Chapter 2
Ten minutes later, on the desert ground, sand and gravel trembled as a circular iron door, thirty feet in diameter, slowly opened.
Seconds later, a circular steel platform rose from underground.
On the platform, David stood at the front, wearing a sharp suit, one hand in his pocket, a smile on his face.
Behind him were three men and one woman.
Lizard wore a gray trench coat. Short in stature and rather thin, with sallow skin, he gave off the impression of someone terminally ill.
Fox was dressed in a red leather jacket and high-heeled boots. Though bare-faced, she was strikingly beautiful.
Werewolf was the tallest of the group—six and a half feet tall and two hundred forty pounds. Standing behind David, he looked like a small mountain.
Laser appeared calm, wearing an ordinary gray sweatshirt and gold-rimmed glasses, looking completely harmless.
Several dozen feet ahead, three armed helicopters were ready and waiting.
Scarlett looked at David and his crew on the platform, her disdainful expression growing stronger.
"Damn it! Birds of a feather really do flock together," she muttered under her breath.
David stepped forward, about to board the helicopter, when Scarlett waved him off, "Take your bunch of freaks and ride in the other two helicopters."
David waved his hand, signaling Lizard and the others to head to the rear helicopters, then jumped lightly and grabbed the door of Scarlett's helicopter with both hands.
"What? Think you're not worthy of riding in the same helicopter as me?" David opened the door with a grin.
Scarlett's eyes were full of disgust, "David, could you please have some self-awareness? It's YOU who's not worthy, not me! And you've really fallen far. Ten years, and look at you—still wearing suits? You actually think you're some security captain?"
Inside the helicopter, space was tight.
David squeezed closer to Scarlett, "Can't help it. Grandpa told me to go to Seabrook for a blind date while I'm at it. It's a major life event—shouldn't I dress formally?"
Scarlett glanced sideways, "A blind date? I just broke off our engagement and you're already going on blind dates? Thank God I didn't marry you! Scumbag!"
David smiled, "Scar, we've already called off the engagement. Are you saying I'm not allowed to go on blind dates?"
Scarlett clenched her fists, "We JUST broke up and you're already this eager to date? You're heartless!"
David leaned back in his seat, unconcerned, "Scar, you said it yourself—we broke up. Breaking up isn't the same as being widowed. Of course, if I were widowed, I'd definitely stay faithful to you for three years before dating again."
Scarlett gritted her teeth.
At this moment, she wanted nothing more than to strangle David!
But thinking of her own abilities, plus the fact that David still needed to help her capture Flame Demon, she could only forcibly suppress her anger, turn her head away, and show David the back of her head.
That afternoon at four o'clock, the group left Seabrook Military Airport.
After passing through three checkpoints, they reached the side of the highway.
David had just stopped and pulled out his phone to check the time when he smiled helplessly, "Three hours early."
He'd sent Joshua Thomas a message to pick him up at seven that evening.
Turned out the military helicopters were indeed faster than civilian flights.
Fox smiled and stepped forward, "Boss, why don't we just flag down a car?"
This was a highway—hitching a ride wouldn't be difficult.
David smiled and was about to nod when he heard a car horn behind him.
David turned to see Scarlett driving a Hummer, speeding toward them.
As she passed David, Scarlett hit the brakes. The window rolled down, and Scarlett frowned. Despite her deep prejudice against David, she couldn't ignore the fact that he'd come to Seabrook to help her capture Flame Demon.
"Get in!" Scarlett said coldly.
David put his hands in his pockets with a slight smile, "No need."
Scarlett snorted coldly, "Suit yourself! Just remember, during the operation to capture Flame Demon, you must keep me informed of all your actions."
David said dismissively, "Within seven days, I'll catch him for you. Why would I need to keep you informed?"
Scarlett clenched her teeth, her fingers gripping the steering wheel tightly.
Just then, two black Audis suddenly appeared from the opposite direction.
David looked at the license plates, thinking it was Joshua coming to pick him up, "Damn it, coming to pick me up in these two pieces of junk—I'll have to break one of his legs later!"
He was calculating in his mind when the black Audis stopped, and eight men in black suits jumped out.
David glanced over, saw the guns in their hands, and immediately sensed something was wrong.
"Watch out!" The moment he spoke, David shot forward like an arrow.
Almost simultaneously, Lizard, Fox, Werewolf, and Laser all lunged forward as well.
In an instant, the scene erupted in gunfire.
Scarlett sat in the car, stunned, watching these five people fight bare-handed against eight armed men. After three to five seconds, she finally snapped out of it.
She reached for her service weapon at her waist and got out of the car, ready to join the fight.
She pushed open the door, and when she looked ahead again, of the eight assassins, only one was still alive.
The man was held by the throat by David, "Talk. Who sent you?"
The man stared hard at David, his two broken arms hanging from his shoulders like sticks, swaying left and right.
David's expression didn't change. He raised his left hand, and two fingers stabbed directly toward the man's eyes.
As his fingers entered the man's skull, David held the man's head like a bowling ball with two fingers, pulled it backward, then threw it forward.
As the man's skull separated from his body, David turned around and extended his hand.
Fox pulled a wet wipe from her pocket and handed it to David.
David wiped the blood from his fingers, turned to Scarlett standing by the car door, and said with a smile, "My dear Scar, looks like you'll need to clean up this mess."
Scarlett was completely dazed.
Too fast!
It was just too fast!
All these years, she'd thought David had fallen from grace at the base.
Turned out his abilities were even more terrifying than before.
And of course, these four odd-looking people following him—they might look unremarkable, but each one contained tremendous power.
"Don't call me Scar! I have a name!" Though shocked inside, Scarlett was once again furious at David's special nickname for her.
David laughed heartily.
Just then, an endless convoy appeared on the road ahead.
Leading the way was a Phaeton.
Behind it, dozens of cars—all Rolls-Royce Phantoms.
Seeing this, David's smile grew even wider.
Now that's more like it. If it weren't for him, Joshua would probably still be suffering at the base.
He'd helped him become Seabrook's richest man. Now that he was visiting Seabrook for the first time, if the guy really sent two Audis to pick him up, wouldn't that be disrespectful?
