The first rule of St. Jude's Asylum was simple: don't scream. Screaming meant sedation.

I didn't scream. I counted.

I counted the numbers on the lottery ticket Orderly Marcus was crumpling in his beefy fist.

"Dammit!" Marcus screamed. "One number! I missed it by one damn number!"
