on his face. “Is she the one?” He asked.

The Alpha chuckled. “Meet Aurelia, my Luna. And her daughter, Lyra. She works as a maid here” The Alpha did the introduction, getting me more embarrassed.

I kept my gaze lowered, not being able to look into the Alpha's heir's gaze.

“Lift your head!” His sharp voice rose, booming across the whole room.

My heart thumped in my chest so hard and I kept swallowing. Before I could raise my head, Mother's voice rose.

“Heir, do you know her from somewhere?” She asked.

Even with the way I had my gaze lowered, I could see the way he snapped his gaze to my Mother.

“I wasn't talking to you!” he snapped.

“She's your stepmother now, Kael!” The Alpha snapped back at him. “You shall show her some respect, and your stepsister too!”

Kael…. No, lord Kael laughed. “Stepsister?”

“I said to lift your gaze!” He barked and I lifted my gaze immediately.

My eyes locked with his and tears were already in mine. He chuckled darkly. “You remember me, don't you?”

I tried to speak but couldn't. Of course, I did. I almost landed a slap on his face yesterday. I smashed his wallet to the floor and stepped on it. I ruined his shoes yesterday.

When he saw that I didn't say anything but was just lost in thought, he turned his gaze away from me back to his father.

“I already told you we don't need them! You don't need a Luna” he said with his gaze darkened.

“Kael….” The Alpha started. “I've mated with her, there's nothing…..” Before the man could finish speaking, he cuts in.

“I'll accept her as my stepmother but not this girl” His voice was sharp and stern, sending shivers down my spine. “She shall not be elevated from the status of a maid to a princess!”

The alpha wanted to speak but my mother's voice beat his. “Of course, that's fine” she didn't hesitate a bit and said the words with a smile.

I would have gotten angry or sad if I was interested in any of those titles in the first place but I wasn't. Being a maid was fine, I had always tried to live with it.

“That's it, then” The alpha said.

He exited with his Luna, leaving me alone with the Alpha heir.

I was getting more nervous in the presence of the Alpha's heir. I quickly bowed slightly to him, summoning my lost courage to speak some words. “I'll take my leave now”

I turned to leave but before I could land my second step, he held my hand.

“Where do you think you are going?” He asked.

My breath hitched. “I have a lot of work that needs to be done, sir” I replied politely, still keeping my head bowed.

“Did you plan it?” He asked.

“I don't understand what you mean, sir,” I replied.

“Your mother is a whore who is trying to take all my father's wealth” He smirked. “You both are planning it, aren't you?”

“That’s the reason why you were at the bar last night,” he added.

“I don't know what you are talking about.” I sucked in a deep breath. “My mother is not a whore! And we are not planning anything!” I spat, trying to keep my gaze down because those eyes dripped with hatred at the moment.

He stared at me for a while, his gaze dripping with so much amusement that they made me tremble inwardly.

“You want to become the Alpha's stepdaughter that much?” He laughed. “Because you were born nothing but a lowly Omega?”

His words made my insides boil. I clenched my fists but decided to hold everything back in.

He's the Alpha's son, there's no way I would win against him.

“I really think you are taking it all wrong” I said gently. “I also don't want to be your step-sister, I just couldn't stop my mother from getting mated to the Alpha”

“And why should I believe you?” He asked.

He surely hates me. And right now, I'm trapped in the same house with him. I'm a maid and he's the Alpha's heir.

I should stay silent but I just couldn't bring myself to. I lifted my gaze to him and my eyes darkened.

“Look.” I called casually. “I understand that you must be angry at me for what I did the previous night but I won't be apologizing”

“You were wrong and all I did was try to correct the situation, I didn't do anything wrong” I added.

He laughed maniacally. “You have some silly boldness up your sleeves and I like that”

“Let's see how long you can keep saying that,” he said. “I'll make this estate hell for you, look forward to it”

I folded my fist in anger. It had been hell enough but he was going to make it more hellish.

Suddenly, the tension between us heightened as I felt a strange overwhelming pull that made me lock my gaze with the man in front of me.

I could sense the change of our scents and from the way lord Kael also stared at me, I could tell it's what I'm thinking.

No! That can't be! This has to be some cruel mistake. My stepbrother can't be…..

Mate. He's my mate.
