Chapter 2 2

I was awake, but my eyelids felt too heavy, too weak to open.

With my vision cut off, my other senses flared to life. My nose caught it first, a delightful, intoxicating scent that filled my nostrils like crushed rose petals and expensive champagne on a sun-drenched island.

That smell alone was enough to make my eyes snap open.

“What is that wonderful smell?” I murmured, sitting upright. But the moment I moved my hands, the sharp rattle of metal echoed through the room, and a violent force yanked me backward.

I was chained to the bed.

My eyes scanned the room and my memories came rushing back.

That blood sucking animal had kidnapped me, and brought me to this….. This surprisingly elegant and well designed room.

As I was still trying to comprehend the gravity of my present situation, soles of shoes clicked against the timber floor.

I looked at the door in anticipation and fear.

The man who walked in, was beyond what my vocabulary could describe.

His sharp cheekbones carved shadows across his pale face, while obsidian-black hair fell carelessly to his shoulders.

His silver eyes were cold and ancient, the kind that looked through people instead of at them. And with the way he looked at me I felt like he was doing just that.

“Who are you?” I threw a question at him, he didn't respond, he only assessed me, and I shivered under his nonchalant gaze.

Now his long legs took two short elegant strides towards me. He sat by my bed and took my hands to his mouth, his fangs piercing the tip of my finger.”

“Ah.” I gasped as it pricked my finger and his tongue licked the blood that came out.

He closed his eyes like he was relishing the taste of my blood and when his eyes opened, they had changed colors to a deep beautiful amber color.

“Your kind isn't extinct afterall.” He smiled.

But his smile didn't reach his eyes, it looked like a wicked devil that had caught its prey.

“Why am I here?!” I bellowed at him.

But he gave no reaction, he looked at me coldly, his pale skin as cold as his expression.

“Answer me!” I yelled once more.

But he gave no reaction and walked out of the room.

I pulled on the chains and screamed but no one came. Why was I here and what kind of monster was he?

Was this all a terrible nightmare?

When the door finally clicked open again, I braced myself.

“Come outside, human,” a strict, gaunt woman commanded from the threshold. She possessed high cheekbones and a refined, if severe, posture.

“I am chained up!” I spat back, aggressively rattling my wrists.

The woman let out a weary sigh and clapped her hands once. Instantly, the heavy metal cuffs vanished from my wrists.

I opened my mouth, but no sound came out. Had she just used magic? The theory that I was trapped in a dream grew stronger.

“Follow me,” she ordered, turning down the corridor. Left with no choice, I trailed after her.

The hallway was stunning, lined with gothic paintings and built from rich dark wood that sparkled as if it had just been polished.

“Where am I?” I asked her, still stuck in confusion

“Salvari.” her reply was sharp.

Salvari? It wasn't a familiar name of a country that I had heard before.

“In where?”

She paused walking as we were about to descend the stairs, “There is no need to know all these things human, it is of no benefit to you.”

“And why is that?”

“Because you will soon be dead.” And with that blunt reply, she began descending the stairs leaving me shocked.

I followed after her, followed her to my death and the sight I met horrified me beyond words.

There were humans sitting down and blood being drained from them, it looked like a hospital but one for draining blood.

One girl looked completely weak and exhausted as blood was being drained from her, I saw marks on her neck, two large red bloody holes. She closed her eyes gently slumping on the chair.

A man dressed like a doctor checked the girl's pulse. “She is dead.”

My blood ran cold.

“Get rid of the body and put this one up,” a voice hissed. I looked toward the speaker—a vampire with cunning, serpent-like eyes and sandy blond hair.

I remembered him, he was the one who abducted me.

“But His Majesty gave strict orders not to let anyone die,” the gaunt woman protested.

“He won't know if you don't tell him.”

“Is that so, Zavier?”

The voice cut through the room like a localized winter. It was deep, freezing, and heavy with an authority that brought the entire room to a dead halt.

The man who stepped forward was dressed like a medieval general, gold stars glittering against a velvet black and red suit.

“Lord Dracleon,” My kidnapper murmured, bowing his head in suddenly in respect.

Dracleon…The name made my stomach drop, it sounded so deadly I was scared.

The Lord ignored Zavier's greetings and walked towards me. His gaze was intense but I didn't look away from him.

As he reached me, his fingers trailed on my cheeks and tucked my short hair behind my ears. I observed our hair was probably the same length.

A shock went through my body, and I gulped a delicious scent filled my nose and made my mouth water….Was it he who smelled this amazing?

“Did I give you permission to bring her here?” His question was directed at the woman, who brought me out of the room I had been chained.

“N—no your majesty.” She apologized, bowing her head in fear.

Lord Dracleon looked at the servants like she was an inconsequential being, he took a step towards her and the woman fell to her knees. Crying, shivering and begging silently.

“I do not tolerate insubordination."

With those words the woman's body caught fire.

I gasped….how..how had that happened? She caught fire with no match or fuel.

Dark magic?

I looked at Dracleon and his silver eyes met mine again. I should be horribly terrified by this man but I didn't even know what I was feeling now.

He towered and I strained my neck to look up at him. His cold emotionless but unearthly handsome features.

“What are you?” My voice was a whisper.

“A vampire.” His lips pulled up into a sinister smile.
