Chapter 2 Let Me Kiss You, Comfort You

James's voice came from outside the door. "Gloria, are you in there?"

Gloria picked up the pregnancy test from the floor. Upon seeing the positive result, tears of joy streamed down her face. She couldn't wait to share this wonderful news with James.

She thought back to the several times before when her period was delayed by ten days, and she had thought she was pregnant.

The disappointment when the tests came back negative—she didn't want James to go through that again.

"Yes." Gloria hurriedly wiped the tears from her eyes and put away the pregnancy test.

She'd better wait until she went to the hospital for a detailed examination and confirmed it before telling James.

She pushed the door open and met James's examining gaze.

"Why are your eyes so red?" James frowned slightly, reaching out to touch Gloria's reddened eyes.

Gloria made up an excuse, "I just read a really sad novel and it hit me hard."

She hooked her arms around James's neck, changing the subject, "You've been on business trips every day lately. Can't you spend more time with me?"

James naturally lowered his head, pressing his forehead against hers, his voice tender. "Once I close this big deal, I'll take some time off to be with you properly. But honey,"

His hand wrapped around her waist, "I miss you so much."

Before Gloria could react, James's burning kiss had already landed on her neck.

It had been almost twenty days since he returned from abroad. James had been busy with work and only got free today. As he held Gloria's soft body, all his exhaustion disappeared in this moment.

However, today Gloria wasn't as cooperative as usual.

Her soft, delicate hands gently pushed against his chest as Gloria said shyly and coyly, "Not today."

She hadn't confirmed if she was pregnant yet. If she really was, after finally having this child, they couldn't take any risks.

James took her hand and kissed it, "Is it your period?"

Gloria nodded, wanting to wait until after the examination to give him a big surprise.

James's eyes were filled with desire as they slowly slid from her slender neck to her pink lips, "Then how will you make it up to me?"

As James laid her body on the bed, Gloria felt a bit nervous.

James always had a strong need for her. Although he was considerate of her in bed, after twenty days of abstinence, his desire was at its peak.

"James, really not tonight."

"Be good, Gloria. I won't do it. I just miss you. Let me kiss you."

James's sweet words wove around her like a spell, leaving her helplessly entangled.

In the midst of their intimacy, James clasped her fingers, kissing her hair, "Gloria, if I made a mistake, would you forgive me?"

Gloria's eyes still carried the lingering moisture of desire, "That depends on what kind of mistake. As long as it doesn't involve matters of principle, I won't blame you, because James is the person I love most."

Though she thought it unlikely, Gloria still gently stroked his cheek and asked. "So James, did you cheat on me?"

For her, that was the only mistake of principle.

Money could be earned again, and jobs could be found again.

But once a man cheated, he was tainted.

She wouldn't want an unfaithful man!

Only the bedside lamp was lit in the bedroom, and James had his back to the light. The shadows made it impossible to see the expression in his eyes.

She only heard his low, hoarse voice, carrying a solemn and serious promise. "Gloria, I love you. I will never betray you."

Gloria got the answer she expected and nuzzled obediently against his neck, "We've been through thick and thin together, supporting each other for eighteen years. If even you cheated, there wouldn't be any good men left in this world."

James stroked her head, "It's late. Get some rest. I'm going to take a cold shower."

Hearing the sound of water from the bathroom, Gloria's emotions couldn't calm down even now.

Her mind was full of that pregnancy test showing a positive result.

If she was really pregnant, would the baby in her belly be a boy or a girl?

Whether boy or girl, James would be just as happy as she was.

When James got into bed, still cold from his shower, Gloria habitually rolled into his arms, murmuring, "James, tomorrow I'll give you a surprise."

James took it as sleep talk, leaning down to kiss her forehead, "Okay, I'll be waiting."

The next day.

Gloria got up and went to the hospital for a series of tests.

The moment the doctor congratulated her, Gloria burst into tears.

Dr. Laura Clark knew how hard this journey had been for her.

For three years, various treatments had never stopped. She had taken ovulation injections several times, each time ending in disappointment.

Laura handed her a tissue, "The fetus is still too small right now. We can only confirm the pregnancy. You must take good care of yourself during the first three months, and we'll do detailed prenatal checkups when it's bigger."

"Thank you." Gloria couldn't wait to share this good news with James.

Even before she retired, James had been hoping for this child.

And now, their dream had finally come true.

She took out her phone but put it back. For something this important, she didn't want to tell him through cold text messages.

She didn't notify anyone and went straight to the company.

Taking the private elevator directly to the top floor executive office, it was time for the morning meeting. She'd slip into his office first to surprise him.

Gloria gripped the chain of her purse tightly, nervous and excited as she pushed open the door to the executive office.

She could already imagine the expression on James's face when he learned about the child.

Would he cry tears of joy like her?

The door opened. Gloria saw the scene before her, and her smile froze.
