Chapter 4 Ren Ji Obtains the Sky Devouring Technique.
Ren Ji fell silent, staring blankly at the Black Cloud Sect disciple. In the past, he had been terrified whenever he faced the figure standing before him. This time, however, that fear had vanished without a trace.
“How did you manage to dodge my sword?” Zhao Feng asked, his eyes widening sharply as he glared at Ren Ji.
“I—” Ren Ji stopped himself, not wanting anyone to know of his true strength.
Zhao Feng’s eyes narrowed immediately. “What are you?”
Ren Ji swallowed hard; for some reason, a hint of doubt crept into his mind. Could he really defeat Zhao Feng, the strongest disciple of the Black Cloud Sect?
A smug laugh echoed, “I knew there was a hidden treasure here!”
Ren Ji’s expression changed instantly; this time, he wasn’t the weak servant who could be trampled on at will.
Before Zhao Feng could react, Ren Ji’s fist struck him squarely in the chest, sending Zhao Feng’s body flying several meters away, leaving all the disciples frozen in place.
Even Ren Ji himself was shocked as he looked at his hand. “I—I hit him? So hard he was sent flying that far?”
The other elite disciples immediately panicked. “How dare he!”
Two of them attacked simultaneously—one from the left and one from the right—their swords flashing coldly.
Ren Ji retreated quickly, but one of the swords managed to graze his arm. Red liquid dripped down, and as the blood flowed, the red dragon symbol on his chest suddenly glowed.
A terrifying aura erupted from his body. Ren Ji’s eyes turned red for a moment, and a sudden sense of hunger welled up inside him.
Ren Ji shook his head as the Dragon Emperor’s voice echoed faintly. “You hunger for energy and blood. Devour them!”
Ren Ji’s breath came in gasps; his body moved of its own accord, swiftly positioning itself in front of one of the elite disciples.
“W-What…?”
Ren Ji grabbed the man by the throat; as their eyes locked, warm energy immediately flowed into his body.
The disciple’s eyes widened in terror. “M-mercy…!”
In a matter of seconds, his body withered rapidly, his skin turning pale. His energy was completely drained. Then the corpse fell to the ground, dead and silent. Everyone froze in fear.
Even Ren Ji himself stared at his hands, breathing heavily, and muttered, “Did I… kill someone?”
Before this, Ren Ji hadn’t even dared to return the gaze, let alone retaliate against the insults and curses of the elite students. His stomach suddenly churned with nausea, but before he could think clearly.
“Monster!” The last elite student screamed in panic and tried to flee.
Zhao Feng roared in anger. His face was pale, but his eyes were filled with greed. “Shut up! That’s a demonic technique…”
His gaze burned as he stared at Ren Ji; greed overpowered his fear. If he could seize that power, his future would change.
Zhao Feng pulled a red pill from his pocket and swallowed it. His body temperature rose dramatically, and the ground beneath his feet cracked. “You really did find a treasure on this mountain!”
The last disciple exclaimed in shock; the pill could temporarily boost one’s strength. However, it damaged the user’s body.
Zhao Feng was clearly determined to kill Ren Ji right then and there; he smiled coldly and said, “Hand over your secret, and I’ll grant you a quick death.”
Ren Ji slowly raised his head, his red eyes still glowing faintly. A cold wind swirled around his body. For the first time in his life, he felt absolutely no fear toward Zhao Feng.
Ren Ji clenched his fists, and a dragon’s aura slowly emerged behind him like a gigantic shadow. He spoke softly, his gaze turning murderous. “If you want to take it, just try.”
“You!” Zhao Feng shouted, enraged by the challenge from that worthless servant.
However, before Zhao Feng could move, the sky suddenly darkened, and a fierce wind blew, putting both the last elite disciple and Ren Ji on high alert.
A massive storm raged over the forbidden mountain; heavy rain and fog reduced their visibility to almost nothing.
“Head south—there’s a cave,” the Dragon Emperor’s voice echoed in Ren Ji’s mind.
Ren Ji immediately headed south; he didn’t even feel the cold despite the storm lashing violently against his body.
After walking for an hour, Ren Ji stopped behind a rock hidden by tall bushes. It was as if his hand moved on its own to part the bushes.
Ren Ji’s eyes widened; he stepped forward cautiously and began to enter. A stifling odor filled his nostrils.
The deeper Ren Ji stepped inside, the more he was presented with a vast chamber and a stone resembling a throne for the king to sit upon.
“Sit there and calm your mind to deepen your mastery of the Sky-Devouring Technique,” the Dragon Emperor’s voice began to echo in his head.
Ren Ji immediately ascended the throne, then sat cross-legged. He brought his hands together in front of his chest.
He closed his eyes, and at that moment, the many texts he had memorized began to come to mind. However, as he focused more intently on studying the Sky Eater, something felt different. A powerful energy began to flow through his body.
Just as Ren Ji was concentrating, a sudden explosion shook the cave walls, sending dust and rock fragments raining down from the ceiling. He immediately turned toward the entrance.
Footsteps grew closer, accompanied by a familiar voice. “I know there’s something hidden in this place!”
Ren Ji’s expression immediately turned cold, and he muttered emphatically, “Zhao Feng.”
The core disciple he had encountered a few hours earlier had been making his life a living hell all this time. Shortly afterward, the light of torches appeared from the stone corridor.
Zhao Feng walked in with two other elite disciples; as soon as they saw Ren Ji sitting in front of the dragon throne, they were all taken aback. This was compounded by the fact that a very different aura began to fill the room.
