Chapter 5 chapter 5

Chapter 5

When Natalie returned home, she locked herself in her room, and no matter how many times her parents called out to her, she did not open the door.

“Honey, what happened to our daughter? Didn’t she say that she was going shopping?” Clara looked at her husband and asked in between tears.

“I don’t know either. Could she have gone to see that man again?” Tyron asked. They had spoiled their daughter ever since she was young, and it hurt them to see her hurt like that.

As they were still speaking, soft sobs came from Natalie’s room. Tyron’s expression changed, and he immediately said to his wife, “I will go and get the spare key.”

When Clara and Tyron finally managed to enter Natalie’s room, they found her curled up in the corner of the bed. Her shoulders were shaking, and it was a clear indication that she had been crying for a good while.

Clara rushed over and hugged her daughter, “Baby, what is going on? What happened? Didn’t you go shopping?”

Realizing that her parents had somehow managed to enter her room, Natalie could no longer control her emotions. She hugged her mother and sobbed out loudly.

“Mommy, I thought that when I let go, it won’t hurt anymore. But I was wrong. When I saw him with her, I felt my world come crashing down, and for a moment, I thought that I was going to die from pain.”

“Shh, cry if you want to. You don’t have to hold back. We are here for you, baby. We are not going anywhere.”

Natalie cried a good one, and by the time she finished, her mother’s clothes were soaked wet with her tears and snot.

Natalie looked at her mother with an embarrassed expression, “I am so sorry, Mommy, I did not mean to dirty your clothes. I… I was just too emotional to think about anything else.”

“It is okay, darling. You don’t have to apologize for anything.”

Tyron looked at his daughter, who had already calmed down, and asked, “Now, tell me what happened? You left saying that you were going shopping, but you ditched your driver, and then you came home crying. What is going on?”

Natalie looked at her parents and decided that it would be better if she just came clean with them. They were the only people who would ever love her unconditionally, and she was certain that they would never judge her.

“Mommy, Daddy, the thing is, I am actually pregnant. I only found out a few days ago. I was excited to share the news with Jason, but that was when I found out that he was back together with his college friend, and he even wanted to divorce me.”

Clara looked at her husband and then at her daughter, “So, you really are pregnant?”

“Yes, mommy. I had this stupid idea that maybe when Jason learns of my pregnancy, it might change things between us, but I was wrong. He… he has already moved on with his life.”

Clara hugged her again, “I am so sorry, baby. But it is good that you have already divorced him. You don’t really need him in your life, and you have us. We will give you all the support that you need.”

“Thank you.” Natalie said as she smiled at her parents, “I knew that I could count on you guys.”

“Of course, you are our precious daughter.”

“But I don’t want Jason to find out about my pregnancy, so I think that my plan to move from this place will be put in motion.”

“It is okay. Your dad has already made all the arrangements, and we are just waiting for you to say the word.”

At Thompson Group of companies…

Jason returned to his office when he failed to catch up with Natalie. The shocked expression on her face when she saw him together with Vivian kept replaying in his mind.

He was with Vivian only because he had spent the night at her place, but nothing happened between them. He did not feel like going home, because he still thought that Natalie needed time to think about their divorce.

But seeing her run away after seeing him with Vivian, Jason felt a bit restless.

He went to his assistant and asked, “Why was Natalie here? Did she tell you why she came to see me so early in the morning?”

“Uhm, boss, your wife said that she had spent the night at her parents’ place, and she just came directly to the office. She seemed to have something important to discuss with you.”

“She spent the night at her parents’ place?” Jason asked.

Could that mean that Natalie had already moved out, or did she go to her parents to tell them about the divorce, and then they forbade her from signing the papers?

Was that what she wanted to discuss with him?

Jason was conflicted. His mind was all over the place, and after realizing that he could not concentrate on anything, he decided to head home, a place he hadn’t been to for a few days now.

“Leon, you will show Miss Swan around. I need to take care of some things.”

Jason left immediately after seeing that. He did not even give Vivian a chance to ask him anything.

Vivian looked at Jason’s departing figure and a small smile tugged at the corner of her lips.

“Jason, our life will get interesting from today onwards.”

When Jason arrived home, the house was shrouded in silence. It was like an abandoned house as the silence echoed in his heart.

He looked around and, after not seeing anything suspicious, he headed to the bedroom.

He opened the door, and cold air assaulted his nose. There was no warmth, and it appeared as if it had not been occupied for a few days now.

‘Could Natalie have moved out already?’

Jason mumbled as he turned on the light.

He looked around, and the bedroom was clean. The bed was neatly done, and nothing seemed out of the ordinary.

His eyes landed on the coffee table in the room, and seeing some papers lying there quietly, Jason’s heart skipped a beat.

Could Natalie already have signed the divorce papers? Well, that could have been fast, given how much she loved him.

He walked over and took the papers, and indeed they were the divorce papers. He flipped through the pages and, seeing that Natalie had signed them on the same day he brought them to her, his heart chilled.

Natalie had really divorced him. She had not even hesitated, and she had not even bothered to call him to tell him that she had already left.

Jason thought that this was supposed to be the happiest day of his life, but why didn’t he feel an ounce of happiness?

Why was his heart feeling as if it had been ripped out of his chest with a blunt object?

As he was still recovering from his shock, he received a call from his father.

He sounded a bit agitated as he shouted through the phone, “Jason, bring your ass home right away!”
