Chapter 1
Sandbar Penitentiary!
In the desolate heart of the desert, three armed helicopters slowly touched down.
"Boss, three more prisoners coming in!"
Inside the base office, David Jones had a cigar between his fingers. His upper body was bare, showing off his muscular arms, while his lower half was covered by a pair of shorts. He kicked back with his legs up and said in a deep voice, "Speak!"
"Category A prisoner, Jace. Smuggled an aircraft carrier, long-term control of the Strait of Malacca, hijacked eighty-six merchant ships. Case involves fifty trillion US dollars, three hundred million recovered so far."
"Category A prisoner, Owen. War crimes, instigated a three-nation war, profited twenty-three trillion US dollars, five hundred billion recovered."
"Category A prisoner, Ryder. Espionage charges..."
David smirked and waved his hand, cutting off his subordinate Scorpion, "The higher-ups want these guys treated the same as before?"
Scorpion nodded.
However, his eyes were fixed on David, his mouth opening as if to speak, then swallowing his words.
David frowned slightly, "If you've got something to say, say it."
Scorpion grinned, showing his white teeth, "Boss, the higher-ups also asked me to give you this document."
The smile on David's face stopped abruptly. What had to come, had come.
He tapped his fingers on the desk.
Scorpion placed a document in front of David.
"Order: Sandbar Penitentiary Commander David to recover all funds from the three suspects mentioned above. Seventy percent of the funds to be submitted to the national treasury, the remaining thirty percent David may handle as he sees fit."
After reading it, David snorted coldly, crumpled the document into a ball, and tossed it to Scorpion, "Tell them Sandbar Penitentiary doesn't want these three prisoners!"
Ten years ago, David had been exiled here by his family.
In ten years, he had built Sandbar Penitentiary into America's top Category A prisoner detention facility.
And he became known as Thunder God!
Over these ten years, countless criminals held here had reformed themselves.
And every criminal who came here, whether their funds were hidden in foreign accounts or treasures buried underground, were all dug up by David and his men.
According to previous tradition, all funds and assets recovered by the base were initially split fifty-fifty. Two years ago, the higher-ups issued a document changing it to sixty-forty. Now, in just one year, it had become seventy-thirty.
Of course, with David's current wealth, money was just a number to him.
What he cared more about was the attitude of the government higher-ups toward him!
He'd worked diligently all these years—if they weren't going to give him a banner, they should at least give him a certificate of merit, right?
But now, no certificate, and they kept squeezing the split tighter and tighter. Did they really think running this base was easy work?
Hearing this, Scorpion immediately got excited, "Boss, I've been saying we should go independent! Yeah, we're not taking these three criminals. Let them take them back."
Just as he finished speaking, a woman's voice suddenly came from outside the door, "Go independent? David, who gave you the nerve? Don't forget, you're just the person in charge of managing the base. Back home, you're not even a director. Who gave you the courage to go independent?"
David laughed out loud, flicked the ash from his fingers, and looked at the newcomer.
Standing before him now was none other than the fiancée his family had chosen for him ten years ago—Scarlett Lewis.
However, ten years ago, when he came to the base, he and Scarlett were both champions—he was the number one male fighter in all US military forces.
She was the number one female fighter in all US military forces!
Ten years later, today, all he'd gained was over a hundred subordinates loyal to him, plus trillions in assets.
While Scarlett had already become a major general.
Thinking of this, David cursed his grandfather Nolan Jones again.
Something must have been wrong with his brain to exile him to this godforsaken place back then!
"Have you thought it through? Are you here today to marry me?" David smiled and reached out to touch Scarlett's face.
Scarlett's eyes showed disdain as she slapped David's hand away, "The gap between us just keeps getting bigger! Let me tell you straight, I'm here today for three things. First, sign this marriage annulment agreement, and the base split stays at sixty-forty like before. Second, your grandfather asked me to bring you a letter. Third, besides recovering the illegal gains from those three Category A prisoners, the higher-ups also want you to go to Seabrook and capture Flame Demon and his crew."
David looked at the annulment agreement Scarlett tossed at him. From the corner of his eye, he glanced at her slender neck and noticed red marks. He picked up a pen from the desk, and while signing, teased, "Getting older, missing men now? Playing pretty wild, huh? S&M? Aren't you afraid of getting strangled by the rope?"
Scarlett clenched her fists and cursed, "Damn it, watch your mouth! I was injured while catching a criminal..."
The word "injured" stuck in Scarlett's throat, too embarrassed to say it.
David laughed, "Got hurt catching Flame Demon, right? I knew you had no man to take care of you, always messing up at critical moments..."
Scarlett suddenly lunged forward.
Before her fist could land on David, he grabbed her wrist, "Agreement's signed. When the funds are recovered, I'll have someone send them to you. Also, we have nothing to do with each other now, so don't try any rough stuff with me! If you dare show off again, I don't mind keeping a room here for you to help me continue the family line!"
Scarlett's face turned bright red, tears welling up in her eyes, "Pervert!"
David pushed her away and snorted coldly, "Wait outside. I'll use your helicopter to get to the nearby airport."
Scarlett left, cursing under her breath.
Scorpion came forward, "Boss, we're taking these jobs?"
David smiled and sat back down in his chair, "I'll be leaving the base for a while in ten minutes. You interrogate the three Category A prisoners. Within three days, get them to talk, then send me the confessions. Notify Team One, have Lizard, Fox, Werewolf, and Laser get ready to come with me to Seabrook."
Scorpion immediately nodded and saluted David, "Got it!"
Scorpion left.
Only then did David open the letter from Nolan.
David, I've arranged another marriage for you. On this trip to Seabrook, go visit the Perez family. Hayden Perez once saved my life. Now his family is facing some trouble. Marry his granddaughter Elizabeth Perez and help the Perez family through their difficulties. The day you and Elizabeth have a child will be the day you return to the Jones family and become the head of the Jones family!
After reading the letter, an image floated into David's mind.
The Perez family?
Ten years ago, he'd actually met Elizabeth when she was only seventeen.
Nolan had good taste—this Elizabeth was indeed purer and more beautiful than Scarlett!
