“What do you mean, lawyer Mandy?!” I asked with a trembling voice as I raised the document in my hands.
Lawyer Mandy, the woman who had been introduced to me by Stella, stood arrogantly on her seat with a sneer on her face.
“What? You wanted a divorce which I successfully helped you with, but who do you think you are to take away half of what CEO Leon Stone has?!” She let out mocking laughter, then stood up and walked towards me while I watched her like I had lost my mind.
“You’re just a peasant whom the Boss had helped and you think you can play smart? Well, since you wanted freedom, Ms Akira, then this is the prize for it…”
My legs turned soft as I fell, but it was like I couldn't feel it.
My eyes were dull, my body trembled and like a crazy person, I straightened the papers to read it all over again like this was all a dream.
“ALL PROPERTIES UNDER THE NAME OF MS AKIRA STONE ARE TRANSFERRED TO LEON STONE UPON DIVORCE.”
My trembling fingers flipped to the last page and my head went—Bang!!
My Signature lies there, bold and glaring!
My eyes rolled and my brain turned dizzy, but I managed to hold myself back. How could it be? How did all this happen?!
Clearly, everything had been going well, I had successfully divorced Leon with the help of the lawyer and Stella. The rest was supposed to be smooth, so… How?!
My blood turned cold, suddenly something attacked my brain and my mind flashed. I raised my head and glared at the lawyer with so much rage and hatred oozing out of me.
“You tricked me?! How dare you?!” I screamed, stood up and rushed towards her, but I was pushed down again.
My body hit the ground painfully, and my tears poured out. My eyes stared blankly at the ground, my mind empty and all I could think of was; Everything was gone!
But, would I allow this to happen? Never!
“You dare scratch me?! You brought it upon yourself! CEO Leon helped you but you betrayed him!” The Lawyer’s shrill voice sounded, making the anger in me boil even more.
I looked at her in confusion, “Why? When did you plan all this? How could you do this?! I trusted you!” I cried out through gritted teeth.
Lawyer Mandy looked at me, “I don't think I'm in the right position to answer that.” She said indifferently, then picked up her phone, “Let the security come in!”
Even after I was sent out by the security, my body was still frozen. My eyes stared ahead but I could see nothing other than darkness.
My father's properties, his company, everything had been taken from me. Everything!!
My blood boiled with rage and my stiff fingers clenched the papers in my hands, my bloodshot eyes burned with hatred and pain.
“Leon…”
I walked past the secretaries and assistants of Leon who greeted me. I moved sharply, my brain and eyes on a destination, which was Leon’s office.
“I won't take this! I won't accept this! I can't lose everything to that monster, I need to do something… You need to do something!” I kept on muttering words as I walked faster.
Immediately I got to the front of his office, I raised my hand to push open the door desperately, but—
“Won’t you praise me for a job well done, Leon?”
My hand which was stretched out paused in the air as I heard the familiar female voice—Stella.
A low chuckle followed, “I know you will do well, my love, which is why I was confident in letting you do this.”
My eyes flashed with confusion when I heard Leon’s words.
“Do what? What does Stella have to do—”
“Well, now I know why you didn't like her. She is just so dumb! Just some emotional talks and she is down. She trusted me easily which made me doubt her brain. So gullible!”
My brain froze when I heard Stella’s words, my eyes went blank and my body weakened.
What else couldn't I understand? True, she is right, I'm the dumb one.
I closed my eyes, my fist folded in a tight grip, and my body shook like a leaf.
A sigh was heard, then a cold voice followed, “Well… Akira had always been protected by her late father, so she’s gullible. I have been with her for long but she never knew the reason why she is still here is because she still has her usefulness. Want to give birth to my child? Dream on!”
My body which had long gone numb fell on the wall. I listened to their mocking laughter, I listened to them kiss, and then sounds of their intimacy.
I stood here like a fool. I should have burst in, I should have sworn and maybe killed them both. But as I stood there, I felt so weak that I could die.
My eyes became lifeless, my weak body stood, and without a word, I took a step then another, walking out of the company.
This was the second time I was walking out like this and both times, the same people had hurt me.
I got into my car without a word, my eyes were dry as I looked ahead.
I closed my eyes tightly, then memories flashed through my mind. The moment I got married to Leon, the humiliation of being his wife, the pain when I lay on the operating bed, the abuse, to the day I caught him cheating on me with Stella, and even down to Stella’s betrayal and the words I heard today.
I processed everything, snapped my dry eyes open, then curled the corner of my lips.
It started with a chuckle, then turned to full-blown laughter.
I laughed so hard, but my eyes appeared cold and cheerless. Then I suddenly opened my bag and brought out a card. As I looked at the card, my eyes regained that bit of hope.
“Hello.”
My hand tightened on my phone as I heard the cold but sexy voice which was both familiar and strange at the same time.
“Hello, Mr. Bryan. This is Akira Stone. Is the offer you gave me still available?” I asked coldly, though my heart was beating so fast.
Silence returned in the car, but I held on, my other hand pinched my lap, and my red eyes stared ahead with stubbornness, and finally, Bryan spoke.
“Meet me at Cloud Cafe in 2 hours!” he ordered, then hung up the call.
My heart which was hung high finally calmed down. I closed my eyes tight.
This time, I hope I have taken the right bet. I looked at the company which stood tall, then a single tear finally fell..
“Leon Stone, Stella and every one of you. The pain that, I Akira had experienced, I would return it a hundredfold!”
