Chapter 4 chapter 4
Chapter 4
“Natalie, what do you plan to do now, given that you have ended your relationship with Jason?” Clara asked as she served her family breakfast.
“Mom, Dad, I was thinking of enrolling in a medical college, but I don’t want to do it in Sterling City. I want to go somewhere far away and start my life afresh.” Natalie.
Although she had parted ways with Jason, he was still a big part of her life. She was afraid that if she stayed in this city, she would never be able to move on, and she might find herself crawling back to him.
She needed to go somewhere new so that she could force herself to forget about that man and live life on her own terms.
Clara and Tyron looked at each other before they nodded in unison.
Tyron spoke up, “Baby, you are right. We think that going somewhere new will help you deal with your pain. I have already made contact in a few places, and once everything is finalized, then we can move there and begin life on a fresh start.”
Natalie frowned, “Dad, what are you even saying? You guys want to move too?”
“Of course, baby,” Clara nodded, “How can we let you face everything all on your own?”
“But you guys have already built your life here. Dad is the best surgeon this city has, and mom, will you bear to leave your students behind just because of me?”
“What is wrong with that? There are so many universities across the world, and I can always find a teaching job anywhere.”
Tyron echoed, “Yes, baby, with my credibility, any hospital will be honored to have me on board, so there is nothing for you to worry about.”
“But…” Natalie was about to say something when the smell of eggs hit her nostrils. She stood up and rushed to the washroom, leaving her parents looking at her with dumbfounded expressions.
“What just happened?” Clara asked as she spread her arms.
Tyron frowned, “I hope it is not what I am thinking it is.”
With Natalie puking her guts out, only then did she remember that she was actually pregnant. So much had happened that the news of her being pregnant completely slipped through her mind.
Natalie looked at the mirror and she almost failed to recognize herself. She tried to smile, but she ended up shedding tears.
“What have you gotten yourself into, Natalie? Did you have to get pregnant at this time?” Natalie asked herself.
She did not know what she was going to tell her baby once it was born. Will she tell her baby that they were rejected even before his father knew of their existence?
Wait… What if she told Jason that she was pregnant? Would that change things between them? Will it make him cancel their divorce?
Well, maybe she should see him one last time. Maybe this baby might just change things between them.
Having made up her mind, Natalie washed her face and left the washroom. She was going to tell Jason about the baby and give him one last chance. If he still insists that they part ways, then she won’t force herself on him.
Natalie returned to the dining table and realized that her parents were looking at her with weird gazes.
Natalie awkwardly touched her nose, “Sorry, that was rude of me.”
“Baby, are you okay? Are you having an upset stomach?” Tyron asked as he looked at his daughter with a worried expression.
Natalie did not know if it was right to break the news to her parents just yet. Maybe she should wait until she spoke to Jason before telling her parents.
She rubbed her stomach and spoke, “Yes, Dad, my stomach has been feeling funny lately. I am always bloated. I even dewormed, but nothing changed much.”
“Are you sure? Should I examine you?”
“No, Dad. I will be okay.”
The taste of breakfast was really off, but since her mom woke up early just to prepare it for them, Natalie forced herself to have a few bites.
Once she was done, she looked at her parents, “Mommy, daddy, I am really in a bad mood, so I was planning to go shopping in a few hours to come. You guys are on holiday today, so you don’t have to worry about me.”
“It is okay, baby. Your cards are still active, and if it won’t be enough, just call us and we will help you pay.” Clara nodded.
“Thank you, mommy.”
When Natalie married Jason, she stopped her parents from giving her the monthly allowance. She said that since she was married, her husband would be the one to take care of her.
But her parents never stopped depositing money in her account just because she told them not to.
And now, Natalie has just found a perfect alibi.
After having breakfast, Natalie headed to her room. Clara looked at her husband and questioned, “Are you sure?”
“Although I am not a gynecologist, our baby girl is definitely pregnant. She has always loved sun-side eggs, but she barely had a bite. I hadn’t noticed it earlier, but when she returned from the restroom, her face was slightly pale. Looks like she is under a lot of pressure.”
Clara’s face clouded with worry, “We shouldn’t have let her get married to that spoiled brat. She is now paying the price for her stubbornness.”
Tyron nodded, “I always knew that those two were better off friends, but your daughter is just as hard-headed as you. I always hoped that things would change between them, but it looks like my worst fears still came true.”
Tyron looked at his wife and continued, “Anyway, what is the point of talking about it now? All we can do now is support our daughter the best way we can.”
…
Natalie changed into a pink dress. It was one of the designs that Jason liked, and he had always told her that pink looked good on her.
She applied simple makeup to hide the haggardness on her face, took her purse, and left the house.
Her parents had already asked the driver to prepare the car, but Natalie did not board it. She knew that her parents did not believe her a hundred percent, and they wanted to keep an eye on her using the driver.
Natalie looked at her driver and smiled brightly, “Hey, Andrew, I actually forgot my card on the coffee table. Could you please grab it for me? I will wait for you in the car.”
Andrew, the driver, nodded without suspecting anything, “Sure, ma’am.”
The moment he entered the house, Natalie rushed towards the gate. Her cab had already arrived.
By the time Andrew returned, Natalie was long gone.
“Where did she disappear to?”
Natalie took out her phone and called Jason. She wanted to know if he was at the office or if he was still at the house.
But after ringing several times, Jason did not answer.
Looking at the time, Natalie thought that she would just go to the company first, and if he was not there, then she would go to his house.
“Where is your boss?” Natalie looked at Jason’s assistant and asked.
“Boss hasn’t shown up yet. Didn’t he spend the night at home?”
“Uhm…” Natalie did not want to say that they had divorced, so she thought of a random excuse and spoke, “I actually spent the night at my parents' house, and I just came directly to the office.”
While Natalie was still speaking to Jason’s assistant, footsteps were heard. They both turned around and saw Jason and Vivian walking over. They were holding hands as they conversed happily.
The sight of them made Natalie feel like she had swallowed a bitter pill. It was so bitter that she felt tears prick her eyes.
She regretted wanting to see Jason one last time. Looks like he had already moved on.
Jason did not expect to see Natalie in front of his office so early in the morning. He immediately let go of Vivian’s hand, and his heart felt uneasy.
He did not know why he was feeling like his wife had just caught him cheating.
He walked over and spoke to Natalie, “What are you doing here?”
Natalie did not know what to say. All the words that she had planned to say were stuck in her throat, and they refused to come out no matter how hard she opened her mouth.
She looked at Jason and Vivian, her mind blank.
After what seemed like forever, she looked at Jason and spoke in an emotionless tone, “It is nothing. I… I was just passing by, but it looks like I came at the wrong time.”
With that, Natalie left the company without looking back. No matter how much Jason chased after, she did not stop.
Once she was outside the tall Thompson company building, Natalie gave it one last, long look and said, “Jason, from today onwards, I completely remove you from my heart and my life. Thank you so much for all the pain and humiliation. I hope that you find true happiness with the person you have chosen.”
