Chapter 4 Teasing her

Raymond Dantata POV

She took a step backward, her defense starting to crumble. Good. “But… but things do not have to be like that, right? I… I mean—”

I enjoyed this power I had over her more than I should have. I continued to walk towards her like a predator cornering his prey. “What do you mean, Alyssa?”

She swallowed hard. “Maybe I will call my father to arrange a house for me. We do not have to live together, right?”

She sounded so hopeful at the thought that she could arrange a house for herself. It was very insulting. Women fought for the chance to live with me, and yet this alpha daughter, this prim northern girl, would rather call her father and let him buy her a house here.

It was fucking insulting, I thought furiously.

“Sorry to disappoint you, Alyssa.” I tried to douse my fury and gave her a reassuring smile. “But the moment you stepped on Royal Pack soil, you are already under my protection. And I will not like you to be on your own. Royal Pack City can be dangerous.”

Reluctant respect showed in her eyes. My anger started to build up again. As if in the past hour that she had been with me I had never proven that I was a gentleman. However, the thought of stripping her and ravishing her on my table…

“Very well,” she said regally, though her eyes still held defiance in their depths. “It is maybe a good chance to get acquainted with each other very well.”

I tried to hold back my smile but I felt my mouth twitch.

“How can I arrive at your home, Raymond?”

It was the second time she said my name. I frowned. Was it good that I kept counting it?

“I will instruct my chauffeur to drive you to my penthouse building.”

She nodded like she was giving her servant permission.

She moved forward while I was about to pick up the telephone and offered her hand. “It was nice meeting you, Raymond Dantata.”

I was stunned by the gesture but accepted the offered hand and felt an electric shock. I looked at her eyes and was damn sure that she felt the same. “All pleasure is mine, Alyssa Augusta.”

She snatched her hand back as if she was burned by the touch. I could not blame her; I felt the same way. She started to walk through the door with her killer heeled boots. “One more thing, Raymond?”

“Yes?”

“Are you currently attached to someone else or dating?”

I should have expected that question earlier. I smiled and answered honestly. “No. Not at the moment. And you?”

“No.”

With that, the alpha daughter walked without a backward glance and left me staring behind her.

I stood there for a long moment after the door clicked shut, the faint scent of her perfume still lingering in the air. Something clean and floral, with a hint of something sharper underneath. Like her. Prim on the surface, but I could already sense the storm brewing beneath.

I walked back to my desk and dropped into the chair. The picture of Alyssa still glowed on my screen. The one from the tabloids. Laughing in a short red dress, hair wild, green eyes sparkling with mischief. That woman looked nothing like the ice queen who had just barged into my office and announced herself as my fiancée.

Interesting.

I picked up my phone and dialed my driver. “Take Miss Augusta to the penthouse. Make sure she settles in. And tell Maria to have the guest room ready.”

“Yes, sir.”

I leaned back and stared at the ceiling. My father thought this arrangement would strengthen ties between the packs. He saw it as a smart political move. I saw it as a headache wrapped in a beautiful package.

But now that I had met her, the headache felt… different. She was not what I expected. No flirting. No demands. No spoiled tantrums. Just cool green eyes and a straight spine that made me want to see how far I could bend it.

I smiled slowly.

Tonight we would have dinner. I would watch her closely. Listen to every word. Notice every little slip.

Because something told me the real Alyssa Augusta was hiding more than just her wardrobe choices.

And I always enjoyed unwrapping secrets.

Especially when the package looked like her.

My phone buzzed. A message from my assistant about the rescheduled board meeting. I ignored it for now. My mind was elsewhere. On a pair of emerald eyes that had flashed with defiance even while her voice stayed perfectly polite.

I stood up and walked to the window. The city stretched out below, glass towers catching the afternoon sun. Somewhere in that concrete jungle, my unexpected fiancée was being driven to my home.

To my penthouse.

Where she would sleep under my roof tonight.

The thought sent a low heat through my veins. I was not used to wanting something I had not chosen for myself. But this woman, this proud alpha daughter had walked in and challenged me without even trying.

I adjusted my tie and grabbed my jacket.

Time to prepare for dinner.

I wanted to see how long it would take for that ice to crack.

And what would spill out when it did.
