Chapter 5 The Marriage Failed—It Had Nothing to Do with Her

The online public opinion became even more heated than before, with Evan's name once again topping the trending searches.

Evan's company stock price dropped further. His public response had backfired.

His assistant received even more calls but didn't dare approach Evan anymore, only instructing the PR department to do their best to suppress the trending topics.

Meanwhile, Harper had just woken up.

Although she'd been forcibly brought back to the villa last night, which dampened her mood, thinking about how Evan was in a bad mood due to the public opinion made her feel great.

Good mood meant good sleep naturally.

After a good night's sleep, with sunlight already streaming through the curtain gaps onto the bed, she finally woke up.

Opening her phone to see the male lead's public response made her mood even better.

After breakfast, Harper contacted Attorney Hart and met with him.

"Mrs. Morgan, do you want to modify the divorce agreement?" Attorney Hart pulled out the divorce agreement Harper had already signed.

Harper nodded. "Attorney Hart, can Claire's pregnancy test report serve as evidence of Evan's affair to claim more property in the division?"

With Evan's name trending online these past few days, Attorney Hart was well aware of all the news.

After considering for a moment, Attorney Hart looked across at her. "Mrs. Morgan, if you can obtain the pregnancy test report and prove the child is Mr. Morgan's, he would be the party at fault, and you could claim more property."

Harper understood - the evidence had to be solid, leaving no room for denial. "I understand."

Seeing that Harper truly understood, Attorney Hart put the divorce agreement away again.

After they parted ways, on her way back, Harper received a push notification. Seeing the content, she couldn't help clicking on it.

It was an ongoing press conference, with Claire as the main subject.

Though her face looked somewhat haggard, she was still strikingly beautiful. Her well-tailored strapless dress perfectly highlighted her figure, and the jewelry around her neck sparkled brilliantly under the lights.

The pregnancy was still early, not showing yet, so you couldn't tell at all that Claire was pregnant.

While playing the victim in front of everyone, Claire cleverly showcased her beauty completely - clearly everything had been carefully designed.

Claire held a microphone, and after the venue quieted down, her voice carried throughout the room.

"Thank you all for attending this press conference today. I'm holding this conference to clarify some matters. If I don't explain now, everyone will be misled."

"I want to make one thing absolutely clear: I never seduced Mr. Evan Morgan, never destroyed his family, and I'm not his mistress."

"Also, those photos online were deliberately taken from misleading angles, intentionally making Miss Wilson misunderstand my relationship with Mr. Morgan! Making Miss Wilson target me!"

"Miss Wilson filed for divorce claiming Mr. Morgan and I had an improper relationship, and spread false statements - this is all slander! Why should I be blamed for things I never did, why treat me this way..."

"Because of the public pressure, I haven't slept well for days, my mental state is suffering..."

As she spoke, tears slowly fell. She didn't cry loudly - this silent weeping made people feel even more sympathetic.

"Mr. Morgan is here!"

A sudden shout.

Evan's appearance drew everyone's attention, following his movement.

Everyone was waiting for Evan's reaction - actually, his presence here already gave them their answer.

Evan came onto the stage, picked up the microphone and scanned all the reporters. "I'll answer some questions, but before taking questions, I need to say a few things."

"First, I went to the hotel that day because Miss Martinez wasn't feeling well, and I was just taking her there."

"Second, Miss Martinez and I were once in a relationship. We had a good relationship, but due to various reasons, we couldn't get married. Eventually I married Harper. Miss Martinez and I are now friends."

"Third, please don't blame Miss Martinez for the breakdown of my marriage with Harper. This has nothing to do with her."

Harper watched the press conference with a faint mocking smile on her face.

Whatever the reasons, their marriage was a fact. If he really didn't want to marry her, he could have resisted to the end and insisted on marrying Claire.

But he didn't. After getting married, he gave her the cold shoulder while showering Claire with care and attention, the two of them staying entangled. She looked down on him.

Doing something but not admitting it - they even had a child, yet he still claimed nothing happened at the hotel. Who would believe that?

Back home, Harper sent an email to her assistant, telling her to leak news of the collaboration.

Although Harper had been a housewife for three years, revolving everything around Evan, she wasn't some helpless clinging vine - she had her own career.

The studies she'd interrupted three years ago were her elective and advanced studies, not the surface-level education where she hadn't even gotten her undergraduate degree.

Assistant Lily immediately got excited upon receiving the email!

Lily immediately called Harper. As soon as the call connected, she said, "Harper, have you really decided to start working again and look for collaborators?"
