Chapter 11
Faye's sharp eyes and bold demeanor made it clear she wasn't someone easy to get along with.
She glanced briefly at Amelia before shifting her gaze to William, a hint of surprise in her eyes.
Even though Bianca had already informed her about this, seeing William here in person was still quite shocking.
"Mr. Brown, it's quite an honor to have you here," she said with a hint of sarcasm.
She had invited him countless times before, but William had never shown up.
William nodded slightly, not saying much.
Faye didn't seem bothered, leading the way with Bianca following closely behind, whispering something to her.
Bianca said, "The castle ahead was bought by Joseph Jackson, Faye's father, for a billion dollars a few years ago. They usually use it for small gatherings and parties," Bianca explained quietly.
Amelia pushed William forward slowly, curiously taking in her surroundings.
She had never been to a place like this and found everything fascinating.
Seeing her interest, William began to explain the surroundings to her.
They crossed a small arched bridge over a creek, surrounded by numerous trees.
Ahead was the main building, the venue for today's party.
Before they even entered, they could hear soft music playing inside, with small groups of people chatting quietly.
As Faye and Bianca entered, everyone knew the show was about to start.
Within minutes, Amelia appeared before the crowd.
"Isn't this the country girl? Why don't you share some of your countryside stories with everyone?" someone sneered.
"Bianca, is this the person your family brought back? She seems..."
The harsh words hit as soon as they entered.
Bianca lightly tapped the person, linking arms with Faye. "Scarlett Lewis, don't say that."
Scarlett glanced at her, attacking indiscriminately, "Why shouldn't I? If a fake heiress without any blood ties can be here, why can't I speak my mind?"
Bianca tugged at Faye, looking aggrieved. "Faye, look at her. Everyone's known each other for so long, why bring up my sore spot?"
"Alright, since everyone's here, let's start the party," Faye announced.
Amelia stayed out of it, retreating to a corner and slowly eating a pastry she picked up from a plate. She also grabbed one for William.
The pastry was soft and sweet, melting in her mouth.
She noticed a dice game nearby, where guessing correctly earned a prize, and guessing wrong meant drinking a glass of champagne.
Within minutes, Bianca and Faye approached her. "Amelia, don't just stay here. Come, I'll introduce you to some people," Bianca said, patting Faye's arm, "I may not know many people, but Faye knows a lot."
Amelia swallowed her pastry, glancing at the two. She had noticed earlier that Bianca followed Faye's every command, even drinking several glasses of champagne for her.
"You can play the servant all you want, but don't drag me into it. I have no interest in serving a princess," Amelia said bluntly.
Amelia's words were sharp and to the point, enough to infuriate anyone.
"Amelia, I invited you here out of respect for Bianca. Don't be ungrateful. Don't get too cocky before you even become Mrs. Brown. Be careful, the real girlfriend might come back, and Mr. Brown could dump you in a heartbeat," Faye retorted.
Amelia remained unfazed, turning to William, and said, "Do you have a real girlfriend?"
"No, I don't. I've always been faithful. You're my only fiancée," William replied, holding her hand tightly.
Amelia turned back to Faye and said, "You heard him. He said no."
From a distance, a group of people watched the scene unfold, mentally noting not to cross Amelia. Her sharp tongue and William's attitude towards her made it clear she wasn't someone to mess with.
Just then, someone called out to Bianca, "Bianca, come change your clothes. The dance is about to start."
Bianca quickly excused herself and left.
Faye stayed, crossing her arms over her chest.
A large stage was set up ahead, and within minutes, three girls stepped onto it.
The lead dancer was a girl with bangs, looking quite innocent.
William gave Amelia a brief introduction, "That's Victoria Harris, the Harris family's daughter. The Harris family has strong ties with the government and the underworld. But Ms. Harris has been dancing since she was young and is a regular guest at international dance troupes. Her family says she's quite nice."
As the music started, Victoria seemed to glow, completely immersed in her performance.
As the melancholic music quickened, Victoria's movements became faster and more powerful, like a beautiful painting in motion.
Amelia's fingers twitched with interest.
Compared to Victoria, Faye's performance seemed lacking. Though beautiful and graceful, it felt superficial, just like her personality.
"You came here to meet more people, right? See them? If you had their skills, maybe we'd accept you. Bianca is already an eighth-level dancer," Faye said smugly, lifting her chin.
Amelia suddenly thought Bianca's servitude was quite successful, as Faye seemed proud of her.
Ignoring Faye, Amelia focused on watching the dance.
Apart from Victoria, the other two dancers were unimpressive.
After the performance, Amelia finally spared Faye a glance. "I'm not interested in being a clown for your entertainment. Even if I could dance, I wouldn't do it to fit in with you."
Faye questioned, "What do you mean? Amelia, you..."
Bianca quickly intervened, seemingly trying to smooth things over. "Faye, don't say that. Amelia just came back from the countryside. She doesn't know much and has never learned to dance. Asking her to dance is just embarrassing her."
Her tone was filled with undisguised pride.
Faye calmed down and replied, "You're right. There's no point talking to someone who hasn't learned anything. I was just giving her a suggestion..."
Before she could finish, her eyes widened in shock.
