Chapter 10 Meeting Lin Yue
A cold wind blew through the ravaged forest; the corpse of a three-eyed demon bear lay on the ground.
Trees lay toppled, and the traces of the battle were still clearly visible everywhere. Amidst the devastation, Ren Ji stood alone. His body was covered in wounds, his clothes torn. However, the aura he radiated was vastly different from when he first entered the forbidden mountain.
Standing before him were Elder Mo and several elite disciples of the Black Cloud Sect; not a single word was spoken.
They were all still stunned by the sight of the three-eyed demon bear’s carcass; the monster was notorious as one of the rulers of the forbidden mountain. Even core disciples usually avoided it, but now, the bear was dead. And there was only one person there: Ren Ji.
“So you’re the one who killed it?” Elder Mo’s voice sounded calm.
Ren Ji raised his head; he knew lying would be pointless. “Yes.”
The disciples’ eyes widened instantly; some couldn’t even believe what they were hearing.
“Impossible!”
“He’s just a servant!”
“How could he kill a monster of that caliber?” the elite disciples of the Black Cloud Sect whispered among themselves.
Elder Mo raised his hand, and all the disciples fell silent at once. His gaze never left Ren Ji; it seemed as if he wanted to see right into her soul.
Ren Ji felt immense pressure, but she remained standing tall.
A moment later, Elder Mo suddenly smiled faintly as he stroked his long white beard. “Interesting.”
Elder Mo spoke only one word. Yet, it left all the disciples even more confused. Elder Mo usually never praised anyone.
“Ren Ji also killed Senior Zhao Feng, Elder…” one of the elite disciples stepped forward.
Silence fell once more, and everyone’s gaze immediately turned to Ren Ji. However, Elder Mo did not appear angry. Instead, he asked, “Why did you kill Zhao Feng and that monster?”
Ren Ji paused for a moment, then answered honestly. “He wanted to kill me first.”
Elder Mo nodded slowly, as if he had already anticipated that answer. However, before the conversation could continue, a cold aura suddenly descended from the sky.
Everyone immediately turned their heads; a figure in a white robe landed lightly on a large rock. Her long black hair fluttered in the wind.
Her face was as beautiful as a painting, her eyes as clear as a winter moon. However, the icy aura surrounding her made many people afraid to approach.
“Lin Yui!” several elite disciples of the Black Cloud Sect exclaimed.
Ren Ji also turned his head; for a moment, he was at a loss for words. This was the first time he’d seen someone so beautiful. But what was even more surprising was that her aura was incredibly powerful—far stronger even than Zhao Feng’s.
Lin Yue stepped forward, her beautiful eyes sweeping across the battlefield. Then they settled on the carcass of the three-eyed Demon Bear. A hint of surprise flashed across her face. Then her gaze shifted to Ren Ji.
Their gazes met, for some reason. Lin Yue sensed something strange; the young man’s aura felt both unfamiliar and familiar. It was as if an ancient power lay hidden within him.
“Were you the one who killed that monster?” Lin Yue asked.
Ren Ji nodded. “Yes.”
Lin Yue’s eyes narrowed slightly; she clearly didn’t believe him. A servant without a spirit seal? That made no sense. Yet, the evidence right before her eyes told a different story. “Show me your hand!”
Ren Ji frowned. “What?”
“Your hand.” Lin Yue’s voice remained cold.
Although hesitant, Ren Ji finally held out his hand.
Lin Yue touched Ren Ji’s wrist, and a moment later, her eyes widened. There was a very strange energy inside the young man’s body.
That energy wasn’t ordinary Qi, but something far more ancient and powerful.
However, before she could investigate further, the Dragon Emperor’s voice suddenly echoed in Ren Ji’s mind. “Be careful—that girl is no ordinary person.”
Ren Ji immediately grew wary and glared coldly at Lin Yue. “Is that girl one of the dragon hunters?”
Ren Ji and the Dragon Emperor spoke telepathically, so the others couldn’t hear them.
“That girl is stronger than monsters and Zhao Feng,” said the Dragon Emperor.
“I’ve seen her before, but I didn’t dare to look at her this deeply, Sir.” Ren Ji took two steps back from Lin Yue after pulling his hand away.
As Lin Yue let go of his hand just as Ren Ji pulled his hand away, her expression turned serious. For the first time in her life, she couldn’t figure someone out. And that made her curious.
“Who is this young man in front of me, really?” Lin Yue thought to herself.
However, unbeknownst to her, what she had just thought to herself could be heard clearly by Ren Ji and the Dragon Emperor.
Ren Ji and Lin Yue’s gazes met again, but unfortunately, this time it sent a shiver down the young man’s spine. His heart was pounding. Even though he tried to ignore what he was feeling.
“Tsk, you’re such a weakling!” the Dragon Emperor sneered.
But just then, a massive explosion rang out from the distance. Everyone turned to look as black smoke billowed high from the direction of the Forbidden Mountain’s border. A terrifying, malevolent aura spread throughout the area.
Elder Mo’s expression changed instantly. “This…”
Lin Yue immediately gripped his sword.
Meanwhile, the Dragon Emperor’s voice rang out coldly in Ren Ji’s mind. “They’ve finally arrived—the Blood Demon Sect.”
“Who are they?” Ren Ji asked the Dragon Emperor.
“You’ll find out for yourself who the Blood Demon Sect is,” said the Dragon Emperor in a cold voice.
Ren Ji closed his eyes for a few seconds; a different aura emerged when his gaze met that of one of them.
Amidst the billowing black smoke, dozens of figures clad in blood-red robes slowly emerged from behind the trees. And their leader was staring directly at Ren Ji, as if he knew something that others did not.
