Chapter 4 I can't accept you
Lyra's POV.
No, it can't be. My eyes blinked as I stared into lord Kael's eyes and he stared back at me with the same expression on his face.
He was also surprised but a few seconds later he masked the surprise in his face.
“Leave!” He said, his voice restless.
No way I was leaving like that! “You are my mate” I voiced the words out.
His jaws clenched. “Don't believe that, it can never happen”
I blinked. He was denying the pull and I could see how restless he felt at the moment.
“We can't be mates. There must be a mistake somewhere” he said, his gaze darkened.
Yes. I also thought as much. No way I'm supposed to be mates with this rude brat standing in front of me.
He moved a step closer to me and his face which was now so close made me shiver.
“Don't go around telling people I'm your mate” he paused. “It won't work between us”
I retorted back immediately. “Yes. I also wasn't going to do that”
That was a very polite way of saying I also didn't need him to be my mate.
“Why don't we break the bond now?” I asked. “Then we would have nothing to do with each other”
“We should,” he smirked.
“What is your name?” He asked, his voice commanding.
“Lyra. Lyra Drake” I responded without hesitation.
He straightened his back and lifted his gaze to look into my eyes. “I, Kael Robinson, reject you, Lyra Drake as my mate”
I was ready for the bond breaking to hurt but nothing happened. Wasn't it always like this in books? I've also heard from people who have been mated and rejected.
Or was it because I haven't accepted the rejection yet?
“I, Lyra Drake, accept the rejection” I said but still nothing happened.
I kept my eyes on lord Kael and he looked confused, his eyes darting from my face to the floor.
“What's happening? Why isn't it breaking?” He asked, though the question wasn't directed to me because I also didn't know.
Something should hurt inside me. It should feel like life was being drained out of me or a part of me was being snatched away but I was perfectly fine.
“Let's do it again” he lifted his gaze and we held each other's eyes.
“I, Kael Robinson reject you, Lyra Drake as my mate” he said but then again, nothing.
“I accept the rejection” I blurted out but I felt nothing. He also didn't feel the change he was supposed to feel.
“Something is wrong somewhere” he snapped. He closed the space between us and grabbed me by the collar of my uniform. “What have you done to me? What did you contaminate my bloodline with?”
I was starting to look terrified and my hands trembled slightly. “I don't understand what you are talking about, I didn't do anything”
“You must have used something on me. Maybe this bond is fake! Or maybe you did something so it won't break”
That's just absurd but I didn't tell him that, not when his eyes were burning with fire at the moment.
“Please let me go, I don't know anything about this” I said, face getting teary.
I hate how quick I'm crying in front of this spoiled stepbrother of mine but I was just too terrified of him at the moment.
“How are you feeling?” He asked. Not because he cares but because he's trying to figure out where things went wrong with us.
“Just…. Normal” I stuttered.
“It should feel like I'm drifting away from the pull from you” he tightened his grip on my collar. “But it feels like I'm being drawn closer!”
The way he said it while looking into my eyes with his own filled with venom, it made it look like I was to blame for this.
The moon goddess did the most cruel thing to me just now by making him my mate. It wasn't a mistake and it wasn't fake, we both felt it and we knew it.
But we need to break it. I can't stand him and he can't stand breathing the same air as me. But now what happens when the bond refuses to break?
Could it be….. because I'm wolfless and just an Omega? But those things never had to do with finding a mate, accepting the bond or rejecting it.
The sound of footsteps that approached made us snap our gazes to the side at the same time.
A lady was approaching, dressed regally in a long floral gown that speaks luxury. She had a smile on her face and her eyes were fixed on us.
There were two escorts following behind her, both ladies but they looked like they were skilled fighters from the way they dressed.
Lord Kael looked at me and leaned closer before the lady got to us. “We will find a way to break this bond later! Don't you dare tell anyone about it, there's no fucking way I'm accepting you as my mate!”
I only blinked my eyes and watched as he let go of me.
The lady got to us, stopping in front of lord Kael. Her gaze darted to me before it moved back to lord Kael.
“Welcome, Kael. I heard you were back and came rushing” she said.
She's of high status, someone I'd never be in her class. Her two escorts bowed to lord Kael before they took a few steps back to give them space to talk.
I also should, but I couldn't bring my feet to move and I didn't know why.
The lady turned to me. I've seen her around the estate a few times whenever she comes to visit the Alpha and now I'm just recognizing that she's the one.
Her eyes cascaded over me with disgust. “It looks like you are having trouble dealing with her”
“It's too early to waste time on trash like her, don't you think?” She smiled at lord Kael.
Trash. The word got me clenching my fists and tightening my jaws. Yes, that's what I've always been called but it was just so fucking hard to get used to it.
