Chapter 2 Mr. Morgan Is Incapable in That Aspect

Evan froze, his face showing a clear flash of emotion.

"What did you say?" He could barely believe it.

"I said, I want a divorce." Harper looked up and met his eyes directly. "You and Claire already have a child on the way. If I'm not getting out of your way, what am I still doing here?"

Evan stared at her for a long moment, then suddenly laughed. "Harper, don't play hard to get with me. You really think you can walk away from everything the Morgan family has to offer?"

"You're right, I can't." Harper's voice was calm. "So I want 15% of Morgan Corporation."

If Evan believed she had only married him for his family's money, she might as well live up to it.

Evan frowned, about to say something, when his phone buzzed on the table.

Harper glanced over. It was Claire calling.

Evan answered, his voice noticeably softer. "What's up?"

"Evan, I'm so bored here alone in the hotel. Can you come keep me company?"

A woman's pouty voice drifted through the phone. The room was so quiet that Harper caught every word.

The pain in her heart had long since gone numb.

Evan glanced at Harper and lowered his voice. "Sure, I'll be right there."

He hung up and put on his jacket.

He paused beside Harper on his way out. "Go ahead," she said flatly.

Evan gave a slight frown, then walked out.

After he left, Harper went back to the bedroom and opened the wardrobe. One side held Evan's suits and dress shirts. The other was filled with designer clothes and bags he had bought for her.

Evan never asked what she liked. He always picked styles that Claire liked, then said they looked good on her.

Not good on Harper. Good on Claire.

Harper photographed everything and listed it all on a secondhand selling app. She changed into a simple white T-shirt, grabbed her suitcase, and walked out of the bedroom.

She had made up her mind about the divorce. There was no reason to stay any longer.

After leaving the Morgan family home, Harper took a cab to a law firm.

Attorney Hart listened to her request and slid a drafted divorce agreement across the desk. "Mrs. Morgan, take a look and let me know if anything needs to be added."

"Nothing." Harper picked up the pen and signed her name. "And please follow up with Evan. I'd like him to sign as soon as possible."

She stood up to leave when Attorney Hart's phone rang.

He answered, and his expression turned serious.

"Mrs. Morgan, please wait." He set down the phone, looking uneasy. "There are a lot of reporters gathered downstairs. Someone must have leaked that you were coming in today to sign the divorce agreement. I'd suggest you lay low for a bit."

Harper walked to the window and looked down.

Sure enough, dozens of reporters were crowded outside the building entrance.

"Why should I hide?" She turned around, her voice steady. "The divorce is real. I have nothing to hide."

"But I'm worried about Mr. Morgan's side—"

"He's not my husband anymore. What he thinks is none of my concern." Harper picked up her bag and headed for the door.

The moment she stepped outside, reporters swarmed her. Camera flashes went off in her face from every direction.

"Mrs. Morgan, are you here today to file for divorce from Mr. Morgan?"

"Is the divorce related to Claire? Did Mr. Morgan actually cheat on you with her?"

"Claire posted a photo on Instagram showing a diamond ring on her hand. Does that mean Mr. Morgan has already proposed?"

The questions kept coming, each one sharper and more cutting than the last.

Harper stopped, took a slow breath, and faced the cameras.

"First of all, please stop calling me Mrs. Morgan." Her voice was steady and composed. "Second, I have no right to comment on Mr. Morgan's personal life and wouldn't feel right doing so. We parted on good terms."

"So, Miss Wilson, can you tell us why you're divorcing? Was it because of Claire's involvement?" a female reporter pressed, holding out a microphone.

Harper was quiet for a few seconds.

"The reason for the divorce is..." she began slowly, a small smile forming at the corner of her lips, "that Mr. Morgan was unable to meet my needs."

The words landed, and everyone went still, exchanging confused glances.

"What kind of needs are you referring to, exactly?" the female reporter followed up.

"I'm sorry, no comment."

Harper put on her sunglasses, stopped answering questions, and let security escort her through the crowd to her waiting car.

Two hours later, new trending topics hit Instagram:

#Morgan Corporation CEO's performance questioned by ex-wife#

#Evan unable to satisfy wife's needs leads to divorce#

The comments exploded:

"Oh my god, Mr. Morgan is hot AND rich, but he can't... perform?"

"Harper is so bold! How is Mr. Morgan ever going to show his face again?"

"So that time Mr. Morgan and Claire checked into a hotel together, does that mean..."

Meanwhile, in the CEO's office at Morgan Corporation.

Evan hurled his tablet at the wall. The screen shattered on impact.

He called Harper. She had blocked him.

"Has Harper lost her mind?" he said through gritted teeth, his eyes bloodshot. "Get PR on the phone right now. Pull every single trending topic."

His assistant stood nearby, barely daring to breathe. "Mr. Morgan, I've already reached out to the media outlets to take them down, but it's spread too far. I'm afraid it might be..."

"Get Attorney Hart on the phone!" Evan's face was stone cold.

The call connected quickly.

"Mr. Morgan, I've already spoken with Miss Wilson, but she said..." Attorney Hart's voice was hesitant.

"What did she say?" Evan's brow furrowed.

"She said, 'Reporters can write whatever they want. That's their freedom. It's not my problem.'"

Evan clenched his fist until his knuckles went white. "Where is she right now?"

"I'm not entirely sure..." Attorney Hart said quietly.

"Find her. I want her in front of me before the end of the day."

After hanging up, Evan stood at the floor-to-ceiling window, his chest rising and falling with barely contained anger.

This woman. Did she really think she could pull this on him?

In his memory, Harper had always been quiet and soft-spoken. She rarely even raised her voice around him.

Now it was like she had become a completely different person overnight.

The change left Evan unsettled in a way he couldn't quite explain.

His phone rang. It was Claire.

"Evan, I saw the trending topics..." Claire's voice was gentle with a hint of worry. "Miss Wilson really went too far. How could she say something like that about you? Are you okay? Do you want me to come over?"

"No." Evan was in no mood for it. "The reporters are watching our every move right now. It's better if we don't see each other."

"But..."

Claire was about to say something more when a message came through from Attorney Hart.

Harper's location.
